Tell me more about SSB and those things off the side on CB radio stuff.

I have dorked around with regular CB in the truck for years. But never gotten into any further base station stuff. So I finaly broke down and bought a Texas Ranger TR-696F AM/SSB Base station and an Antron A99 antenna to set up in the scooter shop. Although I am having it upgraded and tuned its basicaly AM/SSB stuff.

Not ready to go FCC tech and deal with 10 meter stuff yet. This might do me good. Best base I could find. Just never have dealt with Single Side band and this other USB or LSB stuff it has.

We used to rip up TV's and stereos for miles with 500 watts so act accordingly. When the FCC Man shows up he won't be happy. Call me on the cell tomorrow and I'll explain some stuff to you. ;)

Tied up today with my Contractors... maybe call ya tonight or tomorrow?

Well as for all the rest... time will surely end up telling won't it? Right now I am just trying to implement the basics. A simple Antron set up, and a Automatic Tuner and just push the 50 watts at times. Nothing fancy. Scan the CB bands and listen to the HF and FM bands some.

So my main issue was the install of the simple horizontal. One questiion comes to mind

I have this existing Tripod on the rooof. It currently holds a Sattelite Internet dish. A big one. I was thinking about removing the dish and using that tripod to secure the Antron too. Since that existing tripod is probably rated for a lot more wieght and wind than most anything I can buy as it held a big old wind catcher before. I figured this would work. This wil, by estimate, put me up nearer to the overall 36 foot range I am under the impression I want.

However I have two questions related to this

can you count the footage above ground when placed on a large roor into that whole matrix to arrive at height?

Do I insulate the Antron from the metal of the tripod? Or should it be directly in contact? (that tripod has a ground copper to its own Ground rod already)
