i sure do, the current mech mag i use right now is awesome for speedball. you really dont need an electro to cover your grounds. :shooting:

Never played speedball with anything but a mechanical.

The one time I tried, the Eblade Cocker crapped out on me, so I went back to the trusty milled down Micro-mag and played like a hero all day.

the last i played, there was about 16 of us. of all of them, i think only two had electros. the rest were half mech semis and then pumps. it was kind of fun playing against pumps/mechs in speed ball. the rounds didn't go by all too quick and there wasn't all kinds of paint just flying everywhere. good times.

I usually play a couple of games with the e-mag then switch to my classic valved mag for the rest of the evening.
Fist time on a speedball field I used a little Tippman pump, the looks on the faces of the kids shooting ego's was priceless.

I play with my phantom almost exclusively for speedball. Its lighter and smaller.

For big games i use my cocker, since it has a big hopper and a bigger tank.

Pump or mech, depends on mood and circumstances. I put the electronics away over three years ago.

Chronobreak

mech only.

if i have an electro i want to post up and walk teh trigger....and end up being skimmed on my side almost every time.

with my mech i tend to snapshoot 1-3 bps fast and am back in and ready to pop out ina different spot.

i like the rt sicne it seems to improve my reaction time as well.

shawn has heard me ripping the mech :D

I run pump, mech, and electro all in speedball.

The pump is great practice for snap shooting, the mec gives a few extra balls when needed, and the electro just feels godlike :)

Pump - SC Pewter Phantom
Meg - 68 Classic Automag, no ups at all
Electro - E2 Mq highly upped Outkast cocker

Also tend to play a bit of one ball, can have no hopper, and either 1 ball in your hand, or one in the marker, and yes, youc an carry all the paint you want in a pack/pod (fanny pack is the easiest)

ah, civil war style, I miss playing like that. The closest we get to that now is hopper ball, whatever fits in your hopper only, no pods.

The gun I use the most is my Zgriped automag, I didnt get to use it much this summer with our local field being closed down, the owner let us fill off of the tanks we had, but since we was so limited on air I usually used either my pump or my fusion. For rec days I always use my pump or one of my mech mags, for tournaments I use my fusion, and I use my emag when ever I feel like it.

PGP is a fun way to quickly figure out how to move to the 50, since thats about when I start hitting people with it.

I play used to play woodsball with an electro (spyder electra acs 05) but now I use an all mech minimag with some mechanical upgrades. I like mech over electro for woodsball because It dosent jam or lose batteries in the middle of a game. I cannot tell you how many times my spider died during a scenario game. True scenariogamers play mech, or they carry extra batteries. :D

great thing about it is it really doesn't matter how fast your marker is, we get people playing one ball with DM6s and anything else they have...but I almost always use my mag for oneball, MUCH easier to load then my cocker (unless i set the c t/out insanely high)

I play speedball/airball with a mech true semi. Then again, my mech has a 40gram trigger pull and I mix in flawlessly with electros :p

When (if) my microphantom ever arrives, I plan on playing some speedball with it quite often.

Edit: I have a feeling the new viking is going to KILL my paint budget. even more than when I play with my mag all day.

I have my mech mags for warming up. They make me think. The fellas I play with are brutal. I consider myself lucky if I even see one of them in a game. Usually all I see is a stream of paint arcing out from the other side of the field. So with the mags I force myself to move up and try to find a shot. Then after a few games of that I switch to the obscene firepower of my '06 ego

I was using my pumps for one of the games at 4 of the 5 tournies I was at this year.
Any more and my team mates would have strung me up.
Many of the other teams thought I was crazy and they really respected me for it, as they were not courages enough to go out on the field with a pump when everyone else on the field is ramping.

I have not played speedball with a mech regularly in about a year and a half to two years. I will still get out there with a mech, especially when there are less experienced players to make it more of a challenge.

I have honestly been spoiled by electronics. I like eyes. I like not having to carry a squeegie anymore. I like not having to clean out my hopper from a terrible chop. Understanding of course that many "evolved" mag owners don't have this problem either....but I ALSO like getting almost 2K shots from a fill. :D

As a side note NONE of my electronic markers are set to ramp. Semi and a touch of bounce only with the ROF cap in place. I like to be able to one ball while I snapshoot....

70% stock class (Carter/Phantom/Sheridan depends on my mood) that is mostly airball.

15% ule rt mag

15% intimidator

The last time I played at the local speedball field with my carter 3 friends busted out their phantoms. An intersted kid asked about the pumps, and I lent him my VSC Phantom to test out.

The refs eventually started breaking the "pump guys" up because we just kept rolling through the walkons (10 to 12 a side on what would be condiers a good 7 man airball field).

The begining player were on a different field, so this was the experiance group. The gear rabged from the Ego/Timmy/ DM crowd down to e blowbacks. There might have been 1 or 2 mech cockers.

I have to admit, I have played with and against the other 4 guys for years. When we play together we already kind of know who will play front/ back/tapes. Our crosses were real good that day and anyone that tryed to run through got shot as some as the got clear of their first bunker. We loaded the 50's and then just kind of picked them off.

Fun stuff.

