View Full Version : Why didn't I think of that moment..

I was cruising the Deep Blue section, as some of the arguments are truly worth reading. And when I was on page 11/12 or so, I decided to see if some of the old links even worked. I clicked, and to my suprise there was a valid link, on this page
http://automags.org/forums/showthread.php?t=35360

Now, with all of the people saying they don't like big drops because in reality when you shoulder the marker it gives you MORE profile, I always wanted to think of a way to shove the tank forward and yet not have this profile issue..With the thick tanks and such, I just figured "A duckbill would be the easiest..."..Well, when I saw this picture my brain couldn't find any true, negative aspects to this setup. For anyone who actually has a valid point of view on dropforwards and the like, could you tell my why THIS setup wouldn't be comfortable, or just, "work" in general?

EDIT - completely refering to the usage of a stock and drop...

That looks like it would be very comfotable. I like resting my tank on the bend of my elbow, and hold it with my left hand, but I belive that setup would work very well. I cant belive I havnt ever seen anyone do that before.

It still would give you a higher profile in some situations like the snake where your tank could almost resting the ground. On top of that, it addes weight. I do see the advantages though. My biggest problem would be gettin use to it.

It would work but I think it would just feel weird.

a snake is a little taller than 1 foot.

but yea, it'd 'work' perfect, and would probably be just as comfortable as using the tank as a butt.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea but more of an acquired taste.

That's the beauty of paintball. Everyone can find what feels good for them without too much difficulty. That's why I love mags...

Is this a challenge? Does it really matter? To each his own.

As a pump player who uses a stock my only suggestion is try rolling the marker with that stock on it.

It is a good idea, but the round end of a tank does have an advantage whenever your marker is an angle of any sort. And it wouldn't work for the way I use a stock. I keep it on the outside of my arm to help keep my elbow in and still have support.

Although, Brad (Formerly of PBMaxx) does make a stock butt that would work...

I was saying a "valid point" because oh-so-often you ask people about drops, and without reason they say "they are bad"...And then you ask why, and they say "um, well...I just don't like them..." without any true argument...I'd like the people with arguments to reply in this thread..
It wasn't a spiteful challenge, more like "are there any factors that I had missed, and is this a bad setup and why?"
Or did I misunderstand your completely :tard:

Looks fine, the only issue "I" would see is the overall height of the marker is dramatically increased ( as with a drop) which in my case/IMO , would effect belly slides and movement in the snake and other very low profile props. I'd be digging the tank in all over the place. :)

For the sake of argument, why the hell not. I would never use that setup; a standard duckbill or any ASA on the bottom of the gripframe would work way better. The tank would be in almost the same place as the stock, so you don't need the stock. Same point to brace it on your shoulder, lower profile, less weight. Why bother with the stock? It's not that it wouldn't work, just that it wouldn't work any better.

The drop puts the center of gravity between the trigger frame and front grip which makes it more comfortable to hold when you are shooting. Having the tank simply on a duckbill makes the marker more rear heavy which does effect kick and makes it feel diffrent. I like the drop becuse it is much more comfortable to me. The size of the drop depends on the trigger frame and gun however. Like I said I prefer to have the majority of the weight of the gun between both my hands and not behind both my hands.

not that im against drops or anything, but I would think that kind of setup would throw off the front/back weight distribution. For me, the tank's weight helps counteract the weight of the hopper and the marker in general and leans the marker against my body, if you will. By moving the tank up there, a lot of weight would be shifted toward the front of the marker, putting more stress on your leading arm and tipping the marker forward. I personally prefer a slightly back-heavy setup because it's easier to switch and such, but this might again only be a preference thing.

I too prefer no drop. I like a more back-heavy marker, maybe because I'm used to my emag that where the center of gravity was around the front of the tank(cause of a qloader). I just use a 45/45 tank with a rail and have a miniscule setup anyways.
