Ive managed to acquire a decent amount of m-16 magazines somehow :ninja: , and Im going to be needing a gun to put them in when I get back to the states and out of the army. Right now Im looking at a Kel-Tec SU-16C, anybody know anything about these? Ive seen the A-B models go for about 400, but I much prefer the C. I havent seen it anywhere though for much less than its 800 dollar MSRP. If these arent all that and a bag of chips, anyone know of any other m-16 magazine using rifles/carbines that use a piston instead of a gas tube for less than a grand? I cant stand how dirty a freakin ar-15 gets after firing a few rounds through it, so Im not gonna get one of those unless it has a gas piston upper, and those are costly.

SIg has a new 5.56mm rifle coming out, looks like it will take M16 mags. But run about $1400. Military ammo is great for dirtying up a weapon with carbon, use an AR with some other ammo and it is a bit better.

If you buy a Kel-Tec, I hope it explodes in your face, because you would deserve it.

Just build an AR. Hell, you should have at least SOME semblance of how they go together. And really, it's not that hard at all to clean one. Besides, that Kel-Tec is going to get just as dirty anyway, and you'd be throwing money away on a plastic gun.

Wha? All mil-spec ARs are going to use a direct impingment system that uses a gas tube. What he wants is a gas piston, which is how, say, a FAL operates. Those uppers are not mil-spec, and they are way to goddamn much money for what you get.

Mil-spec 4 lyfe, yo.

Not until we have one to own a gun and procreate. This is final.

POF-USA offers a gas piston upper that looks promising. It appears to be based on the FALs gas system, but the cost is a bit steep.

You could buy one of the Vector V-93s (HK-93 clone) and find a HarK magazine adaptor to use the M4 mags.

Gas piston operation and takes standard M16 mags. Comes out about August this year.

Build your own. If you plan on staying in NY, you'll need a pre-ban lower anyways. I would just go with an AR-style rifle, since its probably the best value for you.

EDIT: That sig is ugly as crap. I'd just wait for the SCAR if I was in a no-ban state. You could also get an F2000, which NYers can apparently buy, but they are a bit pricey...

RbF: *Sig 556 image*

I'd rather have a folding stock, composite grip, 75 rd drum mag, AK clone.

You know, for tactical entry and whatnot.

I'm looking at getting pretty much what you are describing, except no stock. Pistol AK. Or maybe just grab an Arsenal SAM-7 AK. I haven't really shot a good AK since the 80's! We had some crappy throw down AK folders in Iraq for "loaners" though.

I do like Sig 556 too though :) Maybe...

Uh-oh, look what showed up today at work!

Dang, everything in this category is ridiculously expensive, except the "plastic" kel-tec. Oh I dont play by the NY rules either. That sig looks pretty flashy though. I wish they would just renew the law banning 30 rnd mags everywhere so I could just trade a couple dozen suddenly valuable mags for something nice.

paging TP... log onto msn havent talked in a while

about the SIG556... Its a smooth rig, id own it.. Sorry TP

on the topic of building an AR-15.... Im doing it, have assisted TP with starting a project and no I wont help anyone else! as when it comes to going to the post office, I suck...

So you have a gripton of M-16 mags, build something that you will be happy and familiar with... like an AR-15

oh on the topic of Kel-tek....... dont buy it unless your looking for a gun for a drop cache incase SHTF, and even then its a disposible POS that id rather use as a club

You get what you pay for. Unfortunately, gas piston / M16 mag eatting rifles are all expensive. But if you're only going to buy it once, then save up IMO. HK, Colt, FN, Robinson are all offering what you're asking for. POF and Leitner Wise makes whole GP guns or will offer a conversion to gas piston. Here's some info....

http://www.pof-usa.com/POF-USA%20PRODUCTS.htm

http://www.sigarms.com/Products/ShowCatalogProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=35&productid=114 As for the SIG -- they offer a SWAT model that has a free floating railed handguard. They may also be offering a different shoulder stock and grip.

One of these brands will be mine. I'm waiting to see how they all stack up. Would like to see the Colt and the Sig side by side for comparo. But I'm leaning towards the Colt when its comes to civilian market. The FN SCAR would ultimately be my first choice but thats a long shot for civil sales.

Oh -- BTW --- I had one of those Kel Tec SU16 's . Had the first model they released. Traded it in for an 870 Police Magnum Tactical. Less range, but it sure would drive the point home over the girly SU16 in the badass catagory - :D

I have enough AR's anyway. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y24/HOMELANDEFENDER/AR.jpg
