View Full Version : Considering a production version of the Machado rail...

RogueFactor

Ive been asked over the last few years to do a Machado rail. I have always considered it, but shelved the idea. I had always hoped Tyson Machado would return to AO and continue with his one-of-a-kind creations. I got a few requests recently a few months ago, and gave it some more thought, but shelved the idea once again.

But, after talking to a fellow AO'er who has one, Ive been convinced to do them(as he would put it, for the "good of the community").

Is there an interest in such a rail?

I like the rail in the link No eye strain (http://automags.org/forums/showthread.php?t=103196&highlight=Machado) more than the one on here. Flows like liquid and is more comforting to the eyes.

I think alot of people can "do it right" based on kick butt products coming out from everyone, but anyways, ill sign up for two of those rails.
?
am/mm length or emag/rtp

I liked that one too. It does have a bit better flow.

To all those that asked about price. At this point, its impossible to say. Shouldnt be more expensive than any other rail though, if that gives you all an idea.

Ive always preferred machining them from AGD rails, so they will be AM/MM length. Machining them from AGD rail guarantees they are to AGD specs. :D

I'm interested in one Rogue! I think they look great on Xmagterrors' new bodies!

These AGD rails you mention, are they just AM/MM rails that you will mill, or are they AM/MM rail slugs? Just curious.........

Keep us updated as things progress

I think he is wondering if you have a supplier of slug rails. Ie will you sell just the rail (for karta/etc bodies)

Karta rails arent made from AM/MM rails.

They would be machined from AGD rails, so my supplier is AGD. ;)

AM/MM rails do not work on e-mags, they use a different sear.

Yo Tyson! Where ya been bud? Give us some details, why dont ya!?!

I've started an engineering career, bought a house, and had two kids since the last time I carved anything. I haven't even had a chance to play in almost four years! Once in a while I check out AO just to see what's up. I still have all my gear. I'll get back into the sport, and custom work, eventually. I won't hijack your thread with too many details ;)

I'm surprised and flattered that there's still enough demand that you'd consider a production run of the sharktooth. If you decide to go ahead with it I'm sure they'll come out well.

Hard to say, because the ULE Tac rail is cut from a RT rail. The Machado rail is cut from an Automag/MiniMag rail.

Its also about how much material can be removed. The AGD ULE Tac rail was about removing as much material as possible. Which is why its not too good looking. Aesthetic designs require more material to carve from, and will be inherently heavier.

Are you doing the run in the near future Rogue?

Edit: Rogue,... ur PM box is full AND your email address keeps bouncing my replies back.

I got lots on my plate at the moment. Working on the Triton frame, the shirts, and on replenishing stock of items right now. The machado rail is also in the works, its just further down the list than the other higher priority items right now.

tysonmachado - ahhh the good old days. long time no see, still regret selling the rails you did for me a while back. do you still have pics of the frame and matching metal panels? good to see your work around and that it might resurface.

p.s. if you do have one, its definately hand made, but the time he took to hand carve and polish them was worth it.
