I have a few old markers, specifically a 94-95ish Minimag and a 95-96ish Cocker. Niether of them fire to well right now, probley from sitting in a box for 8+ years.

My questions are: Is it worth it to fix either of these to playable condition? Can the minimag be converted to run on the newer air systems?

Sorry for my newbishness I have been out of paintball for a whille and was just reintroduced using a *gasp* rental marker.

Any help is vastly appreciated.

Howdy,
Welcome back to paintball!

I'm not much of a WGP guy, but I can tell you that a minimag is still an awesome gun... that is with some up grades.

First you will need a parts kit, to replace those old dry o-rings

Your next stop should be the level 10 anti-chop bolt. all but eliminates chops. BEST up grade for all mags.

Your minimag valve is ready to go with the N2 aka compressed air systems, no modifications needed, works better and faster than co2

If you are willing to drop some more money in search of a faster gun look here... The X-Valve

If you get the x-valve... you may want to have a lighter trigger pull weight so check out the ULT. Not recommended for the minimag valve, but it can be done.

Then to really take advantage of the light trigger pull check out the new frames that have double triggers...

And finally if you want a cool new body check out the ULE bodies (these have autococker barrel threading so you can get all sorts of cool modern barrels for it)...

Well that is just the beginning of what you can do with your mini mag!
At one point long ago my gun was a classic mag...

Hehe, and then you can put your minimag back together with all the parts you upgraded. :p

Thats what you *need* to get it back up and running. :) Yes once it's running you can use any newer air system.

The LVL X kit Comes stock on the X valve, and the Xvalve doesn't make your gun faster than a regular 68 classic valve.

I should have mentioned that the x-valve comes with a lvl 10, I just figured he would have seen that. Ooops.

As far as the X-valve making my gun faster… I beg to differ. With the stock on/off in the X-valve, the R/T action alone assists me in increasing my ROF well into the low teens. Whereas, I cannot even begin to fire my classic valve faster than 8 BPS. In all honesty I dislike the ULT because it removed the RT action from my valve, and thus my X-valve did not shoot any faster than the classic for me. But I do know of others who can make an ULT’ed mag shoot into the teens as well.
Then strictly for outlaw play, which is what I mostly do, an adjustable regulator such as a Maxflo running an output in excess of 1000psi, causes the rapid fire in the x-valve. This mechanically fires the gun in excess of 20 bps. Now no one can tell me that an X-valve is no faster than a classic valve by any means, because of my own experience with them.
I apologize for coming off as being harsh, but I’m sorry the X-valve IS faster.

gezak -

You should be able to get the cocker working with the same level of attention: new o-rings, new springs, a little bit of lube. What was top-of-the-line 12 years ago is now mid-range. But I'm guessing you're no longer dreaming of the NPPL.

Welcome back.

with the cocker, new o-rings, maybe springs, and a re-time and it should be slinging paint just fine. You might want to add a regulator depending on what else it has.

I'm sorry to contradict, but I'm not going to believe that you can pull a mech mag as fast as I can walk an electro(12 bps) until I see a video. turning my emag on mech, without rapid-firing, I can only shoot about 8 bps, while fanning, which is wildly inaccurate. I'd say in-game If I play on mech mode, I'd be shooting around 6 bps. I do agree though, that the reactive trigger makes it MUCH easier to shoot, just not that much easier...

Also gezak, If you are planning on upgrading your minimag eventually to a complete ule mag, it will be several hundred dollars cheaper to just buy it at once, instead of upgrading over time. I advise talking to Tunaman, he's always been great to me.

Well considering ive played 1 day in the last 8 years or so I'll probley stick with basics to get the minimag working: o rings and figure out whats wrong with the trigger.

Depending on how much I get back innto this + how much my wife will allow I may go into making it a nice marker again. Either way thanks all for the good info on both, I think i'll let the cocker sit and rot just cause it angered me greatly the last time I used it. :)

There is no point in making them nice markers again...they are already nice.

All the upgrade info you were given, file 13 it all. Buy a rebuild kit for $20 for the mini mag and go shoot. If you find yourself wanting to "upgrade" then browse the B/S/T threads and find one you like for MUCH cheaper than you can buy the sum of parts. The used marker market is MURDER on the actual value/money put in. There is no comparison. Let someone else take the loss.

Mags and Cockers never die, they just need new bits from time to time. I'd take a Classic Mag on the field that'd been sitting for over 10 years as soon as I'd grab any of my other guns. Granted, the sitting might have left some things in disrepair, but hey, that's what parts kits are for, right?

Thankfully Z-man is back...
watch and learn my good man
http://www.zakvetter.com/paintball_videos/z-man_max_rof.mov

That is with out bounce.

But to be quite honest... I don't play pro, I don't play speedball/airball, and I don’t do the whole Agg thing. I play to have fun and I expect my mag to rapid fire, because it can. Screw NPPL and PSP and what not. When I play I usually use 1 hopper for the whole day... I don’t shoot much because I make my shots count. But on rare occasion when I am severely outgunned, my mag shows its teeth and I can lay down some serious paint.

I really don’t want to get into it, so I will end it right now… Is the x-valve not THE fastest recharging valve in paintball? YES.

I don’t want a flame war, I don’t want to get mad… I am here to have fun. The x-valve is fundamentally faster in action than anything, including the classic valve.

The mag may not be dead yet but its looking pretty zombified, I doesnt fire at all right now but I'm pretty sure if I pull the grip apart I'll find some rusted out pieces as it had a few baths in the river at the field i played at..... also I'm a bad owner I dont think I cleaned it after the last time I used it. Who knew that paint could solitify to form a stonger bonding substance than superglue? :)

The cocker on the other hand doesnt look to bad and it fires, just not at any volocity that measures on the chrono.

This weekend I'll rip it apart and see what I can do with it, if nothing else it'll be a fun restoration project, I'll call it Zombiemag and attach some brains or something to it :headbang:
