Has anyone converted their Emag to run off a rechargable lithium battery pack? Plenty of variations are made for R/C hobbies, and it seems like it would save some weight, and whatnot...

Just curious if it's been done

If you search around you will find a few threads on the subject. Various issues with different recharg. batt. i.e. discharge rates and "memory".

Lipos aren't supopsed to suffere memory problems like NiMH or NiCads... Thanks, I'll look around

I did it like this (just to see if it would work):

1. An 11.1v 3cell 850 mAh lipo battery with PCM- 1.94 oz.: http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2463
2. An S-15-75-24 9v replacement Emag solenoid from Solenoid City: http://www.electromechanicsonline.com/products/SOTUL019038.asp
3. Re-wire, JST connectors, on/off switch.
4. A Predator Morlock board.

This conversion works great and saves considerable weight. The cautionary statement here is that lipo battery fires can be quite explosive. With the addition of HPA I would think that the situation could get out of hand quickly. These batteries require extra care and caution. For that reason I cannot recommend them because I don't want to be held responsible for someone else blowing themselves up. :)

Thats ironic i was thinking of exactly the same thing minus the warlock board. :p
How does the 9V solenoid keep up, how are the currents?
I was going to use my stock Emag board and replace the solenoid FET with a higher current one.

pardon the necropost here, but i was looking to do the exact same thing with the 9volt on my stock board

would this work or is there a built in type of current or limiter that requires you to use a UTB or a morlock board.

If i can use the 9v solenoid, is it any lighter? will it still be able to keep up with 30bps on electro mode?

let me know because i have a great idea for making my marker even lighter!
