Anyone know what tap size is used to put in a second detent on a ULE Body?

Luke would know. Try sending him a PM. Or wait for him to chime in.

Yes that’s the one, luckily I have the 1/8 BSP taps and dies.
Thank you.

M10x1.00

I did do some research and have seen this listed as the proper size (along with the tap I use). I'm not sure if the two sizes are close to the same thread, or if Angel had different detents. On one site I found both sizes listed but for different Angel models. Not sure what gives, I gave up the search...

The M10x1.00 would have a thread pitch of 25.4, so a bit different from the 1/8-28, the major diameter is very close though.

Thanks, I'm not versed in metric and didn't want to look it up.

I'm curious about the 2 different thread recommendations, anyone know whats up??

According to the "pocket ref" i have for thread sizes, a 1/8 thread's outer diameter is 9,72mm. I would assume the detent will be the same, and yes they fit 1/8 holes nicely. And due to enough play on the threads it also could fit a M10x1.0 hole. The other way around? I'm pretty sure that's a no go. I've tried using metric size M5 screws to replace 10-32 UNF sized asa screws. Size difference is minimal, so is the pitch. But the difference of 0.006mm/turn is enough for M5 screws to be unusable, unless i forcefully screw them in.

1/8NPT taps work great too. Because of the tapered profile you have to get the depth right. If you don't go deep enough the detents don't screw all the way in and if you go too deep the detents are loose and you get reduced thread engagement. It's a trial and error thing.

1/8npt have a 27tpi pitch for the record. I used a 1/8npt tap on my custom body and the AGD detents screwed in beautifully.

Alternative if you want it....if you've got any of the plentiful detents for SP markers lying around, you can tap it for 3/8-16.

Well thats interesting. I've always used M10x1.00 to tap for Angel detents. I saw that on the Rat's Nest and figured it made sense because the rest of the threads on an Angel are metric as well. I did notice that when chasing stock Angel detent holes with the metric tap that it cut a slightly large hole.

/looks up numbers/

That makes sense because 10mm is about 0.3937 in. and 1/8 BSP major diameter is 0.383 in. The pitch is a bit more off though as 1mm pitch is about 25.4 TPI and 1/8 BSP is 28 TPI. I guess the small length of thread engagement has saved us on that respect. I may have to pick up a 1/8 BSP tap and do them like that from now on just to be proper.

Good info!
