I don't even know what that slang means. Good thing it is illegal for me to use it.

If anybody would like to translate the above mentioned slang I am curious.

"pwnd" came from "owned" which basically came from "to own".

Long story short, it all means that you got beat. Most of the time it means you got beat pretty badly. All in all its just another slang term that leads kids into thinking that kicking teh snot out of someone is far cooler than having respect for.....well, anything.

j00=you
leet=elite

Eg: I pwnd j00 cause im a leet haxor."

Also known as stupidity.

Wow, they have transcended the barriers of social grouping. They have stolen something that originated out of the internet/gamer community. Thanks SP for ruining a part of my life completely unrelated to paintball. :cuss:

but now everytime you use the word...you owe sp 50 bucks. :p

Wow, SP really has no ethics as a company do they? I can understand copyrighting material, titles or names but slang? Especially slang that has been around for several years now.

not only did they not start those slang words but they arent even used very often for merchandising. this was a pretty pointless copyright.

Ninjeff
03-23-2007, 07:56 PM
where did it say the copyrighted anything? You cant copyright words...or "slogans" as it were. You can trademark them though.

Trademarked not copy right. The logo is exclusively theirs although you can use those words in speach, written or whatever as copyright goes to whoever "coined" the term.

I heard that they were going to try and patent the english language also since its not patented at the moment and also autonomous breathing so that every time you take a breath you owe them a buck.

wouldn't the creators of "warcraft" own "pwned"?

I mean, they started it, and the word has been an internet commonality for like a decade. Same with leet.

Sadly, there is not a smiley on any forum that can depict how I feel about Smart Parts.

lol, wow, a lot of you are getting way to worked up over this. Anyone else can still use terms like that, SP doesnt own the word/phrase or anything. They are just using it and thats it. I admit im not a fan of SP but please STFU with this stuff already. Not everything they do is evil (their ad for example) and most of you just jump to conclusions w/o knowing anything about what your saying.

It is done within an industry. For example, FEP can trademark the name Quest when it is related to paintball. Nissan can trademark the name Quest when it is related to the auto industry.

Kinda silly, but why not...

Almost makes me wanna go out and start using the silly little slang terms just to see if I can draw fire from SP's cadre of lawyers. Almost. We do have to maintain standards, after all.

Does anybody remember SP's ad campaign that came out right after they acquired Dynasty? Dynasty had been on this big roll, winning bloody everything, SP picks 'em up and starts touting all of D's championships in their ads... all of them won with someone else's marker and equipment.

I saw this in the latest issue of Paintball Sports Mag. I didn't quite catch on to the trademark, but I specifically remember that advertisement.

03-24-2007, 11:36 AM
That is saying that they are trademarking it, meaning another company would not be able to use it in reference to paintball. I would like to say this continues to show they are an evil company, but it is a better example of them being nincompoops.

No, as that would be prior art for a patent. This is a trademark.

I was unsure and concerned that a third party reader would not understand the difference. Trademarks are interesting, in that the company must defend them and use them or else they can be lost. So, Smart Parts is required to enforce their trademark if they wish to keep it.

Ben - I dont like smart parts much at all. Just because i stick up for them over stupid crap like this doesnt mean anything. Yes i did own an ion and loved it but there wasnt a part on it that was SP (which is prob why it worked amazingly).

Honestly, it's because SP is head over heels rich and can throw dollars at anything they want. Any publicity is good publicity to them.

the funny thing is that SP will start loosing business in a few years when their current crowd finds something they like better, or when the agglets latch onto another team with a 'better' brand.

then the Gardener brothers will keep sueing until they run out of people or money to sue.

christ, the only thing original they have done in paintball is to sue *everyone*. too bad they don't have a patent on that....
