Hey guys, I just bought a dye cocker (cheap one) and I hooked it up to some air and put some paint through it and it is acting wierd. This is my first cocker, and I don't know if this is normal or anything, but I haven't seen a cocker act this way. I pull the trigger and it doesn't do anything but make an air sound (like there's air going through it) and then I pull the trigger again and it shoots a ball, but then I point the gun at the ground and a ball rolls out the barrel. And sometimes I pull the trigger and it uncocks, and I pull the trigger a couple of times more and it recocks. I don't know if the timing's off, or what, but right now I'm already thinking of making it a pump cocker, and I just got it 2 hours ago. Is this how cockers usually act? I realize it's not a very expensive one (130) but you would think it would at least shoot when I pull the trigger. I could include a picture if it would help. Thanks, guys, yall are awesome.

That almost sounds normal.

The first time you pull the trigger, it cocks the gun using the pneumatics. The second time you pull the trigger, it shoots the paintball and then recocks with the pneumatics.

You may just be shortstroking the trigger by not pulling it all the way back every time.
You should read up on timing an autococker if you like to tinker. Otherwise, just have the local shop or a friend who knows autocockers look it over and time it for you if it needs timing.

Autocockers are closed bolt, so the paintball sits loaded into the barrel. This is why it may roll out, the solution to this is to get a few different sized barrels or a barrel kit.

paintball addict- "The Sniper Pump kit is an easy upgrade for any (non mini) cocker and is now available in 3 colors...
MSRP: $35" (armyoforr.com) WGP- this is the autococker pump kit on this gun:
pic was too big, click here (http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j36/bboone87/sniper5.jpg)

Finchman- very nice diagram, I have never seen that before, mabe that should be stickied in the tech forum?

Oh yeah, are autocockers hard to maitenence? are they pickey? I know a guy by the name of matt cromwell who owns one and he says thier pesky and need fixed all the time, but when thier fixed thier good. Is this true? I have never owned an autockocker before, so I woulden't know.

it sounds like your timing/ lpr needs tuning.

best way to start with that is to do it either with out air or with the lpr basicaly "off". set the lug and make sure it will always hold back. then set the 3 way activation.

are cockers hard to maintain? IMHO not at all. i own a mech orry and the only problems i had was tuning it at first before i knew cockers well.

are they hard to time/work on? at first maybe but i can rip a cocker appart pretty fast... no where near as fast as a mag but its still decently fast.

cockers are not as bad as many people say they are, the reasons people have problems is becasue they tinker when they do not need to be messed with or tinker with parts they do not understand how they work.

best advice is to look at as many diagrams and descriptions you can before you mess with any thing.

pump time? 20-80 bucks for a pump kit. the stock wgp ones (35ish) are ok but the CCM kits (75 ish) are much much better IMHO (butter smoth, nice feel, good looking, and colored now). and to convert it all you do is take your back block off of the pump arm, remove your frint block assembly and timing rod, screw on pump kit, screw back block onto new pump arm. shoot.

hope this helps

Cockers are not hard to deal with. Sounds like you are short stroking the trigger, or that you may have the LPR too low, or that the cocking rod is out of adjustment.

Balls will roll out the barrel of a closed bolt marker is you are not matching paint to bore. IMO closed bolt markers are the only ones that this matters much on because of that.

PM me if you need any help. I am quite good with cockers and can help you time it tight.

i am 99% cure u need a 2k kit, but to be sure check the front block screw, if it is i think about 3/8 (not positive) then you have the 2k model. un less it is much smaller than 3/8 dont wory.

I have a "how-to" time a cocker file in the PneuMag Database (http://www.automags.org/forums/showthread.php?t=201012) . I don't know squat about cockers, but this should help.

Got the info from Moody Paintball (http://www.moodypaintball.com/pages/tech/index.htm). Good read, lots of info. Check them out.
