I found this over on /.
Kid loses his Ipod and then gets profiled as a terrorist....! :cuss:

Now the credibility of the story is debatable given its on WoW forums.... but I still believe it happened.

The gov't interviewer was a total n00b. The real question should of been after he found out he was playing WoW was if he played Horde or not? Horde = Terrorist, no more questions necessary. :D

He whispered into my ear. "Did you ... did you take a dump, and then drop your iPod in the toilet on accident?"

I agree. But, thats a little beside the point. The point being (IMO) that all the new laws and regulations are just going that much further to take away our freedom and allowing the terrorists to succeed. Go read the the /. article and comments and maybe youll get a better idea of what I mean.

I call shens. If a plane had been landed and a bomb suspected...it would have been ALL OVER THE NEWS while and after it was happening.

Now that I am at home and can read this one a bit closer I call BS to about 50% of the story. My BS meter really pegs into the red when he started getting irate with the customs officials. I can believe he is the guy that lost an iPod in the crapper and that he was detained by customs. But I have serious doubts about how belligerent an out of work physics major who plays WoW and flys to meet online friends was with the customs agents. It think he probably shat another iPod while they were questioning him.

It does kinda go to underscore just how paranoid we have become over terrorism. When a scat covered iPod fished from a clogged up airplane crapper is enough to cause a plane to be diverted and all the passengers detained / questioned, we really have shown the terrorists who's in charge. :(

What really pissed me off was the third news article link, where the lady who was on the plane assumed that he flushed the soggy ipod down the toilet when he saw it drop and relized it was broken. I mean... if your ipod drops into the toilet and you flush it, what do you expect happens to it... Also, most ipods have some identifiable info on them. Mine has my name.

I really don't know about shens witht he customs official. He might have been sprucing up the story, but if the custom's official really said those things, I would say right on for standing up to him. Stupid arrogant officials think they're above the law... :cuss:
