View Full Version : Truck/SUV of the Month

DeTrevni
11-01-2006, 04:17 PM
As has been suggested to me, I'm going to do shows in monthly intervals, giving time for members to get new gear or what-have-you. This month is Trucks/SUV's.

The r00lz:
- Pics AND Specs.
- Enter as many as you want, but only one will be able to make it to the "finals".
- Allowed vehicles: well, trucks. I'm fairly open-minded about the definition, just don't make it rediculous
- Entries will be closed on Nov. 15.
- Judging Process: Come the 15th, I'll ask the judges to send in their top 5 picks, based on (hypothetically) performance and appearance via PM. Then, after I get all the judges picks, I'll average the top results and post the top 5 winners. Then open judging will be held by the members of AO until the end of the month, probably in a poll this time.

As per usual, I'm gonna need 4 judges. If you wanna judge, speak up.

Judges:
- DeTrevni
- Alley
- etjoyride
- >><<
- BeaverEater

Eh... don't be too sad, vehicle restoration takes a lot of time and $$$. Seeing as you've got a family that makes it even harder to get it all done. Believe me I know what you're going through, I currently have 3 projects that I'm working on and several on the back-burner!

Is it me or is that back tire about half the size of the front?
The Blazer gets my vote unless I can vote for Billybobs 6wd truck.

Yrsh, the back tires are smaller it has 35" tires and 6" of lift so it doesnt fit in the garage!!

the rear end was backed into the garage for the metal to be welded on....

Well heck and I busted butt to get my pickup partially together to meet the deadline! Oh well I'll get it completely back together and then post some more pics, but I might as well post the ones I took of it tonight for the time being.

Stats:

95 F-250 powerstroke, BD downpipe into 4 inch straight pipe, gutted exhaust backpressure valve, shimmed fuel pressure regulator, pedal mod, pyro, boost, and tranny temp gauges in A-pillar, Grant Challanger series steering wheel, Sony CD player, headache rack with four off-road lights (not on it in these pics), Delta toolbox, Westin nerf bars, Rhino lined bed, Open element intake, Bullydog chip, 285/75/R16 Yokohoma Geolander all-terrains, bedlinered floorboards, bedlinered rocker panels, new paint, 4 inch suspension lift.

Soon to come: 5 speed ZF transmission with a south bend con-fe clutch (will start installing it tomorrow evening when my buddy comes over to help me out), hopefully I'll save up some $$$ for a tony wildman burned chip, and some DIY stage one injectors too. :)

Here are some pics as of right now minus the headache rack, front and rear bumpers, and emblems. Oh and I know my windows are dirty, but I had to take pics before it got too dark!

but, you need to get some tires on that thing!!!! Its begging for a set of BFG MTs!!

The thing is that this pickup will be my go to town pickup and trailer puller, so I've got to keep the height reasonable for the gooseneck trailers. Also those 33" Yokohoma Geolanders have like 97% tread on them... I've driven less than 10,000 miles on those tires!

I was at a military surpluss auction and we had to leave for a bit, but while we were gone I missed out on two full sets of 36" Hummer tires mounted on 8 lug rims. They sold for less than $100 per set! I was definately kicking myself for that.... :(

Alley
11-17-2006, 07:04 AM
That would have been awsome, relase value alone would have been worth it....
Do you have to be in the military to go to the auctions? That sounds like a pretty dang cool thing.

billybob_81067
11-17-2006, 09:26 AM
No you don't have to be in the military to go to them, it was just a local army surpluss store that also happened to be a recycling facility. They decided to get out of the surpluss end of it so they could pursue the recycling side even more. The guy also had a shop where they fixed up unimogs and 6x6's for resale to the public. Pretty sweet operation really.

I did manage to buy a junked 6x6 for a whopping $295 dollars though! You can bet it will have bigger tires on it than my pickup! ;)

Just looked it up. I think it's lateral accelerations (0.9g+) is even MORE impressive than the acceleration. There's a lot of straight line performers that can't handle the curves, but this one obviously can. If I were at a different place in my life, I'd be all over one of these. Sadly, I'm at the "Just bought a Toyota Sienna for the kids" point.

You bedlined your floors and put no carpet in it? How loud is that in the cab. I was planning on doing the Blazer floor in bedliner but, I was thinkin I'd need to get something to dampen the loudness of the diesel reverbing in the interior.....plus the road noise...

It's loud enough that you have to turn the volume of the radio up a few notches in order to hear any music, but I don't mind because diesels sound so sexy! :) Plus it makes it a lot easier to clean/wipe out with no carpet!

LOL billy I hate you (because I want a diseil) but nice truck seriously, I love PS for the fact they are a awesome powerhouse for work trucks, Come on my bro owned 4 7.3's. And they made money for him like crazy. Alot had to do with Ford's frame flex and leafs in front

But I still got to give it up to Dodge's Cummins. It's sound is like Butter.

