Hooray I put together the Gen1 of my pretty pretty new zombie gun!

parts list so far...
Tom Sawyer custom run lower, I think we had 26 or so of these made... so it gets that special place in my heart next to my SFL Emag.
Lewis Machine and Tool A4 upper, 16 inch crome lined 1:7 twist barrel
Troy Industries Flip up rear iron sight
The stock is a temp until I decide what one I like better from list below...

basicly this is the first config of this beast, planned mods will include:
-Troy Industries gasblock/flip up front iron sight to match the rear
-Optics, thinkin EoTech currently
-Extended charging handle lever... small one has always bugged me
-Rail system, thinkin Daniel Defence 12 inch mid gas
-new stock, thinking SOPMOD or Vltor
anyhow the pics...

And you DIDN'T have the selector read "Torpedo" , "Missiles" and "Docked"?

Shame!

EOTech and SOPMOD stock. Ergo pistol grip would be nice addition also.

When it grows up can it fire bigger bullets? LOL

So what was the price tag thus far on this build?

Nice build. I had a rail system on mine, then dumped it for some DPMS glacier guards, as I really thought the rail got in my way. Only thing I had on there was a light, anyways, and there are other ways to mount those.

As for the optic, that really depends on what you shoot. I was going to go with an EOtech also, but right now I'm actually leaning towards an ACOG with a docter or similar sight mounted on it, to handle distance AND close in.

That thing more than semi-auto, ed?

edweird

Nope, just semi... didnt want to drop the coin for select fire insanity, after all I have 2 local friends who already have that option whenever I want to do a betamag dump for fun.

Recon: im trying to block out the cost... just want a great shooter at the end of it and not to go broke in the process.

Next?

im debating a Marlin 44 mag lever gun, or something like a Savage 308 for some reachout touchie... who knows maybe ill get frisky and get that new .416 Barrett and still be supersonic @ 1.3 miles down range

Ed, if you want a REAL zombie gun, you need to get your hands on a Jackhammer.

10-round select-fire 12-guage shotgun.

Full auto double ought? Hell yeah!

At least, on a more realistic level, a Benelli M4 Super 90.

Nothing says zombie lovin' like multiple shotgun blasts.

Zombie gun? Is that what they are calling illegal aliens in AZ these days?

Ed, if you want a REAL zombie gun, you need to get your hands on a Jackhammer.

Pancor Jackhammer! yeah id dig one of them... but id settle for a Saiga-12 honestly.

TargetPractice just informed me that USN is not US Navy....

In that case, the selector should be "SLICE" and "DICE"

yeah army you should come check out the USN... Brad, TP, your deranged daughter and I are just a few of the magmonkeys who have mingled over.

What do you think of that Tom Sawyer lower?

edweird
06-30-2006, 03:31 PM
Ill let ya know after I put some rounds down range... first impression of the craftmanship is top notch, the engraving is insanly crisp and the lower parts I had him install are the DPMS parts I had ordered. Im convinced its a quality lower and am looking forward to shooting it.

my only, and I mean ONLY complaint is I dont feel the anno shop he sends his lowers off to is the best, and being paintball snobs I think we know a good anno when we see it.

regardless im very happy with it so far, Ill post something after my inital break in

That's a nice looking AR, Ed. How's the fit between the upper and lower?

How's the fit between the upper and lower?

pretty much deadon as far as I can tell prior to shooting it. the rear takedown pin is in that sweet spot of needing ever so slight punching to get removed but after my breakin regiment this weekend it should be right where it needs to be. Lewis Machine and Tool makes on hell of an upper imho.

I went down to Scottsdale Gun Club today with a chapter brother Mobius and put some rounds downrange with our spanky new AR-15's... Also I managed to meet one of our newest members, Nescoupe... who I come to find out lives damn near a stones throw from me.
sorry not much of a range report, but here it goes...

showed up @ 1015ish and tried to find moe, figured he was already putting rnds downrange so inquired at the range desk. The range officer on staff knew immediatly who I was talking about said "his group" was on the far left bay, and he could get me in with them. Splendid! So I picked up a couple boxes of Federal 55gr target elcheapo ammo, I figure that for setting my irons that would do nicely. Also I scored some 25m zeroing targets at the desk they would make the process as painless as possible.

first group of five was 4 MOA low, a couple clicks of the front sight and I was making that simulated 300m zombie tremble in terror. Hands down it was the least painfull time I ever had initally zeroing a M-16/AR-15.

My rifle preformed flawlessly, and I couldnt be happier. So on the way out I picked up some Hornady 75gr "practice" ammo and treated my USN-15 to some small upgrades [Fobus stock saddle and Badger ord tac charging handle latch].

sorry no pics this time, thought moe posted he was shooting at 12 and when I found out it was 10 I was far from ready and forgot my digital camera. Regardless it was good times with good friends, made some new friends and put some rounds downrange to boot.

excellent day imho
Ed
