ALL!

Yes its OFFICIAL! We will be going to play paintball with Billy at Jungle Island south of Corona CA on SEPT 17th this year! We will be using all of Jungle Islands vehicles with working paintball guns during the game and the final battle promises to be unbelievable!

Normally California fields are bring your own paint but that doesn't work out for making money for a charity. We are still trying to figure out if we should offer a case with registration or something different. This is still up in the air so your comments are welcome.

We are also going to invite other big name celebrities since its so close to Hollywood. Don't know for sure yet but we have some fun people on the invite list.

We are in the middle of updating the website and this announcement leaked out a little too early so please hang with us while we get up to speed. Please do all the coordinating and post hotel info etc here.

How far is Corona from the paintball park? Will everyone be staying there?

PirateGent

Well if I can make the time (and set aside the money) the wife and I hope to be there.

Man, and I thought a 12 hour drive to Joliet was long. :D

Anyone know the best way to fly one's gear out there? I know my brother flew to Florida once and checked all his gear and depressuried his tanks but that was pre-9/11.

The actual city of Corona is 10-15 minutes North of Jungle Island. Jungle Island sits on the border of unicorporated Corona and Lake Elsinore. Here are the Google Earth co-ordinates for ya. 33 43'45.45" N 117 24'19.44"W.

Tom, I wouldn't worry about the BYOP issue. Jungle Island has been hosting FPO scenarios there for several years.

Pirate Gent, If you fly your paintball guns out theyhave to be in a locked case and declared. TSA has to be able to open the case. Any tanks that go on the plane have to have their regulator removed for visual inspection of the tank. I would suggest UPS or FedEx.

I have heard the "UPS/FedEx" idea offered before. Not sure how I feel about it. I know back in 2004 when the jerseys were sent out the arrived at my house 5 hours AFTER I left for Joliet (12 drive) - luckly the wife was home (with our 3 month old) and was able to re-ship with guarnteed Saturday delivery for the Game on Sunday!!

I would hate for there to be a problem with UPS/FEDEX and arrival/ship times causing me to miss them and having to resort to rentals.

Guess my best bet is to make friends with TSA and make sure all my i's are dotted and my t's crossed. :)

(Cause I know I AIN'T going to drive coast to coast!)

Looks like I'm gonna give a couple of my buddies a call to see if they are game for this.
(It also helps knowing someone who works for fedex)
Maybe PMI, crossfire or guerilla air could do a tank rental for the event.

I fly with my paintball gear at least twice a year…
Just put the guns and all in checked baggage, and have your regulator so that you can unscrew it. You have to take the tank as a carry on item, and the TSA folks will check it at the metal detectors. It helps if you tell them what you have FIRST, instead of letting them see a bomb shaped tank on the x-ray. As poorly informed as TSA people are, all of the ones I have encountered know what to do with paintball stuff.

And just to be safe, I print this out and have it on top of everything when an inspector would open my checked bags…

I was wondering, as much as this seems like a huge AO party… Who else will show up, it’s not an AO exclusive thing is it?

Any other background would be helpful. I’m sure others who haven’t been around a while would also appreciate the info.

As much as I respect the man himself - Tom has only won one out of three games..... so let's not talk about who kicked who's behind.

(of course I can say in 2004 fighting from the river bed outside of the F-Troop fort that was Shatner's HQ was a hairy fight. I turned to my friend and asked the time. Figured it had to be an hour or two - because the fight was tough. We weren't gaining any ground and paint came from everywhere. My friend said " the game as only been going for 15 mintues" - I knew it was going to be a LONG DAY after that) :)

That brings up a good point and perhaps a good suggestion. Maybe the ability for players to pre-order extra jerseys? After the game is over the extra jerseys can be picked up.

In VERY LIMITED quanities (besides I already have the Cavlary/Raiders shirt and the Star Trek one) They don't have the pinstripe suits we wore because I think they only made them for those who ordered. You know what - I like that idea. If they (Celebrity Paintball) doesn't offer Jerseys for the game - we should design our own (in two different colors of course)

I like the sound of that!

And to quote RoboCop "I'd buy that for a dollar" (okay I'll actually pay more than a dollar for a cool themed jersey but you know what I mean)

So what does everything think the Theme will be/should be/could be?

