would gutting an ego frame give you the right amount of space to add the necessary pneumatics because i heard that the mounting holes on mags and ego are the same.
has anyone done this

The best frame for a pneumag is either the Intelli frame or the RPG Chimera they required no clearancing to get the ram in. Only about a 1/4" wide strip filed on each side of the ram.

The Ego frame will require clearancing and the ram filing to fit. As previously mentioned the Ego mounting holes DO NOT line up with the mag rail so additional drilling will be necessary as well.

I have made 4 Pneumags and 3 Emaggos. So I know what I am talking about.

The easiest one was the RPG Chimera basically because even the Intelli will require filing and / or cutting of the center to make room for the 3 way valve. Here is a picture of an Intelli pneumag frame that I have for sale to give you an idea of what I mean. I have included the only picture of an Intelli frame without grips I could find to try and show the center piece that will need to either be filed or removed.

what exactly do you mean about clearancing the ram, like cutting out part of the frame?

Basically yes.

The frame will need to be filed, machined or gound on the inside to make room for the ram. The ram will also need to be filed a little on the sides. This serves two purposes. One to make the ram fit easier and two, to give a flat surface for the set screws to land to help hold the ram into place.
