when should i change my spring

i just bought a new spring for my mag and i dont know when i should put the new one in. the old spring i about 1 centimeter shorter then the old one and the old spring doesnt have to gold color anymore.thanks i could really use some help

when the old spring is the same length/shorter than your bolt.
