I picked this up off craigslist. I know that it is a micromag. What else can you tell me about the gun, barrel, and Gun f/x grip frame? Is the barrel stock? Is the grip frame stock? I believe it is a dust black PTP with matching vert adapter. Am I right?

This one I might keep. It looks pretty cool. But, I have to ask....What is it worth?

Thanks.

I added the dye grips to replace the panels that came on it.

You have a left feed Pro Team Products MicroMag. I belive it is the second generation micro as the first gen have the barrel built in to the body called the mini micro by some. The barrel is not the original niether is the lower end of the foregrip, but the trigger is one of the older ones (which is a good thing as you dont see GUN F/X anymore).

You can find more parts for this at http://www.proteamdirect.com/. The original barrel is no longer made and hard to come by. You can an 8 inch Armson and it would look great and close to the original.

I would say that it is probably worth 120-150, closer to 150 if you have the original MicroMag valve.

The barrel might be an SS BOA barrel? If you're lucky lol. Might just be a random SS barrel.

The valve is a classic valve with a velocity tourny lock on it and the grip is either some old x-chamber or gas thru.

Everything else is stock.

I have an old BOA Snakebite barrel that looks identical to that one. Those are barrels are heavy but shoot well.

How could I tell if it is a BOA? So, the gun f/x grip frame was a stock item?

The barrel to me looks like a J&J brass that is nickel plated. They made some that were smooth boore and others that had 4 straights grooves inside. Plus the muzzle brake looks familer.
Thing i remember about these barrels is when you shoot it makes a 'ting' sound. Which was dampened with an o-ring near muzzle tip.

BTW, if you didnt know already your marker is threaded for auto cocker barrels.

The barrel is a J and J autococker model...might have strait rifling down the bore.
AC barrels had the extra ring to hold the shroud.

Well, it's an earlier model, but not real early (not fixed barrel).

It has a bolt on detent and a flat back (where it meets the valve). "Newer" micromags had the detent incorporated into the body and a slanted back that went over the valve.

Oh, and just to show off a little........

Is the $150 value pretty accurate?

For yours, I'd say so. It looks like it's in good shape and all of it's parts match ano wise. The vert adapter on it is good to have, you'll see a fair amount with no vert asa/foregrip at all. Benchmark frames are nice, but the double-trigger frames are usually more desireable.

How's the valve? Matching serials? Type of bolt? Functionality?

If it works well then everything else is cosmetics basically. An X-valve, ULT, LVL10 set-up wouldn't be cheap, but it would be a great performance improvement. If you're not looking for the lightest trigger pull, anti-chop abilities, and a valve with faster recharge, then you don't need to get any of that stuff.

If that's the case, then you can just be happy with the classic valve and maybe do a little cosmetic work to it. A better barrel or barrel kit, cleaner hose setup, drop forward or direct mount ASA on the grip frame, double-trigger frame, warp feed......whatever floats your boat! If you get REALLY squirley you could get it re-anoed, but I've always been a fan of the factory finishes from PTP for years. There's no reason to ruin all of that clean laser engraving on the grip frame and the matte black is cool because it feels both tactical and classy to me.

I'd say if you paid $150 or less for it that you got a good deal.

keep that micromag. don't get rid of it.

The barrel is a J & J hard chrome, which is what the old Ironmen (with Bob Long) used to shoot way way way back in the day. I've got one identical to it.

If you're looking to get a stock barrel on it, here is a link to a current auction for one.

I'm a completist, so it KILLS me if one of my Micros doesn't have a matched barrel. The Armson barrels actually shoot quite nicely too, so that's a bonus.

And since we're bragging on our Micros...
