If you like playing in all weather, you know that the worst thing about foul weather, rain and snow, is moisture in your barrel. Water makes the paint swell and fly in all crazy directions. Everywhere but where you want it.

Here is a quick tip to make your barrel water tight.

Go to your local hardware store and bring the ported section of your barrel if it is a two piece and the whole barrel if it is a one piece.

In the plumbing aisle look for clear flexible hose. Get a few feet of the hose that fits the barrel, you want a size that is a little bigger than the barrel.

Now look around for the tube your barrel came in, if you don't have it check your local paintball store (they usually have lots of extras). There should be two rubber caps on it. Those will be the ends of the barrel cover.

Take one and make a small X slice in the middle with a razor then take sharp scissors and make the opening round. The size of the hole should be just a little smaller than the size of the tip of the barrel. Take the second cap and make a larger X and again cut the opening round. This one should be a little smaller than the base of the barrel. Now take your clear hose and cut it using a razor or shears the length of the ported section of the barrel, you don't need the cuts perfect. Then take the two caps and fit them on the clear hose. You now have your all weather porting cover. Push it down over the barrel and go play in the rain or snow.

If you have a Freak barrel with All American Tips I have done the work for you. Get 1 1/4" hose with an inside diameter of 1".

And before you say it, yes you can just use tape to cover the ports, but this is a no mar way to keep water out.

Here are the pics:

Let me know what you think and if you make one let me know the size of hose you use and we can make a list here of sizes.

Freak AA Tip: 1 1/4" Hose with 1" inside diameter

i would think it would make it louder. no more porting.

edit: this is what we use when playing in the rain

Umm, paint is the last thing im worried about when playing in the rain..you can cover your ports all day,but that doesnt make you wireing water tight. Also..the paint will swell from humidity anyways....

Or just use the tube the barrel comes in alot of times.

nice call though. ... I was looking for something to use this gross of 1 1/2 " tubing . lol
And as for the quieting thing...it does a bit..but the marker will make a fart sound when the air trys to slip by the rubber caps.

actualy, ive played in the rain a few times all day, and it hasnt done anything to the gun. just got a little soggy, and paint covered. i dont really think that unless you submerge your gun it will do much damage, but then again i could have just gotten lucky.

i would think it would make it louder. no more porting. There are other kind of "rain covers" that do make the marker report quieter, which are very similar to this design. They're called "rain covers" since people notice when you use the S word when talking about a device which can make your marker report a little more Silent ;)

Any of the high end gun boards are coated, so a little rain will not keep you out of the game. But water in your barrel will.

And my cover does not act as a silencer, quite contrary. It is a loudner :)

And I have no issues with the rubber caps burping or coming off with the escaping air.

I made the rubber one because the original one I had made out of the gun barrel tubes annoyed me as it bounced around on the barrel.

If you haven't had problems with water seeping into the barrel through the barrel due to rain, it didn't really rain :D

A couple of years ago every single tournament was rainy here in Sweden, to the point that you almost didn't want to remove the electrical tape from the porting. This is a lot better solution though

I've made a few "rain covers" before, they work great in the desert .

Sound absorbing foam is surprsingly good for "water proofing" you barrel ;)
