Are used x valves generally a good deal?

Id say so, They are already broken in so there is no time down from you breaking it in.

But theres nothing better than having something brand new, so if youve got the money you should spring for a new one otherwise a used one it just as good

Since X-valves are solid, high grade aluminum, there's very little that suffers from wear and tear. If you buy a used X-valve, the worse thing is that maybe it needs a parts kit to replace some of the o-rings... but there's really not much else that can go wrong.

I have a classic mag and a pneumag with an X-valve, and the only thing I bought new was my UMF frame. Everything else, even used, has worked great.

So, be careful to ask the right questions (Does it work? Are there any problems with it? etc), but don't be afraid to buy used.

They are a great deal. One other place to check for a lot of wear and tear is where the field strip screw hole is. Those threads might not be easily repairable.
