That's nasty looking. I love white sportbikes. If it turns out as well as the 1098 it'll be even better. Any word on the price?

Meh,

Call me an old fart but red is the only proper color for a Duck. Still that's a very pretty bike :D

I might just go, depends on if i'm free and if i'm in the mood. I'm not the type that likes the look of crotch rockets, i respect how fast they can go, but they just don't appeal to me.

I wanna try to get my uncle's old harley that's basically a frame with a drag engine, that thing can outrun newer bikes and looks nice, but i hear it's hell to ride.

What are those bikes for anyway? Weaving in and out of traffic going 90 like I see everyday? Many will die on these type bikes. Get a Harley and go slower and louder. Loud pipes save lives! ;)

Not to mention, that people may see or notice you on a crotch rocket...but they watch you go by on a Harley :)

Harleys can get attention, i've heard of stories (i won't name who to save the innocent) of how cops have shielded their eyes from certain Harleys because it was the holiday or something and they didn't want to have paper work. I've also heard stories of harleys being able to outrun some crotch rockets (granted they're not from the factory and they're not as maneuverable, but still).

LIGHTWEIGHT MOVES—HEAVYWEIGHT PUNCH
The new 848 enjoys all the performance advancements of the entire Superbike family, while adding its own innovations to redefine the middleweight sport bike class.

The words 'agile' and 'refined' aptly describe the 848. At 369 lbs the 848 is an amazing 44 lbs lighter than its predecessor, and a significant 11 lbs lighter than its larger capacity brother, the 1098.

The highly advanced 848 engine uses an improved method of engine case production in which cases are vacuum die-cast formed. While providing significant weight savings of more than 6.5 lbs, this method also ensures consistent wall thickness and increased strength. Further refinements include a sophisticated wet clutch that offers 2.2 lbs less weight, a much higher service life, improved clutch feel and quiet operation.

With the first twist of the wrist, the powerful rush of the Testastretta Evoluzione engine confirms that the rules have changed. The 848's 134 hp is not only 30% more powerful than its predecessor, but it provides a power-to-weight ratio even better than the potent 999. The 848—a new class of Superbikes.

2008 MSRP $12,995 ($15,995 CDN)

btw, im pretty sure any harlery fan can appreciate the rumble from the Ducati V-Twins

haha, yeah. Ducati's sound like motorcycles. You hear a 1098 rip by on the track and it sounds like a mean machine. Cruising down the street on a Harley setting off all the car alarms at 2am is really cool to though

I did the same thing. Waited till I finished college and got a job, then immediately bought a motorcycle. I can't imagine not having a sportbike. It's so fun, and so cheap to drive.

Skip it and spend your money on a really expensive Persian cat. You'll live longer, and you can still say "She purrs like a kitten."

Phenominal machines but not exactly the ideal street bike. AND FAR from a good starter bike. Still i absolutely love Duc's and would not mind getting the Sport Classic GT 1000 (http://www.ducati.com/od/ducatinorthamerica/en/galleries/img/img8,230_22,619.jpg) to add to my stable.

Iv ridden many bikes now from full blown sports machines (Fun but not so much at any speed you wont loose your license doing) to full dresser Harley's and near everything in-between.

My first bike was a Jap Cruiser (http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/11853Bike03.JPG) and it was a fun little bike fast enuff if i wanted to go 0-loose my license in a few seconds and yet was a very easy machine to just ride along at the speed limits or a bit over. That being said it had some comfort problems with the bike and wanted a bike a bit more sport oriented but also be comfy traveling and taking down the offten overlooked dirt roads.

So i bought my current ride a Suzuki V-Strom 650 (http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/11853small01.JPG) . IN my opinion its the perfect street bike. Its the jack of all trades master of none. Its a bike i can comfortably ride with out jepordizing my license but yet still take to a track open it up and have a blast. Its a bike i can ride a 800km day with fully luggage one day and then go trail riding the next. It a great machine that im very happy with.

Eventually id like to get a MUCH more dirt oriented Duel sport (Suzuki Dr 650se) to have along side my current do everything machine. But if i ever win the lotto a sport machine will also be included into that garage for track days (some kinda Ducati would be high on the list i prefer V-Twins).

I owned a Green 998 MATRIX Duc for about a year, sold it after coming to the reality short wheelbase sport bikes with stiff suspension while track worthy, just SUCK as a mountain canyon carver ....
http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/Gallery/Ducati%20998%20Matrix%20%201.jpg

Now own a 2007 BMW K1200GT .... Handles FAR better, has a LOT more H.P. (@ 164) longer wheelbase and can be ridden all damn day without beating the snot out of you !!

But at @ 18K ... not for those without ample $$$$ resources
