I recently purchased a Tac-One, and one thing I'd like to add is a barrel kit. I'm leaning towards the J&J Edge kit, but I'm wondering what size I have now and if it is compatible with the Edge Kit. For instance, I wouldn't want two of the same fronts, so I need to know if the front I have now will thread to the control bore backs in the kit.

Also, I'm not entirely sure what size I have. J&J lists a 10", 12", and 14". I've also seen an 8" and 16" on a few online stores (but they don't seem to be listed on J&J's website: http://www.jjperformance.com/main.html

For reference, here are some picts of what came with my TAC:

As you can see, the overall length is close to 11.5". Are barrels not measured from end to end, or is there some other method?

Thanks in advance.

I honestly would not get the Edge. I had a full kit for some time, couple yrs ago, but was not really impressed by it.

Hmmm, I've been researching for the past day or so, and it seems everyone who's had one is very pleased (but it seems that way for nearly all of the kits out there, so pick your poison I suppose.) I was pleased with the simple two-piece stock J&J, and was thinking the Edge kit would do nicely since I'd already have one length tip.

But I've been running a Sly Stealth Kit on it for the last 2 yrs. Didn't have half the breaks I had whilst running an Edge. I've noticed the Sly to clean through breaks better as well.

The Scepter is also one helluva kit. Had an original kit when they came out. Quite good. Tunaman swears by them as well ;)

I've heard a lot of good things about the Scepter as well. The Sly looks to only have a ~2" control bore vs. the J&J 5" (and the Scepter seems long as well.) I would think that short length wouldn't do much for you.

I was also considering price. The Edge Elite can be had for ~$95, which includes 5 backs and 3 tips. The Sly runs ~$85 just for 4 backs, then another $85 for the barrel. The Scepter can be had for ~$130 with 7 backs and a single tip.

I have a Edge Kit for my A-5 and I have the stock barrel for my E-Tac ...

I know that the tip will screw into the backs of a CCM Barrel ... I think you'll be able to screw the Stock tip into the Edge backs with no problem.

And the Tip for a Mag IS different in looks to the Edge Tips ...

Sammy,

I bought the same setup as you and due to the paint available to me to shoot on the east coast, wasn't impressed by the J&J barrel performance. I couldn't find the larger bore paint for the barrel and it was quite apparent the first time I took it out for a field test drive, my paint to bore mismatch. I primarily play woodsball and don't feel a need to buy a Freak kit to accomodate my style of play. Since then, I bought a 2 piece dye 12" boomstick shooting diablo paint and I am seeing the performance of the automag with this particular barrel match, consistently. I've used OtterSC Customs Website (http://www.ottersccustoms.com/barrelc.html) for reference about barrel and paintball bore sizes.