I had a thoughts of British Navy vs Pirates - think the props would be buried treasure, skeletons, cannons and stuff.

But I don't think that will work with what Jungle Island has to offer (according to reports ALL their vehicles will be in play!!)

Maybe a "Mad Max" scenario or WWII theme (I hope not - so over done - we need this game to be special!)

thoughts?

Guys,

Its going to be a World War II theme as you can imagine. We are trying to get the rights to use certain names for the event and thats not happening fast. We are going to incorporate several big generals into this so if you know your history think which generals duked it out.

We will most likely do t-shirts again this year since everyone seemed to like what you got for the price.

We announced a little early and things are not coming together as fast as we wanted so please stand by while we work it ou. IT IS HAPPENING though so keep that in mind.

Tho correct that was not the task put forth.... Here is the statement: "We are going to incorporate several big generals into this so if you know your history think which generals duked it out."
Rommel "duked it out" with Monty (montgomery) in Northern Africa. In fact Rommel got his butt handed to him at the battle of el-Alamein.
Gerd von Rundstedt was the German Supreme Commander in Western Europe at the time of the Allied invasion and thereafter, making him a better choice for Pattons counterpart.

Thanks for the update... WWII hmmm might be too warm out for me to break out my Russian Great Coats. :D

T-shirts are fine but I thought the crowd we had at CPX in 2004 really wanted Jerseys again. Will Jerseys still be availble? (with hopefully a quicker shipping time - had to have the wife Saturday deliver it to get it in time!)

I haven't played PB in about 2yrs (life + family + about to have a newborn), but I might have to make an exception for this since I'm in AZ and it wouldn't be too bad to drive up.

The wife (2003 vet) and I (2003, 2004 vet) are hoping to make it as well as my friend Danny (2003, 2004 vet) and his wife (2003 vet).

(you may remember some of our faces from the honor guard in 2003 with the cavalry hats and guideons - in 2004 my friend Danny and I came with the Tommy Gun Tippmanns)

Need to do some more logisitics to make it happen.

Cable, thank you.

I understand the apprehension. Sapper is a former marine and a member of the paintball team OCMI. if anyone is still apprehensive you may send your gear to me and I will safeguard it. I will only accept UPS or FedEx insured. You will have to provide identification to claim your gear. There will be a limit to the number of parcels I can hold and transport. I don't know what that limit is yet. If anyone is apprehensive about my credentials you may contact Jungle Island where the game will be held. You may also peruse my team's site (http://www.caltrop-guerrillas.com) or another site I started and help run, http://www.paintball4all.com. PM me for more info. You may also email me at ocpickle *@*verizon.net. The goal for me is to make this a great game and support my field.

With respect,

Pickle

I've played a bit of woodsball here and there but I've never been to a scenario day/weekend. I've been wanting to get into scenario play for a while now but it's just too damned expensive... the charity/possibly meeting William Shatner angle has helped me rationalize the expense :)

Along with rudz questions what do you guys think I can expect as an entry fee? How long are the games? Is there a "respawn" rule if you're eliminated? This is just a 1 day thing, right? No camping? Do you carry EVERYTHING onto the field that you might need? I was at JI a couple of weeks ago, the day before the last Big Game, and there were doods out there in ghillie suits and carrying very large backpacks onto the field... Is that what a scenario noob should shoot for, preparation wise?

BTW, Pickle I LOVE that Crossfire field! We had 40 players on a side and it was like the opening D-Day scene on Saving Private Ryan... we had 13 people crowded behind some of the plywood Xs at the beginning of the game. Freaking Awesome! Trenches is pretty cool too with all that weed growth from the rains. Even though I'm a staunch woodsballer, JI is a damn good commercial field.

Rudz had questions in there  :D

Entry fee will be a bit higher than normal scenarios due to the charity aspect. The game will be a one dayer. There will be respawns there but the exact type has yet to be determined. Camping hasn't been announced yet. You might see a ghillie suit or two out there. Gunny has put a lot of work and money into the field. It is really looking nice. Hopefully you will make it to the next big game.

I'm so there! I passed it around to my paintball buddies that this was going down and have at least 2 other for-sures and 2 more maybe's.

From my experiences, I would guess that the entry fee will be less than $100, probaly $40-$60.

Cases of paint at the field look to look start at $60 for an un-named brand.

