I just got back in from fishing with my little niece who is about 3 and a "cousin"(my brothers sister-in-laws son)who is 9.

We went down to the bridge by the old baileys bait camp in Bridge City. Usualy realy good for crabs, and small poggys or croakers. I just wanted them to have fun, my niece has been doing the "uncle Cory, can we go fishing" routine all summer [Smile] .

I had no more than tossed a line out and started to tie on a rig than i see my rod almost take a dive. In about an hour, I managed to hook each one of them up with 5-6 redfish in the 12-15 inch cattegory, and my niece caught a speck that was right at 14. We even got hold of a couple of crabs to show them.

Thats not much for someone who fishes alot, but for a kid, it was a highlight of the summer. It was both of thems first time to catch a fish. I couldnt take them wading or something, but i think we started them out pretty well [Big Grin] .

She fell asleep in the car, but the first thing she said when we got in was "when can we come again?

Thats what makes fishing fun. I love to catch them, i love to do it myself, but ive had my shot, ive caught big bulls, but watching kids, and being able to help them, get started and take so much pleasure in something so simple is more fun than anything else.

She caught more redfish and speckled trout in two hours than ive caught in the last 6months.....small though they were, the three year old pwnd me :p

Fishing is something that once you start, you will never stop loving. My father taught me, and one of the last days i ever spent with the man(who died when i was 10) was on a river fishing. There is no greater joy in my life than seeing a little kid do something that i love, and love it in return.