Ha Duramax, duder don't make me laugh. Me and bro went down to Monroe in IL to test out there Chevy 5500 Landscape rig, To put a long story short (yeah its gearing) but I could get out and walk faster when it was in reverse, Bad for plowing, thus he spent the extra for the Peterbilt.

Personal note I spec out his trucks, it was either a Dodge or Ford depending on what job he wanted it to do. And it came down to this, and to make it short.

Ford Powerstroke F350/450/550 7.3L (6.0L soon) - Everyday workers i.e. Dumps, Medium/Part time heavy pull's for landscape and commerical cutting, Plowing and salting commerical accounts, Chipper boxes.

Dodge Cummins/1500 5.9L - Speciality/light pull i.e Bucket Trucks, Flatbeds, Spraying, Bed Maintance, and resdential cutting/landscape accounts, plowing and salting resdential accounts, also sidewalk crew

Peterbilt - The one single axle Dump was scheduled for Mulch/Dirt/Stone/Gravel/TB dropoff and Fall clean ups, Heavy pull for Municpal cutting accounts, Heavy landscape jobs.

Just picked up the SRT 8 tonight. My god....it's amazing.

Within minutes, I had the Nav radio linked to my RAZR and I was making phone calls just through voice command. The backup camera system is a riot to use, and it handles like a race car. Truely an amazing vehicle. Remote start is fun too, while signing papers in the dealership I hit the remote start button and scared some dude who was gawking at it. I've named it "The Sled" and when it roared to life, the guy hopped back and loooked around >_> <_<

Horray for night time pics. Sorry for the darkness, my Speedlight hasen't come in yet for my XTi

It has enough power and speed to maybe accomidate the 180 mph speedomter its sporting....
Its the Rolls Royce of Jeeps for sure, if your into that sort of thing.

But, it has the price tag to go with it, I'm sure you'll have a very pimp group of people oogling your ride.

but, sadly it wouldn't get my vote...if my vote counted for something!

AND it would be slower...AND I wouldn't be able to carry my paintball gear...AND the vette is not All Wheel Drive, AND the vette wouldn't have come with rear DVD entertainment....Brembo brakes.....UConnect voice activated bluetooth phone integration.....etc.

So no, I wouldn't buy a Vette. Besides, my 2006 Z06 suites me just fine for the weekends. :D

It's the price of exclusivity, sure enough. They only make 3,300 of them a year. Personally, I feel it's a very understated look. Powerful and bold, but not very "blingy". And the price tag = a phenomenal value if you ask me. You will not find a vehicle of similar performance, luxury, and techno-features in the price range of my sled.

Electronic, intelligent, all wheel drive system. 99% of the time, it sends 90% torque to the rear, 10% to the front. However, it can send 100% to the front or rear if needed, or any split in between.

It is just a 2x4 piece of box tubing 54 inches long and we cut slices out of the ends of it using a torch and bent up the bottom to give it the angle. We had started off using the milling machine but it was taking forever so we used the torch instead. Then my teacher welded em together, and welded the clevis mounts front and back and yup. welded on the tabs to mount. Spraypainted black and thats about it. My teacher did a lot of the work but I did try to do as much as i could....hehe Im not THAT good. Had i done it by myself it wouldve turned out looking like god knows what. ;)

Thanks though :D

GAH! Brainfart! Sorry guys, I've been out of it recently. Anyway, as of 3 days ago, entering is closed, and judges need to send in their votes now. Thanks!

Remember: I'll ask the judges to send in their top 5 picks, based on (hypothetically) performance and appearance via PM. Then, after I get all the judges picks, I'll average the top results and post the top 5 winners. Then open judging will be held by the members of AO until the end of the month, probably in a poll this time.

Actually there's not a single truck posted there... Technically I consider a truck to be a one ton or larger.

How many other categories are there before we get back to trucks again? Cars, motorcycles, and maybe an "other" category again?

Maybe by the time we get back to trucks we'll have our service truck painted and stocked with tools! :D

You musta missed my link. I decided not to go list the thing because, as you point out... it was the only "truck" and did not belong in this sort of category which appears to realy have been light trucks and SUV's....

But now that its over I will attempt to mention it:

I just don't think I can bother to list all the modifications... X Monitor, CB and Ham Radios, Compass,Temp and Auto dim mirror, DVD and powered Video Display, auxilliary Coolant filtrations, Towing package, specialy built transmisson, Extra fuel tank with pump, front and rear tow receivers, Auxiliary lighting including strobes, 4:10 rear end with Limited Slip... yada yada...

In other words, a highway towing machine. A Truck.

This thing once went from Clemson SC all the way to AGD offices in Chicago on one main tank full of Fuel. Before the auxilliary tank was put on....
