He explained it in the thread your quoting...

Look at the tolerances of the on-off pin - measured to like .762 (or whatever). Look at the tolerances of the LX shim kit. When you are measure in thousands of an inch it does not take much deviation (such as too thick or thin of anno) to throw things off.

this is why i just did the back half, as that is just a regulator with all air passages sealedwith o-rings. I feel alot less of a risk vs doing the whole valve.

I don't know why people don't do it more, though I would not suggest getting it annoed more than once, but if you do it right, it will have no problems what so ever, like my X (which did not turn out exactly as I wanted it, but hey, I was experimenting on my annos on this gun believe it or not. It looks a lot better matching that it would have all black!) :D

There is no way to seal off the inside? (I dont know alot about annoing so this might be a stupid question). Baooka that is an awesome anno! I want to try that with red!

ok, better pics of it...maybe I will take some of the inside of the valve...though that means I have to get up, I just got off of work so thats not happening for like another hour or so...lol

oh yea, I also did something a little different with the grips, I just need to make a clear hall sensor holder, and a clear (or trans blue) selector, and I will be finished! :D

oh, and to why the X is dreaded to be annoed, tolerances are so tight that stripping the anno will make it leak, but if you put a very thick layer back on to compensate for some if not all of the stripped metal, then there are no worries! :D

and to your question, there is a way, silicon to plug it, though if its not cleaned perfectly when the silicon plug goes in, it will leak and ruin the valve, the major issue places though are easy to mask with a simple couple of corks, maybe a little silicon to get the blow off hole in the front of the valve, but the back can be annoed no problem as Ruler_Mark stated earlier! :D

 what tolerances are on the outside of the valve? (again possible noob question sorry)

the tolerances that are truly important are on the inside of the valve, though I did not plug anything, it has less of a chance of ruining the valve if I just strip and redo the whole thing IMO, because if the plugs leak, you will have major pitting, and a useless X valve...

so technically if you could plug everything and knew that it would not leak then it would be a piece of cake?

Theoretically annoing it is not a problem. Stripping the anno off, and then adding new anno may throw out tolerances and cause issues.

Its one of those things, do you want to gamble with a $300 part?

Never been to Vegas have you?

Yes, and my $300 gamble has the chance of a 100% (or greater) instant return.

Don't worry about anno'ing your X-valve. The only people who say not to are the people who have done it already, and thats only because they want to be the only ones with the rare, annoed, prettied-up X-valves. They don't want it to become a commonplace thing, because then theirs won't be as special anymore. :ninja:
