Ok I know it isn't really related to paintball, but since I post here during work hours lol. I figured I ask all of you. I am working here www.wti.com not to many calls today :D
I do their tech support, but find myself day dreaming at times of PB, PB projects, PB tactics etc.

Ok I better get back to work. :ninja:

I work at ParexLaHabra Inc, a worldwide company that manufactors cementitious products. I work in the researh and developement lab, testing and formulating new products. (basically we make LOTS of money selling dirt, sand, and rust)

Funny thing is I have a degree in graphic design. I started out doing mechanical engineering, switched to graphic design, and now am doing a little of chemical engineering :tard: (on a basic level) I'm currently looking to switch to a job that follows my degree a little more.

You must be fortunate enough to live somewhere that illegal labor hasn't destroyed the pay scale. I used to be half of a remodeling buisness with my father. Within a period of 5 years our "hourly" equivalent went from well over $20 an hour to down around 10-15 IF we were lucky. It actually got to the point where mexicans would bid the job cheaper than we could get materials.

...nothing against mexicans, just stating a fact.

its not the illegal labor thats killing us here, but a lot of contractors have crews that bid stuff so low that they can barely survive. We specialize in remodeling in higher end homes and we already have a great client base that realizes that you get what you pay for. Building new houses is also far worse than remodeling as far as profits goes. I work for a family company too and have only been working there for about a year. But the company does a house about every 4-5 years.

one of the strategies going around here is to under bid the competition then over charge the client. At the end of the job the client get a bill for 2 times the next highest bid with the reason "unforeseen expenses". I can't figure out how they stay in business.

I love the cnc framer... never knew that was a job? We just go out and frame it.

Full time forklift driver, part time contractor. In theory my crew and I can build a house without outside help, but there are some things you just have to have a licence to do.

Are any other contractors having problems finding "reasonable" prices land? I seems in this area land prices jumped about 40-50% over the last year. Between that and the abundance of town homes business is SLOW.

My dad and I have 500 acres of farmland, only about 350 are in use because of the lack of water. It's all in hay and we small square bale almost all of it to sell as horse hay. The rest is round baled and we'll either sell it as cow hay or feed it to our own cattle. So we basically sell hay and cattle. Not from us.

However, most of our promo t-shirts end up on eBay in some form or another. I work for C&D Zodiac as a quality control inspector.

And how do you nearly cut off your finger doing that?

I currently run a very small marker repair business out of my room. Not much, but it pays for paint. And within the next couple of months, I will be turning 18, and will then be able to get a good job. Probably at Big 5.

Truth is...every developer/publisher work you to the bone. When you need to push a product out the door at a certain date, you're working crazy hours. But a lot of people enjoy the challenge, the perks this industry has, and the possibilities of decent royalty checks and bonuses.

I've also worked for Activision and it was no different. Working OT for days on end is just part of the industry. That's why certain developers get upset when people comment about how lazy they were in producing such an inferior game when the average gamer has no idea what kind of work was put into it. The sad truth is, lots of developers have the talent to produce AAA titles but rarely will they have that chance because investors want to see quick returns which binds developers into tight, almost impossible schedules.

Unlike Blizzard, Id, or Valve, they can all dictate when they want to ship.

my brother works in a similar field (hes incharge of a team that runs websites for a very large internet cellphone distributor) he said his people get worked so hard (and so does he) and that some of the higher ups dont get that if they let the people go home at normal hours that there would be better work coming out because they would all be rested but ooooooo nooooo heaven forbid that anyone works less than 60 hours a week.

do you at least get paid overtime? i know a lot of people get paid hourly with 1.5x pay for overtime, but ive heard some people get paid a constant rate regardless of their hours.

60HRs a week is not that excessive and should not wear anyone out.

Nope. No overtime pay for me. But in the end, we do get compensated a little bit. The paid time off definitely doesn't even equal the amount of OT we put. However, the downtime in between projects helps with the wind down time as well where we can play games at work and leave early if we wanted.

I would definitely be a rich man if the game industry paid its developers OT. It would also make us less bitter at times.

But I must admit, the feeling you have knowing you've completed a project makes you feel good.