I was very impressed with the jersey's that I saw on the SPLATT video for the Star Trek themed game and would hope that this event does something similar. I'd pay top dollar for a cool collectable scenario jersey.

Sounds like it's going to be the british versus the germans. How cool would it be showing up in a german footsoldier uniform or british paratrooper duds! You could probably approximate the british outfit from a visit to an army-navy surplus store. The german uniform might be a lot harder to come up with, but oh-so worthy! Epaulets, Waffen-SS pins, jack-boots, monocle, a riding crop, and a bad german accent!

I'm also so torn on which marker to bring. My tried-n-true 1992 classic Automag or my brand-spankin-new XMOD'd Emag.

Oh delicious decisions!

Tina
05-18-2006, 07:33 AM
Ummm...if I remember correctly, at the last scenario game the entry fee was $75 and that included the long sleeved t-shirt. You were able to purchase the official game jersey for a bit extra. Not sure the price, as I just used the t-shirt.

PirateGent
05-18-2006, 03:17 PM
In years past there has been "team Jerseys" (or in the case of 2004 - jerseys/t-shirts) that EVERYONE had to wear. That was your "arm band".

I have all three - the Federation Shirt (even though I wasn't there to play), US Cavalry (and bandit) and a blue gangster Jersey. All very cool!

Yes the price is usually a bit higher for the Shatner game but then again it is for charity! (so you can claim your day of paintball on your taxes!!!)

Its great that Shatnerball 2006 is going to happen. I flew out to participate in 2003 (New Milford, PA) and 2004 (Joiliet, IL) all the way from California and had a great time.

I don't know how the advertising is going about, but it would be great if AGD push some ads in the PB mags or Bill plug it at the conventions and interviews. With the event being so close to "Hollywood" AGD or whoever is in charge of organizing should truly make it a "Celebrity Paintball" scenario game. So for the rest of us, I guess we should also put the word out on the street about Tom and Bill bringing Shatnerball 4/Celebrity Paintball to SoCal. Mo' people = Mo' fun = Mo' Money for Charity

Looking forward to mixing it up again. :shooting:

Guys,

Great to see that everyone is so excited!! Yes Bill is going to play Montgomery and I am the back up plan to play Rommel unless we get other celebs.

We are struggling trying to get the price of paint down for this event by signing on a big sponsor. This is a bit complicated and we are in negotiations now. We are well aware that CA is all bring your own paint and you can buy it cheap but this is a charity event and the paint money is what goes to the kids.

Bill is in Europe right now but he will send out the letters personally to the other celebs when he gets back. The letters are ready to go and I PROMISE you if we get them everyone will go nuts, heck I will go nuts!! Just so you know they are not top name people but from shows you love for their antics. Not being top flight there is a much better chance of signing them up.

When the right time comes I will (god voice) "FLEX THE POWER OF AO" and have you guys go flood their fan sites with requests to participate. That should lock them in....

When I used to play at War Zone (right down the 15 from JI and a loooonnnnng time ago with PMI 10-shot pump guns no less) there were a few guys who had some vintage aircraft (I think two P-51 Mustangs and an ME-109) that would occasionally buzz the field. Not real low, probably about 1000-2000 feet. It was the best! Even at that alt they were VERY LOUD! As I remember they flew out of Chino. Anyway, a cool addition to the day would be a flyover by these guys... if they're still around. I mean, if they're up in the air anyway why not come by? There's also a vintage B-17 I've seen fly out of Long Beach but that's all I know about them. If any of these guys/planes could make an appearance that just might augment the inflow a bit. Just an idea.

BTW, my wife and I wouldn't mind being German, too. This whole set-up made her think of Fightclub and the "I'd fight William Shatner," scene. Are players assigned sides? Would groups be split up when sides are assigned?

That would be really cool with the fly bys! In 2004 Billy boy and company arrived in Model T cars (hey it was gangster themed!)

Normally you would pick a side when you prereg. If things get unbalanced they usually say so and after that point you get assigned. So when they open the gates ... SIGN UP EARLY!

They had a big air show at Chino last weekend with tons of WWII aircraft. I remember playing at SC during last year and you would have thought it was Pearl Harbor all over again there were so many. There must have been over 50 WWII aircraft ranging from Japan, British, German, and Allied.

