I always wondered this as innovation and creativity exists in both.
Ok I will start by saying

Autocockers: Heckler & Koch G3 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AR-15

Automags: AR 15 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AR-15

Shockers: MP5's

Ions: Uzis

Emags/Xmags: M4's

Tippmans: AK-47s http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AK-47

Spyders: UMP Heckler and Koch

id say ions are more like tech-9s
and why are autocockers like g3s? id say something like a marlin or winchester that has something come out the back when you cock it like a back block..

Brass Eagle: Shotgun, nice big spray pattern.

well id put the autococker in a category based on what they're known for, like not bieng terribly reliable, and im not quite sure which to say for not being terribly relable, maybe a 1st gen M16?

Minimag = Tech 9
Emag = Thompson machine gun
Tippmann's new electro = Nail Gun
Sydarm = .44 automag
ION = German Grease Gun (fast and crappy)

I'm going to say that automags would be more like HKG3s, in that they work differently than everything else, are accurate, and are respected by those that understand them, and have a devoted cult following.
Emags would be HK21Es (faster,belt-fed heavier variant of the G3)

Cockers would be the AR15 family- can be reliable if built well and maintained, can be an absolute POS if not built well and maintained, also everybody and their mother makes every part and accessory for it.

The various Tippmann models would be like the M1 Garand, and family (BM59,M14, and loosely Mini14/30) reliable, all operate roughly the same way despite external differences

I'd put Spyders as the AK family- lots of variants, reliable, not very accurate, poor ergonomics, copied by many

Most modern electros, I would class as civilian firearms that may excel at doing specific things, but not as durable as military arms (What happens when batteries go dead, or eyes get covered with broken paint?)

A .68 automag would be a .44 automag:

To be correct, first AR-15, M16, M16A1, then M16A2. I'm lost past that since there is much activity and development going on right now. I also don't know when/if they are no longer properly called AR-15. :D

ion should be a XM-8 even though the project got canned

the xm8 got canned??!! thats pretty disappointing.

i will venture to say my mag would be an ak-47 because of the good reliability.

i definately agree that the m16 would be the autococker. i feel like i never know what'll happen when i pull the trigger....please don't blow up in my face....

my old viking would be the m249 (SAW) Its a bit heavy (for a wee guy like myself), but man it could spit some rounds down range.

Brass Eagle / Ions would be like a Glock .45 (or anything larger than 9mm); i.e., it's made of plastic and when you pull the trigger it might put a shot where you want or explode on you instead :D

The frames are polymer and therefore plastic.

There.... wasnt one?

The US had a "grease gun", know as the M3A1 http://www.ginklai.net/images/galerija/2662_m3_a1_2.jpg

.45, cheap/ easy to make (stamped aluminium parts). Much cheaper and more simple than the thompson... Came out in 1944......iirc. I know they had more of a role in the Pacific front....

Maybe you mean the german Mp-40? http://www.aucn89.dsl.pipex.com/Sales/mp40%20accs.jpg

9x19 (9mm), had a barrel attachment to shoot around corners..... called a Schmeisser sometimes...

Yes, i know way to much about WW2 small arms...

What about the Sten?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sten

That's what I think of for WWII cheap and fast.

Sten was the uber cheap. Bike shops in france actualy made the from bike parts. I tihnk the allies droped them from planes as well...

Well, feel free to take your chances, but...

"Disturbingly, reports of Glock 21 pistols that have been exploding in the hands of their users has been increasing in recent years. The latest incident happened to not one, but *two* individuals within a week right here in Portland, OR. Here is a link to the latest incident..."

Ok for those of you that have played Counter Strike. What guns would they be categorized under?
