Well, I got bored and did some design work. It's not up to any kind of AGD specs, but it gives an idea of what I was going for. If anyone has any good ideas on paper, feel free to post them here and I may take a wack at them. Also, any feedback is appreciated as well. Enjoy......

Funny - I was thinking the same thing about this one, obviously. Believe me, I am all for new body designs, and maybe it's just me on this one...

In my opinion, maybe elongating the "sculpturing" might help the questionable origins of the inspiration of your design.

Either way, it's good to see somebody venture some designs for a new mag body.

it looks organic and has that kind of feel to it, but the way you had the shapes flow is a little too smooth and makes it seem off.

On first glance it looks like some sort of carapace, but after looking closer it looks more like patterned dunes since it flows together so well. Personally, I'd prefer the carapace look... but as it stands, it is a pretty nifty design.

jk man. Looks pretty wicked actually, all by itself it looks kinda.. well familiar.. but mounted on a marker it would look nuts.

I use Maya, but I'm trying to learn a CAD program. I definately need to start out with a AGD spec model and move from there.

when you say "take a wack at them" do you mean you'll try to design it, or can you actually mill them?

I mean just design it. I don't have any kind of experience with metal working. And don't have the space/tools/time to try it any time soon.

I thought people wouldn't be into the too "organic" look it has. When I was working on it I kept thinking about insect legs for some reason. I'm working on something that's a totally different direction and will post some images at one point.

Oh, and I had a much more "organic" design that I put a "flesh" type of looking finish on it. I called it "Meatsicle"..........

It looks.... pretty natural flowing, nice work, not my style but nice work.

It reminds me of you know those commercials with the caramel pouring in a straight line and it makes folds like that?

You could make, the first caramel Mag ever haha, watch people chasing after you to take a bite out of it.

Don Carnage
03-19-2007, 10:03 PM
I like it. It'll look a little different with a feedneck and the detents.

If you sharpened up some of the edges, you could keep the organic feel, but make it look more like armor plates like on an insect or something. That could be pretty cool.

As was mentioned, we really wont know until you have it on a matching style rail.

I say keep going with the 'Dune Worm' approach. Maybe make the front like the 3-sided mouth. You could give it a Duneish name like 'The Arrakis' or 'The Fremen'

'The Kwisatz Haderach' might be too big of a mouthful though :)

Thanks for the compliment.

I moved onto a different design today. Not as organic, but has some "flow" to parts of it. I think this design could work with a Thrasher rail. I'll get around to making matching rails for the body designs at one point.

That second design is killer!
It's really cool to see all these people that are taking the evolution of the mag into their own hand (with the pneu's, Cerberus, this, and the slug revival lead by Rogue).
I just picked up an emag, and with the slug (hopefully) coming back, I really need to start saving for some upgrades.
Keep up the great work.

Put the other gun details on there to get a real idea of how it would look. Designing a body in a vacuum is trivial. Making one look good with the rest of the parts is more of a challenge.

the first one looks too organic for me to be on a a gun. I know that people always say "it's not a gun" and I'm one of the proponents that say it should be referred to as marker, but there's still a certain...atitude...that I think needs to be there. It's why people don't like bodies like the triumph because they look like a toy hahaha. IF it's too organic, it doesn't look right with a barrel and trigger on it to me.

The second one looks like a cleaner version of the dynasty shocker body to me haha. It's not bad, but somehow still not my flavor. Good stuff heh, if I get around to penciling some ideas I'll send them your way.

Did something new. This design was inspired by my neighbors Cadillac. I was thinking about calling it "Pimp Mag", or something. I realize that design may run into problems with grip frame screw placement because of the "wheel wells", but come on, it's a design after all ;) .

I've considered putting in some minor groves to better indicate where the door panels would start and end, adding some type of "head light" details on the side of the front most part of the gun body, and dropping the rear "trunk" area down lower between the fins so that the top of the valve is exposed.

I definately want to clean up the front and end of the rail and get away from the flat surface I have now. I figured this could be a "pimp-ride" design with purple/gold body/trim. Plus you could always laser engrave the Cadillac symbol on the top of the "hood" and add a little license plate on the front of the rail with something on it.........

Just thinking........Let me know what you think. It's definately different from my previous designs. Enjoy :D

PLEASE IGNORE THE HIDEOUS GRIPFRAME! I was running out of steam by the time I got to it......

I came up with something new today. Thanna suggested something with scales a little while ago. I got an idea for a "Gator Mag" today for some reason. I've been working on this for a little while, but I need some suggestions as how to finish it up.

I need to work on the area around the feedneck so it is incorporated into the body better. I'll probably flatten that area out, or conform the scales around it to the shape of the feedneck. I'm also going to move the scale across the top so there is a little curve to the "back" of the gator and work on a matching rail of some sorts.

What do you guys think I should do for the rear of the body? Basically, everything behind the feedneck. I've thought about some form of tail or tails. One big one that runs along the top of the valve leaving the sides exposed. Or several that flow from the rows of scales and wrap along the valve like the Karta ridges, but different ;)

If anyone is motivated enough to download an image I've posted and Photoshop something up, I would appreciate it. I tend to be pretty creative when I start out, but after hours of staring at points and lines I get a little :tard:

Any suggestions/feedback is greatly appreciated. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the CAD thing, but it's a different way of working so it will be a while before I can actually make anything that may be useable by anyone. These are just designs for the time being and are by no means completely in AGD spec.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks Phizz!

I came up with some new stuff between twelve and one AM this morning (?). Keep in mind these aren't actually modeled in 3D yet. These have been done using textures and patterns I made and applied as bump maps to the geo shader. If you look at the edge of the body profile you will see that it is still perfectly flat. This is because the bump maps fake the 3D shape in the body. The leading and rear most faces of the body are still flat like on the slug body, but I figured any of the designs could have the front or rear of the slug body milled to match the flow of the patterns in some way.

Let me know what you think. I'm debating which design to execute in 3D, because some of these designs are MUCH more intensive than my previous ones, even the GatorMag.

My favorites so far are the first and third images.........

Try this: On the Gator design, top pic, as seen from the back, carry the ridge design that you have at the back all the way to the front. Maybe even having the ridges fade down to slight points at the barrel end.

I like the back part of the gator design, but the front would be a ***** to clean on a gun hit.

are all these going to be for E-mags? i know you're just in the design stage, but I for one would love to see some of these available some day. (especially since I got a sluggo body on the way now) are you gonna design rails too? I would love to have some of these designs on my RT Pro.

on the gator mag....I pretty much love it right now. I think the head should look even more like a real gator head. my idea is to make it look like you had a ule'd body, with all the excess meat cut away, with an alligator crawling on it. the tail could come all the way back on top of the valve. just thinking.

did I mention the bodies look great? I especially like the ones with the swirly type designs carved in them. :hail:
