No real reason for a thread, just from the batch of photos a friend of mine scanned today. I thought this one turned out well. That's on the bank of the Imjin River in South Korea at the far shore of a floating bridge that his unit was tasked with building. The fog is from smoke generators set up by Chem Corps units in his Division.

Here's a North Korean soldier. He unbuttoned his holster when he walked up to that post.

Here's a photo of the first large cloud blowing across the bridge. You can see the difference between the left and right side of the photo.

Here's a Chinook flying by during an slingload operation he did with an Aviation unit. They'd drop the bridge bays into the water, then they'd go retrieve them, rather than delivering them by truck as usual.

Another Chinook. The water spray they drive up stings like hell when it hits your face, damn near blinds you.

Some more DMZ photos. You can spot our NorK buddies lurking around the left building in that photo.

Another view of the Joint Security Area. Blue buildings are South-controlled, gray buildings are North-controlled.

The Bridge of No Return. The site of prisoner transfers from 1953 until the late 60's.

A Mk19 pit he lived in for a few days. He said he never understood why he kept getting Mk19 guard while he had the M203. He was in that pit for 18 hours that day before someone came to relieve him to go grab some chow. He kept stopping RoK patrols and asking for food. Fortunately the RoK soldiers he met were pretty friendly and generous with the little they had. Gave him some more water and hardtack. Better than nothing.

They were all posted like that, halfway around the edge of the buildings, locked up and facing the North. Made them look a lot more professional than the North Koreans that were just wandering around.

They stand half way exposed so they present a smaller target to the north. I got to go to the DMZ in the end of 2005.
