Well, today I was fishing through my old gear

Finally found one of my lost mags, it had one of those newfangled (a long time ago) eclipse rails and sight rail and matching regulator! Are they still around? I wonder if I could sell the thing...or should I keep it?

Hmm.. depends on the color. If it's splashed blue, then you should definitely get rid of it!

dibs!

Seriously though, they're hard to find esp. if you have a complete kit. Does it include the powerfeed plug and/or ASA?
It's more popular with the "old school" crowd. If you posted it up, you'd probably get a few offers.

You might just want to start a new thread in the B/S/T forum.. pics would help too.

I dunno if you can use emag lowers w/ the rail. I don't think it's long enough. They were originally used with the AM/MM, before the RT was even conceived.

Ooh.. if only I wasn't going for the whole sleek-modern-ULE-look.
That blue kit is stunning!
(sorry, the green is great too, but I am heavily biased towards blue)
:p

Unfortunately I can't afford to have two mags.. I'm still trying to sell off my old parts to pay for all the upgrades I've been buying.

Your missing the tourney lock and the trigger frame as well, so your kit is only about 80% complete.

That would be an Air America Whispering Death Expansion Chamber.

I have the tourney lock but was un aware that there was a matching eclipse trigger frame as I have had many an eclipse body kit yet never a trigger frame, I have had triggers that match but still had no Idea that Eclipse made or annoed matching trigger frame...Hmmm I'll have to check in to that...

there were a few differnt levels. there was a starter kit and an advanced kit that had a foregrip and trigger frame in it, and the kits contents i think varied over the years. there was also a true Eclipse mag that had the full eclipse parts on it. plus you could get individual parts, and a lot of non mag specific parts came from the eclipse spyders, cocker and smart parts lines.

Now, anyone have a Banzai green duckbill asa they can spare, i need one for my project?

Does the Smart Parts splash kit = Eclipse splash kit?

From seeing a few pics on this forum, some of the splash rails have an "eclipse" label and are milled differently whereas a SP kit looks like a splash anodized AM/MM rail.

There is a difference between the SP and PE kits. I believe i have a PE one coming and the rail has some slight milling unlike the splashed one posted in thsi thread.

The kits vary, but the foregrips, body rails, sight rails, powerfeed plugs and tourney locks are all different designs.

I helped a fellow Magger on the Nation, I'll copy and paste the info on the different parts here:

Smart Parts kit;

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/6945/dsc00129jl2.jpg

See the shape of the foregrip under the barrel (disregard the barrel, its a custom threaded barrel for a Freak, not offered back in the Splash days). Also note the smoothness of the AM rail.

Eclipse kit:

http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/30/dsc00126rstl0.jpg

Note the difference in the foregrip milling and the milling on the AM rail, also the sight rail has an Eclipse bubble logo on it.

Here is a better pic of the detail in the Eclipse kit:

Notice the milling on the back of the rail ? Also, the short notch milled in the sight rail, compared to the long notch in the Smart Parts sight rail:

http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/5246/magbk3.jpg

Power feed plugs were also different. The Eclipse version looked like a standard plug whereas the Smart Parts version was missing the tab (pain in the arse to turn too)

Eclipse Power Feed plug.......:

compared to a Smart Parts Power Feed plug:

Lastly, the Tourney Locks shape were also different:

Eclipse version:

Smart Parts version:

Sorry Arron, your correct, Eclipse didn't have a trigger frame (to my knowledge) Smart Parts did.

Interesting... I wonder which kit is more rare?

It's too bad 'splash' went out of style.. I still really like it. I wish all these ULE components were available with splash anno. Of course, I could probably have it done but that'd probably cost a bit.

Actually, the trigger frames and barrels in matching kits are pretty rare, but the matching gas thru stocks (both companies had them) and the matching 20 oz tanks are the rarest pieces. A dude in the sept motm contest has the first splashed 20 oz I have seen in years.

so much good splashness. I hadn't relized the sp and eclipse kits were differnt, i had always thought they were the same. interesting. Besides eclipse and sp though, there were other companies that offered splash parts as well

Thats correct, Arons is mostly a Smart Parts kit, with an Eclipse sight rail. The Eclipse body rail also had a bubble logo on it:

However, Aron's is still a nice looking piece with all the parts matching in color. Building a Splash Mag with all matching parts these days is tough to do.

WOW no Idea I had a Hybrid matching kit from 2 different compaines I have the SP Barrel, Rail, EX Chamber, and ASA with the Eclipse Site Rail, PF Plug, and Tourney Lock man that is kind of an interesting kick in the Arse but hey it all matches and looks great so I can't really complain right?

I guess I didn't realize it was so hot to have a matching tank but for those that enjoy that sort of thing here is my Sterling straight up old school style and if you are asking No I am not getting rid of it sorry...

Looks good to me, but even though there are some differences in the kits, the colors were all the same between both companies. Eclipse sold them first, SP distributed them here in the states, then designed their own versions. Also, the Splash kits sold on PBGear.com back in the day, were mixed parts kits, some had pieces from both manufacturer's mixed in the kits.

Eclipse, to my knowledge, didnt offer trigger frames or barrels, those were solely provided by SP. However, since SP distributed the Eclipse kits, I assume thats how the barrels were included, so SP would get a piece of the pie until they came out with their own kit.

I was mainly refering to the Splash kits for Mags, since SP had an ultimate kit that offered a Splashed Smart remote and a matching gas thru stock or a vert mounted Exp chamber with a 20 oz tank color matched to the Splash kit.

I realized this but I figured since SP is so big in the UK and all as well as Arrow Precision and the sterling that I felt the need to post my Sterling with SP grips and set up for Old school times hence the reason I had everything annoed to match in a very old paint stroke style, it was mearly eye candy for the public and the old schoolers but if its a splashed mag you want then here was my old Eclipse mag with Deluxe kit 100% complete with packaging...

Thats a gorgeous Mag Aron. Very well kept. I thought about keeping mine, having the rail ULE'd, adding a ULE body, separating the AA front from the back and having it threaded to fit a Freak back, then purchasing a ULE'd Intelli frame, having it splash anodized to match and then sending it out to be pnuemagged, but figured the expense of it all wouldn't be worth it.