Warzone? Played my first game there. I miss it.

There is a vintage aircraft club that flies out of Chino. I do know that some of them hire out for flights in them. That is definitely an idea to consider.

Is it really that hot in September? I went to LA end of June last year and it was really mild...in the 70's. Whereas back at home in Pa it was in the 90s! :ninja:

What do Californians call "hot"? Last weekend (Memeorial Day) at the MOUT game in Florida it hit 107 degrees. If you are not acclimated to the enviroment you are playing in, you are at risk of heat related injury. Several folks went down from the temperature and lack of hydration

Scenario ballers normally call this a sprint game, which means you will be hitting the field for presumably longer times and shorter breaks to cram in as much paintball as you can in the time allotted. Hydration is of the highest priority, you must start hydrating your body five days prior to game on with water, and then slamming water, gatorade and pediolite through the event.

Nothing sucks more than having an IV hanging from your arm as your friends tell you to feel better then they go off to play. Invest in a Camelback style hydration pack. You can get them on Ebay at a good price and it really can save your butt.

I was the Ultimate Judge for the 2004 Celebrity Paintball event in Joliet, and my day was spent more taking care of the folks who kept dropping from the heat and dehydration than game related duties.

Corona and LA are in two different areas for temperature. It is usually 10+ degrees warmer in Corona then it is in LA.

Yep, it is hotter than 'LA'.
I reside about 60 miles due west of the field and it typically is about 20 degrees hotter there than where I am.

Minimum age for renting cars is usually 25. However, there is a company or two that will rent to 21 and up. Teens isn't going to happen though. IF you are flying in I am sure something can be worked out to get you to the field and back.

I went to a AO-Day down in Dalton GA (about a 7 hour trip from me) when I was 17 but I had my own car and license at that point plus I went with a friend. I had a great time at it but was younger compared to most of people out there, still had an awesome time meeting people. It is possible but make sure your dad will enjoy it too, haha you wouldnt just want to drag him around.

if you dont want to go that way, just look out for people like you. kinda alone, minding their own business. go over and talk to them. you can meet some very nice cool people as long as you are also curteous and friendly. this is how i meet some of my paintball buddies.

The closest store is CC Paintball in Corona. They have the best selection and customer service in the area IMHO.

CC Paintball (http://www.ccpaintball.net/) has 2 locations. Their second shop is in Norco near SC Village. Corona is off the 91 FWY. CC Paintball is great. I know theres 3 other places but I mainly goto CC in Norco cuz it down the street. Everyone there and at Corona are friendly and welcome anyone.

Theres also Ace Paintball which is across the street from CC Norco. Tripple Tap Paintball & airsoft is one exit after CC Corona. I think there another store, not sure whats its call but it near CC Corona too. They sell more of the main stream stuff, but I think if you really need something fixed I would goto Corona. I rarely goto CC Corona or anyother stores.

They don't carry Mags or mag parts. So if think you're gonna break something, bring spares.

Hmmm if Emax is talking about Gramps & Grizzly second in Norco? They sold the shop to CC I think.

My uncle wanted to rent a gun for his wife from CC but CC stopped cuz something about insurance didnt cover it anymore.

Maybe I'll go an get my bro to go. We never played at Jungle before. I take it that Shatnerball is welcome to anyone and markers? If theres flyer done I would be happy to print it out and ask CC to put it up. I have to go there right now anyways.

Don't forget about the paintball shops south of there, I seem to remember visiting No Limit paintball off of jefferson and winchester road in temecula, and Bryson Paintball which has a location off of rancho california rd, also in temecula. Welcome HawaiianHorseBabe -

I was at the 2003 and the 2004 Shatner games. The format is usually a 6/7/8 hour game (I forget when we started and stopped).

Basically they blow the whistle in the morning and you play all day long. If you get tagged you could either be healed by a medic or you walk off the field and await the next reinsertation (usually done every 15 or 30 minutes) so you don't have to worry about wasting a day after getting tagged 10 minutes into the game.

Not much info is coming out about this one. I would love to make it (since I was at the last two - missed the first one due to eye surgery) but not much is being said outside of where and when. I would love to pre-reg but that's not available yet. My gut is telling me one of two things will happen. Either it will be last minute and no real promotion for the game outside of word of mouth or (and this is my hope) they'll simply reschedual for same weekend next year and promote the heck out of it.

