I have a adiction to automobiles and i think i must now admit it i guess some of ya guys might put it as im a car whore . At Present time i OWN three cars and one motorcycle. Its gotten bad enuf that parking in my driveway is now a puzzel game LOL. I have now owned a total of 8 vehicals in 7 years and on average kept each for three years.

But none the less i am LOVING the new addition. Its the newest and NICEST car i i personally have ever owned and is just alot of fun to drive. And its the first time i have ever bought a vehical from a dealership with a warrenty not to mention its the most expensive car i ever bought. Its a 2004 VW Jetta GLS TDI with a 5 speed. Car is LOADED with every option with the exception of leather. Its so dang comfy all my other vehicals all of a sudden seem so primitive LOL. Im hopeing to get rid of one of my older cars and just keep this one my truck and my bike although i may sell the truck as well. BUt enuff chitter chatter heres the pics (i need a better camera).

Well i like Diesels period. Im also a Diesel mehcanic by trade. As for milage the little white golf with its 1.6L n/A got 45-50mpg. the new car well it aint even close to empty yet so i let ya know in a few weeks but a few buddies have similare cars and average 55-60mpg. they go up to 1200kms (just over 700 MILES) to a single tank of 50 liters of Diesel and can run on Bio Diesel in stock form. Once ya start moding them they REALLY fly (their quick stock but moded they stick with the Vr6) and milage does not suffer mutch at all in some cases if driven the same they get the same or better.

ive alwways liked the VW diesels in particular, great milage, good looks, good per9formance, but ive heard from a good friend that they arent terribly relaible and are harder to fix, (possibly just because theyre diesel engines) but how have they held up for you?

There as reliable as anything else out there, though not this ultra super reliability VW and diesel enthusiasts would have you beleive. If you *know* what you are doing they are no more a pain to fix than anything else (aside from some VW specialty tools). Its when people who barely understand gas engines try to get involved with diesels that you create issues.

Well my old car is great engein widse its been flawless and the car around its been as reliale as they come as well but its no mirical car like some wouuld say. It has broken and at this time is broken (brake lines and wheel bearings).

These new ones, their the same. Just a tad more complicated (as everyhting these days). but its a car their all built the same way some cars are more problematic in certin areas than others but for the most part if ya maintain em they stay running. I have never owned a car that i felt unsafe takeing across country at any time becase aprox every 2-3 months i go over the entir car as a regular service (basically i do a saftey every 2-3 months on ALL my vehicals). I know exactly whats comeing up and whats good. The problem these days are not that cars are any less reliable its that they drive so well that most of the population forgets that as ALL mehcanical things they need to be maintained and inspected at proper perioodic intervals. If you do so any car will keep you on the road for many many years.

If your asking can you buy one of these and neglect it and just drive it for 500,000miles without ever fixing anything well TRUST me as a mehcanic NO CAR can do that. So do these cars were parts ya but no sooner or longer than anything else on the road if its maintained.

Wheres the truck? I see some sort of hotweels contraption with a ford logo on it in some of the pics

THIS (http://www.hunt101.com/img/386746.JPG) little hotwheels contraption you talk of has sen more use as a pickup than many of the 3/4 tons and 1 tons out thier. When i buy a vehical i use it and i asshure you this Ford ranger has seen its share of use. In all actuality i use this wee truck just as mutch as i did my old F250 Diesel (http://www.hunt101.com/img/329223.jpg) .

And for that matter no pickup truck is a real truck LOL im a Diesel heavy truck mehcanic for a living all pickups are toys compared to the stuff i work on every day. Like Sleemans rigs (http://www.sleemanusa.com/images/brewery-truck.jpg) Classic xl Freightliners with the C15 and 13 speed eaton trans.

I drive a 2005 Jetta TDI 5-speed. Over 46,000 miles, my weighted average is about 44 mpg (combined city+highway). I have gotten 55 mpg on long highway trips, though.

a few buddies have similare cars and average 55-60mpg. they go up to 1200kms (just over 700 MILES) to a single tank of 50 liters of Diesel and can run on Bio Diesel in stock form.

Also, keep in mind that before the 2004 (or 2003?) model year, the VW diesels had a different, 90hp engine. A coworker who has one gets significantly better mileage than my beefy 100hp model. I haven't looked into it too much since the closest station with biodiesel is too far away, but I don't think VW has given the official thumbs-up on using bio in the PD model.

Edit: checked the VW website...
1. Volkswagen recommends the use of standard diesel fuel or commercially supplied biodiesel blends of no more than five percent (“B5”) biodiesel.
2. Never use any fuel, whether diesel, B5 biodiesel, or otherwise, that fails to meet the latest petroleum industry specifications or that is not purchased from a commercial retail diesel pump. If you are unable to determine whether a particular fuel blend is B5 biodiesel that meets the latest biodiesel industry specifications (ASTM D6751), ask your service station for more information.
3. Never use any fuel for which the contents cannot be identified.

Well first tank pulled off 49.8mpg US or 4.76L/100kms for us canucks of mixed driving mostly country roads and alot of playing with the go pedal with some traffic and very little highway.. I spent the entire of yester day driving the car and never really tired of it. Awsome car and one i see staying on the driveway for some time.

As for the biodiesel thing yeah i stand corrected for this engein although my bro ran b100 bio in a 03 90hp TDI chiped and moded and although it was not sactioned by VW it did run great and so far no ill effects. But if he tried runing it in the winter he'd of never started the thing. But these PD engeins feel almost as strong as the heavily moded 03 of my brothers 10hp more and 25lbs of tq more stock. Im already tempted to look at the upsolute stage 1 chip. Also gona run a boost gauge and EGT gauge befor any toys go on. Other than that im just gona drive the car and enjoy passing the fuel pumps.

And yes im a member of the TDIclub as Tinybear.

Woo sweet ride. I picked up a 2002 Jetta TDI this year myself. 42+ MPG on a slushbox isn't bad. Getting chipped next month, maybe some Kerma powerplus nozzles next year. Low end torque is definately fun. The ALH is a bit more robust over the PD engine so I can run biodiesel alot easier if I wanted to. Let alone VW spec oil. You find oil thats spec in Canada easier with more choices probably though. Waaay more TDIs up there.
Just make sure you get an independant TDI specialist for the timing belt and not the dealership when it comes time. Unless the track record is better up there.

HEHE i do all my work myself.

Did the timeing belt on my bros 03 TDI last year. It was a PITA but got it done without too mutch headach. This one should be easier because you have no injection pump too lock off just the cam.

Im very glad i waited to get a PD model as performance wise its almost on par with a chiped 90hp model. And although im trying to resist the uge to modify it i cant help but wonder how mutch more i could get outa it  .

The question then is how much smoke and noise can you handle? :wow:
Dropping in a vnt-17 turbo, powerplus 520 nossles, rocketchip stage 3 and a clutch to handle it would get that white smoke flowing and the tires bald. I think some of the euro modders can really go nuts with the available stock TDIs over there.

The 0-60 will never be much to 'write home' about, but the 20-90 is what makes it fuuun. Just make a good thought towards getting a metal skid plate for extra protection from the bottom-outs and road debris. I hear the oil pans like to get cracked and kill the whole engine quickly if not shut down immediately.
