I was talking to a machinist earlier today and he seemed to think that paintball gun frames were cast, not milled. Is this true?

Depends on the frame, some are cast but not all...

Some are cast, most are machined.

Indeed.

Any you find around here will be machined from billet, unless it's attached to a Spyder or an ION.

The cheapest method is to cast the metal and then machine off the flash and get the frame to spec. This usually is done with cheap AL or potmetal. Good aluminum alloy is generally always machined.

Tell your machinist to buy a better gun or get a different job.

It's only cheaper though, if you're doing huge (and I mean frikin' HUGE) numbers of them.

The durned dies for injection molding metals cost more than most of us are worth.
