View Full Version : Alright: what brand barrel comes with the Tac-One?

I was under the impression that the Tac-One came with a 2-piece J&J barrel, but I've seem some sites advertise it as being a 2-piece Dye. The AGD store specifies nothing, besides the fact that it's a 2-piece barrel.

So, what is it? J&J or Dye?

I received my Tac One a few weeks ago and they were out of J&J so I got a Proto 1 piece barrel (could have waited for the J&J but chose not to). Not sure whether this is a good thing or not but that's what I did.

First it was a J&J aluminum 2 piece, then it was a DYE Excel, now it's a J&J 2 piece again lol. And I guess they're subbing Protos too. Huh, didn't know that!

Hmm, okay. Seems there's a lot of variations then.

Judging by the look of my barrel, would it be safe to assume it's a J&J?

Yes, that's the J&J.

That's what came on mine, and it's a very light barrel. Not bad in performance, either.

Custar:
How quiet is your barrel. I have the Proto and it is fairly quiet, I don't know how we would measure such a thing without checking the decibels. Just wondering where you would rank yours on sound.

Thanks

Its a J&J, but the inside of the barrel is not ceramic coated like the barrels you would buy directly from J&J. (At least that is what a guy at J&J told me.)

The J&J 2-Pieces are not ceramic coated either.

I also have the same barrel, it it is a J&J, however I use an UltraLite. A little off topic question though, what kinda of feed neck is that, and where did you get it? Thanks

Subjectively, it's middle of the road or slightly lower (more quiet) than average. I haven't performed any tests, much less an objective one. It has a more tinny sound than the Javelin I also use (the Javelin seems to cause a lower pitch report). Soundwise, I would rate the barrel a 6 out of 10, but then I'm kind of rough on ratings.

I use a no-pro CCM clamping feedneck. I got it directly from CCM - they've got an eBay storefront here: http://stores.ebay.com/ccmfactorydirect

Here's a closeup pic of it:

Bless you kind sir? for the link, did you cut down the feed neck on you loader, or does it just fit that nicely?

I removed about half an inch, as the feedneck was showing stress marks. It's nice and snug now!