Lack of pre-promotion was one of the major complaints I heard about for the 2003 game.

Hi Pirate Gent!

I've seen your posts around WS.com, and have seen pics of you and Tina and the gang having Splaat fun! I missed out on 2004 because I was such a newbie and I was semi ready for 2005.. but it got cancelled. :( I hope they do it this year! I already went ahead and bought a marker and will be donating something to the auction. :)

I understand about the fine dance on the publicity/marketing... I'm sure Bill has to keep himself available for his acting work and promotion.. and what a drag it would be to get a load of folks out to sweat in the 100degF weather only to have him not participate! :(

Hope it all goes!!

For those of you looking for a get together the day prior to Shatnerball....

There will be a big game held at Jungle that day. Gunny called me up after he got the blessing from TK and asked me to run another big game for him. The numbers will be significantly bigger than past big games but hey, we're family :D

As soon as I have the flier in hand with the info I will post it here.

3. I am glad your dream has come true
4. At this point due to the numbers anticipated Gunny has decided that there will not be enough room to camp.

Carry on!

Don't know if this link will work but I found the historical data on the temperature for the riverside area.

Online registration will close about a week before the event. We have to fly out to CA and take care of things at the field so I can't take money during that time.

Like was mentioned in a thread on AO and here, there will be a big game the day before Shatnerball. Gunny called me and asked for a big game that day. Knowing how large of a turnout is possible I hesitated a bit but still said yes. There were already players looking for a venue to play at on Sat, the day before the game. Below are the rules and itinerary.

Jungle Island Big Game Rules

All normal field rules apply. No overshooting, no cheating…you get the idea.
Gun hits COUNT.
Max chrono is 280 FPS
Referee decisions are FINAL. If you don’t like the decision you may politely discuss it with me.
Each side will have one main flag station point. There will be additional flag stations that are capturable. In order to capture the flag station, the flag on the pole and pulley needs to be moved to reflect the color of your team. For example, if you play for the red team and you capture a flag station with a blue flag then you need to pull on the rope to change the flag to your color. Once this is complete your team may re-insert at this flag station.
Any player eliminated within a 20 foot radius of the flag station needs to re-insert at an alternate flag station. If no flag station is available then that player needs to wait until the flag station is overrun and the game is restarted, or another flag station is opened.
Medics will be in play on a limited basis. A medic can heal a body wound and nothing else. Medics can not heal head shots or gun hits. In order for a medic to heal a player first they must clean the hit off the player and then they must use a “bandage” provided by Pickle.
ANYONE caught cheating will be warned once. Any player caught cheating twice will be removed from the field. Notice I didn’t say “asked to leave” . Cheating includes wiping, playing on with an obvious hit and all the normal crap cheaters pull.
Players with excessive FPS may be asked to leave on a case by case basis to be determined by Pickle.

Big Game Itinerary

0700 - Park gates open
0800 - See old friends
0813 - Get gear ready
0830 - Go to staging area for orientation
0900 - Game on
Noonish – Lunch. ½ hour long or so
1400 - Break for gun maintenance
1445 - Break for gun maintenance again (for Cocker owners)
1500 - Maybe change things up a bit by playing different formats. i.e. attack and defend on the hill or center flag or even old school capture the flag.
1600 - Stand down
1630 - Swap stories, email addresses and phone numbers.
1700 - Drive home to wife angry you played paintball….AGAIN!
1900 - Defy wife’s warnings and go to paintball4all.com

I would like to give a big thanks to Skeletor for the poster. He has been doing a great job for me on these and I really appreciate it. We are keeping with the WWII theme this game because Shatnerball is a WWII themed game. Due to the popularity of the grenades last game we both decided this poster would be a good choice.

this was posted on paintball4all

any confirmations that these rumors are true?

So, I heard some disturbing rumors today, and I was hoping the good folks who are in the know here can dispel them.

I'm hearing that there might not be a game. That MXS may not show, that Shatner may not show... and even a rumor that should the game not happen, we will not be receiving refunds (ala TAW).

Please, someone check up on the game and make sure it's still on. MXS usually hypes the hell out of their games... especially a Shatner game for charity. What's going on?

(I do not take responsibility for these rumors, I only mean to dispel them, not disperse them)
