View Full Version : AO Car Show!

All right AO goers! If you've got a nice set of wheels you want to show off, enter the compition I'm hosting! That's right, I'm organizing a competitive car show over the internetz!

I will have 5 judges, as listed below (just post the word "judge" if you want to be one) and I'll add you to the list! Judges will pick their favorite three (3) from each catagory and PM them to me, where I will tally the votes and then edit this post with the 3 finalists. Then, the forum goers (read: YOU!) will vote your favorites by posting 1 vote for each catagory!)

Judges:
- DeTrevni (well, I wanna be one! I promise I won't even vote for mine! :D)
- BeaverEater
- maxama10
- BREAD DA PAINTER
- Cow hunter

Catagories:
- Cars
- Classic Cars
- Trucks / SUV
- Moto bikes (Motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, etc)
- Other (dune buggies, mopeds, Segways for all I care. keep it serious)

Winners get, well, I dunno, respect for a killer ride! It's more of a fun thing.

Rules:
- NO FLAMING CARS! I don't want to hear any "ricer crap" or "granny car" comments!
- Post pics and SPECS!!! It's not much to base a judgement on just looks.
- Judges will post their picks on the 15th of October, making it a month long show!
- Open judging will only last 5 days.
- You can enter all the cars you like, but judges can only pick one per screen name.

Have Fun!

Mine: 1965 Buick Skylark Special.

Pic Link (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d140/paintbrawlerdon1/buickside1.jpg)

Specs:
- 355 lbs. of torque
- Around 300 HP (it's the economy engine.)
- Flowmaster exhaust.

It's still almost original, minus the exhaust, and that's hard to come by!

Hey, I'm running the thing, and I put mine in! Plus, I'll know if you voted for yours, so I can just discredit it! :D

I probably won't though. Honor system people!

Here's my Lexus LX470. I'm entering it into the competition for my custom work, not for being a high dollar ride.

Here is the custom storage drawers & sleeping platform I made for the rear. You can see I stained the wood maple to match the factory wood (see the steering wheel). Follow the link for the picture gallery.

I'll try to get off my butt and take pictures of my BMW Z.

You know, i think that we need to make some more categories for vehicles. I think that there needs to be a seperate category for trucks/suvs, and classic cars. Because honestly its hard to compare a truck, domestic or import against a car. same with a classic car.

i have an 04 pontiac vibe. it's a nice ride. it's good and all, but i want to do some work on it. i've already done the sound system, but now i want to increase the performace of the car. where do you all get your parts from? there are a few parts stores around where i live but i'm not sure if the are just stock parts, or if they have upgrades also. what kind of stuff should i look at or look for? i was looking to get a cold air intake, probably a turbo, new cam-shaft, plus i'm almost positive i have to upgrade the computer/electrial system. i plan on also doing some visual mods after i'm done under the hood. thanks for all advice.

I spend just under 2k, at its highest price this summer for 3.89/gal, a month in gas and diesel month for 6 trucks and 12 pieces of equipment .

A 550 gets about 8mpg with my biggest load, 32 footer with a Toro 455 and 580-D on it during the summer. When its winter locked in 4wd 10 foot straight blade plow with a 22 foot trailer with either my Skid steer or Kubota Tractor, about 4mpg on the road but will down a 19 gal tank in 6hrs of being on jobs plowing. Thats why I carry a 5 gal and a fuel bong to get it clean ups done with enough to get back to the gas station.

Yeah they are shaped like a brick but they get the job done and put money in the pocket.

I bought it like that so I don't exactly know how the hood got so screwed up, maybe the guys that had it before left it open and the wind caught it. I paid a whopping $290 for it. It came from a military surplus place here in town where they used to fix up old 6x6's and unimogs. The guy has an absolutely friggin sweet unimog that he built for rockcrawling.

I bet those twins sound awesome! What kind of boost pressures are you getting with that? Don't have too much fun with it or you'll end up upgrading your headgaskets and putting head studs on it. ;)

Some of the higher elevations here in CO have snow already, but not down here where I'm at. Hopefully it'll hold off for awhile longer. The high for today is only about 50 degrees which feels freaking cold right now! Eh I guess I'll get used to it again. :(

I don't even know yet I was going to have it put on the dyno get some specs after those axel seals are repaired. I'll just probably just end up getting it chipped to get some more torque out of her. Plus a few extra toys on her. BTW her name is Mary Ann

"Still"??? did you miss the part where I'd NEVER done that before???

