I just got my new RAM. Thanks to those who assisted in answering my questions in the prior thread :hail: . I got OCZ PC2-6400. Now I have a new question... should I add to or replace my existing RAM?

New RAM:

2GB, OCZ PC2-6400 (DDR2 800)

Old Ram:

512MB, Samsung/Dell PC2-3200 (DDR2 400)

My mobo will only support up to 533MHz, so the OCZ RAM just scales back to that speed. Basically my question is, is it better to have 2GB @ 533 MHz, 2.5GB @ 400MHz?

Thanks,

Nick

definitely replace.

ram operates at the weakest link, so you would be basically putting in the same crappy ram you have now if you mix it.

mixing ram = usually a bad idea

That is what I figured and what I ended up doing. I also tried booting it up w/ it mixed and it worked fine too. I just was not sure whether the extra 512MB was worth the 133MHz frequency drop.

Thanks for the speedy answer.

Yeah if you put both in it would only recogniz the 512... You have to have all of the same thing in it.