If they werent beginners, and you were clearly outgunned(equipment only of course :D ), then why would the refs separate you. Instead, they should have made you an example by stacking the other side with even MORE players for you to shoot at. Its not like you and your team will be overshooting.

We were cool with it. 3 of us have reffed out there. We all kind of have a rep with the locals as being every bit as dangerous as any player on the field. In fact 2 of us were responsible for putting pumps in the hand of the people that brought the Old School Challenge to NorCal.

Any time a player not in the know rags on any of the pump players the are often told stuff like "You should have an easy day, I am carrying less paint than you will shoot in the first 10 seconds of the game."

They learn. Great paintball will always be about communication and motion. :headbang:

i use pumps/mechs all the time....untill recently. i picked up an ion for a "backup" and i cant really put it down.... blasphemy i know.... but eyes rock. not carying a squegee rocks. and btw, i play with it set on semi at 11bps cap. believe it or not, i dont use to much paint that way, and i enjoy the no kick....

Yuck. Mags have less kick than Ions... And they come from AGD. And they never chop, with a tuned LX.

OHHH the sweetness...

1 of 3 and I guess for a reason. I have owned it now for 5 years. Never really a downtime with it. The original frame and rock started flaking so I put new to make it look better but everything is pretty much the way it came. The original ram finally went out at about 10 billion cycles so I put a smc on it. Now its +/-2 over the chrony. People locally who have shot it know whats up. Best cocker I have ever shot/owned/seen/touched.

Anybody out there still play speedball with a mech?
Every since I joined the Old School Challenge, I use my PumpMag all the time - Pump tourneys for OSC and NSA, speedball, rec play, when playing solo or with teammates. Playing pump really improved my game, and forces your team to work together. I recently got an E-mag and shot it at Huntington Beach NPPL March 2006 and will shoot it again this week at Orange County NPPL October 2006. But I'll bring my PumpMag too.

The Return of the Automag..................

Every time I shoot it.

RRfireblade that is really sweet. Is it hard to mill the ULE for pump ?
I have to buy a mag pump kit somewhere and I will try and put one together.
That is the first pump mag I have ever seen with an Xvalve.
When looking at pump mags I have often wondered if an Xvalve would have any advantage,
and why I've never seen one used on a pump.
I have an abundance of black Xvlaves and would like to use one for a pump.

I do have an Emag but I end up shooting it for one game and putting it away when I play.
Costs too much in paint. 1000 balls in one game. Then one of the mech mags come out.
Today I tried to be cheap and use paint thats been in my trunk (in Florida) for over a month.
Well all I did was chop paint all inside the Empire B so I had to use the mech mag all day
with the slower Reloader II . Sometimes being cheap doesnt pay. But it was fun nonetheless.
The mech has an Xvalve of course, with ULE and Logic Vert frame.

I've only ever played with a mech mag...i just can't get myself to trust anything electro...i've seen other players at the feild in the middle of the game trying to figure out why ther super duper electro won't shoot and i just keep going with my mech....i admit i do have an electro hopper but i'm still not dead in the water if that goes out. :shooting:

/\/\/\/\ try an emag with xmod its a sweet symphony of perfection.

This has to be one of the best threads (other than the tech threads) I have read in a long time.

Currently I have my Xmag and my mech mag which I am in the process of turning into a pump mag and pneumag. Before anyone says anything I have 2 different trigger frames one of which will house the pneumatics and the other will be for semi and pump play kind of my version of a tripple threat. That is whats great about Mags so many options sadly so little time to try them all.

I perfer playing with the mech over my X but only because... well actually that is a lie I love playing with both of them equally and general take them both out whenever I play! I still play tournies from time to time with my mech only because I haven't purchased a tourney lock for the Xmag.

Perhaps I'll have to do that since I've recently become the owner of two Emag valves...now about the lowers...maybe I'll have to get some, afterall they are from AGD.

Every once in a while I even revert back to a Sterling, but I'm not really good enough to play pump in a semi/electro world. :ninja:

Ooh, can you post a picture of the Sterling?

Thanks.

The milling is pretty simple if you have the secs, the pump function on a mag is a pretty basic approach. It's nothing more than if you've ever had to stick a swab down the barrel to get the bolt to catch that last little bit.

No advantage to the X other than looks and a bit of weight. That one has some minor experimental mods in it to increase efficiency. Showing good promise right now @ about twice the normal shot count.

This weekend I'll be putting the last of it together to go full SC.

I play with a lot of different guns. One of my favorite being my Classic RT. Probably because its the most consistent gun I own. I oil it, gas it up, and shoot.

The phantom wasn't even there, I have limited space in the back of my truck for all this stuff. :p What tourney is this? We recently lost a teammate, and another is gonna be out of town, so I doubt it.

I started w/a 98 then A-5 for scenario/woods. After that I got my c/f mini and sydarm, had that for a few years until about April when I built my new ULE mag (all mech w/ xvalve and an evo2) and had to rob the rail and y-grip. and now I just got a promaster about two weeks ago. I have only used it once in game though. and honestly I missed my mag in that game. not because of using up too much paint, but because I couldn't rely on my promaster to actually HIT what I shot at....it seemed to drop just short of the target. My mag never did that to me!! I shot at something it hit it!!!