Milage is 22ish city, 32ish highway... depends if I am driving conservatively (staying out of the boost, under 4k rpm) or in a hurry (20psi boost, 7k rpm...). Pegging the Cruise at 80mph I get 30-31 mpg depending on temp and if the A/C is running.

Read into it... Its a heavy *** car w/ front wheel drive.... 14.6 is a good time... Could be better but it won't see any better that 14 without some major engine work..

Btw nice GTI i have a few friends with them and they are fun fast and oh so nimble... much better handeling compared to the MKIV's but i just can't get over the looks... way to big of a car...

Although a Candy White GTI w/coilovers spun most of the way do is really quite appealing.

Nice, I saw the local Airports operation for mowing (FAA regulates that the grass is to be mowed at 2in and no longer than 3 with no clumping)

I'll take you on that bet HLD but I wont use a 550 I'll use my 2WD 94 Superduty with it geared extremly low and having a 5:13 rear end with both of your cars hooked up it, It'll look at them and say "Did I just fart?" LOL J/K.

My 94 is a suprising story. The previous owner of the company bought it from a logging company (they sold it because it had the crane but no out rigers) tried to destory it in landscape work ended up seizing a pin and busting a bracket that held the ram to the box. A bandage later works just as good. I used it for landscaping for 1/2 the year then switched it over to the spraying crew but I want to expand into more masonry so next year its going out on those jobs and tree service. It should only last 3 years then its junk ... maybe.

LOL I'd do it in a heart beat but unfortinatly HLD you win right now. My crew decided to vs. it today against a light pole that was concreted into the ground when it was loaded with 3 ton's of Medium Mermac stone at 45mph :( =super crunch, short story passenger wasn't wearing a seat belt and had to pick his teeth out of a dash board. Twisted frame, a drive shaft that looked like a pretzel, a 200lb (about) tail gate flew off of it and destoryed a focus, and not to mention the pole became a part of the truck. Insurance is covering the truck and the plow for it considering they don't make mounts for it anymore.

I get a new truck yeah, looking at a 99-04 F450, or a Dodge 3500. But I got a 8yr old Fisher 9 1/2 ft straight blade for sale the pump has been rebuilt and repowder coated a year ago.

Hmm, someone understands that magical thing called gearing.

Like I said old 2wd logging truck orignally a 14ft steak bed with a graber crane off the end of it but was cut shorter to 10ft. It pulled my 300gal John Deere spary truck around with a 300gal water tank around like nothing. Granted it couldn't go on the freeway, It topped out at 67mph with a 5spd.

Sorry. However, feel free to post it if you want to show it off!

Unfortunately, I don't think there would be much change in vehicles in one month, so there won't be one next month. Maybe this could be a bi-monthly thing though, so check back in December.

3100 lbs is "heavy"??? it'll be into the 13s with me getting better at launching and stickier tires.

Just for comparison:
My old 92 Mustang GT Convertible weighed in at 3000lbs. Bone stock it ran 14.5 1/4 miles and got around 23 mpg as it was my daily driver.

The only thing i like about the new mustangs is the 1/4 window. Other than that they arent impressive at all when it comes to power.

beats me, that was 10 years ago. I'm guessing based on weight of the two the Mustang was probably slower, probably not by much though. But that's not was I was getting at anyway. I just happened to remember those numbers and thought it was a close comparison for two vehicles made 14 years apart.

My 240sx daily whip. Well, i havn't bought it yet, but its mine. Im painting it silver and will have mild suspension, wheels, and differential upgrade. In the future, I'm gonna either bolt on a turbo or if i really feel like spending cash, complete an LS1 swap (V8)

ls1 swap will get you a 12 second car.... that gets about 28mpg maybe a bit more.
be careful though, those "import" guys will give you lots of crap about how great the "s" motors are.

well they can stick it up their ***. I'll most likely destroy them in a drag race and thats not even what im aiming my car for lol. LS1 with some bolts ons will do a high 11 sec qrt mile pass. I choose this route over the RB (skyline motor) because believe it or not, its lighter. Not only that, but its even l100lbs ighter than the STOCK 4 clyinder in the 240. My 240s are more suited towards drifting so throttle response and torque are there and unbeatable. There are a couple companies that supply swap kits for these SOBs now so, case closed.

Sounds like it would be pretty comparable to the V8 RX7 one of my club members runs.

Think he's finally managed to break all the stock parts and replace almost everything in the drive line.

240sx's and RX-7's just happen to be the lucky import hosts that can take in an LS1 swap fairly easily.
