Ok, a friend of mine who no longer plays gave me this Mag. As far as I can tell, it's a pro-team products 68 Automag. There are no, and never were any stars on the valve. It has an Air America expansion chamber. The gun has never fired for me. When it is pressured up, it cocks, but then will not fire. I have disasembled it as far as i can, but the regulator and valve are hyper-tightened and i have not yet been able to seperate them. There appears to be some sort of non-conventional on/off valve assembly, the bolt is not stock (it's some sort of venturi), and neither is the powertube spring (little blue thing).

I have two questions,

1) is the body any good?

2) any advice on getting the valve working?

Thanks. Pics below.

well it looks like you have some clean up work in front of you also you need a rebuild kit http://store.airgun.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=catalog.prodInfo&productID=7&categoryID=18
those oring look pretty discolored. As far as getting the valve halves apart a couple of strap wrench is the best way, but if you dont have that using a vice and channel locks work you just need to put something around the valve to protect it like an old unused mouse pad . The on/off from that valve looks like and old reactor valve, they worked ok but were kinda of a pain if you take you valve out of the gun alot as the top piece wants to fall out and hide .

The body you have is a Micromag body. It will accept any Autococker threaded barrels, so yes, the body is good, I'd say.

Pro-Team Venturi bolt and a Pro-Team spacer is what that looks like to me.

I love my micromag body, so yes its good.

As far as getting the valve going try increasing the pressure, 1/8 allen key in the back of the valve and crank it down. you could also try a smaller spring but it looks like you only have one. Another problem may be the length of your sear pin, it looks a little short to me, but hard to tell the distance from the trigger to the pin should be about 1/16 of an inch (when aired up) if I remember correctly. Also don't forget the oil :)

That's an old PTP body. You probably need a short on-off pin for it to work properly. Try a 0.675" pin length.
