I am sure most of you know who i am by now. I am the guy that made the ripper bodies and i have proved myself on being able to do it without problems.

I took a couple of months off to build a twin turbo system for my neighbors Z06 corvette...got that done and not its time to get back to the custom automag body project.

I jut bought a renishaw digitizing package for the mill.......this means bodys and rails can be carved out of wood, digitized and then cut the design on a slug or rail. The cool part of this process is only one half of the body needs to be carved and the other side can be mirror imaged. being able to digitize a body is going to be nice because it will get me away from time consuming CAD software.

If anybody is good at carving wood then this could be a good project for you. come up with a great design and carve one side of the body out of wood and i will give you a free body plus you get to be famous on AO!!!LOL If anybody has any cool design ideas draw them up and post them on this thread. maybe we can find someone to carve them out of wood so we can make bodies.

I want all of you on AO to have a say in the next body design...You all now what you dont want when it comes to bodies....now is your time to voice out so i can hear what you do want.

yup :headbang:

While I do like the organic stuff some members have been coming up with, Id like to see a little more "techy" design on the block. Maybe even a different tac body. Something with a modular base body that could accept X7 mods.

will this new body come finished/polished?

Xmagterror
11-11-2007, 10:06 AM
new body designs will not be sold at the same price as the current ripper *SALE* prices. I had the ripper sale to pay off the tooling that i bought for the slug project. $275-300 range is whats to be expected because it takes 7 hours to 3D mill a body...normal rate on a machine like mine is 60 an hour. If you do the math these bodies are a good deal. On top of all the machine time there is design and testing time. Its take a huge amount of work to make a custom body design, program it and then optimize the programs.

Xmagterror

finishing is best left to your anodizer of choice. I may do a batch of gloss black bodies because most of the guns out there are black.

I remember a lion head body from another thread like this. It had the barrel coming out of the lion's mouth and the mane flowing back towards the valve. I'm pretty sure that would be flippin sweet. What do you think?

ill try my hand at a design but im no artist and im not sure of the specs on the body. ill be drawing a few and im sure someone on here would be able to take the design and fit it to a slug.

I would subscribe but im not getting an notifications from AO yet.

I thought something like this was already being done by PTP with the PTP MicroMag Design Concepts (http://www.automags.org/forums/showthread.php?t=220609) thread?

And they said they would be staying under $200.

the more bodies the merrier. Besides PTP has had thier design in mind with some alterations from us, this is a chance to be totoally original.

I would have thought Voltron was a classic series by then! :p

The only thing I really DONT like about the lion design is that it will require a serious ano job to look good. Lots of masking, multiple colors, laser etching. Although it would be PERFECT for powercoat.

I'll draw up a design. I don't have any CAD programs though, so it's gonna be old-school (read: pencil and paper).

Guess I'm too old. The Voltron thing totally missed me too... :D

I like the art deco look of the lion head body or the simple mech look of the original post showing the pink body. The blue (Voltron?) body leaves me cold. It's nicely done but just not my style at all with all the swoops and waves.

Actually the lion is the Voltron design. Voltron was 5 lion robots that combined into 1 big robot to fight aliens who were out to destroy earth. Comes from a line of toys and a really bad anime (Japanese animation).

If I get some spare time I'll give my shot at the Lionmag design...purely because I will fail and there will be lulz to go around. Now I just have to find a large AGD spec peice of doweling ^.^

This isn't going to be particularly popular on this board, but you will expand your market dramatically if you go with a milsim design. If you can come up with something along the lines of a AK47 and/or M4, you will have a ton of sales. Scenario ball is growing, and there is a market for good, reliable markers in that area. Every time I go to a scenario event and shoot Mags, there are more people wanting one. AO won't produce those type of bodies, so hopefully you can. I am PM'g you another idea I hope you will seriously consider based on Warwitch's suggestion regarding X7 mods.

And I have a kid who is 20 years old, and I caught the Voltron reference.

Why round

you can use a block as long as it fits in the rail right?

Just teasing.

Xmagterror - before people get into this too far, is the Lion body even possible? It's badass, but seems like it'd be really hard to machine. If the Ripper bodies took 6-7 hours, this thing would be running all day and all night...

I would like tosee a body buil that is convertable from warp lft/rt/ an center like a xmag

11-12-2007, 09:37 AM
A milsim style body would be sweet. Either something that looked similar to an actual smg reciever, or some type of hybrid between the minimag and tacone body. (might try to draw something up since I have a day off).
Of course I'd also love to see an sfl clone of some sort.

TwilightG
11-12-2007, 10:18 AM
I think a ULE MiniMag clone would be sweet!
center-feed, of course.

I know it's not very original, but it's such a great style... I just don't care for the weight or the powerfeed of the existing body.
And since it would be aluminum, imagine the anno possibilities :D

To give it a more modern look, maybe throw in some nice milling touches.. like beveling around the front muzzle "slots" or some diagonal hash lines in the back. Kind of hard to explain and don't have a drawing.

Cougar: not bad. Maybe have a better effect if were a spiral design instead of a ribbed design (if that makes sense).

Somebody should do one that looks like thick, double stranded rope.

a really bad anime (Japanese animation).

I loved it! Well, the first version anyways. They did kind of cheese out on the second one.

There have been a ton of post already and thats a good!!!

If you plan to carve a design out of wood find yourself some 1.5" diamter dowell.

The designs could be made out of anything really....as long as they can handle a couple of pounds of pressure from the digitizing stylus.

As for the quesiton about a new design taking longer to run.....i should not take much longer and may be a bit faster. It will not change all that much because the slugs are the same size.

My cnc mill can copy and reproduce any kind of hand carved artwork....not a problem.

There are some great designs.

I love the blue body from page 1.

If the Lions ever came to BE, their would have to be 5 of them. They would all have to somehow mount together in a mini gun configuration!

Good luck on the body designs.

If you flattened out 4 of the verticle lines starting with the one that kinda goes down the center of the feed neck rearward, it would hint of "wings" and look dragon-esk.
