View Full Version : got a question for all of you AOers

so I am getting another mag soon, and it is all black, kinda boring, not at all my style, I like to have something unique, flashy, and definately going to turn heads, so my question for the entire AO community is what colors should I anodize my personal gun. I am an anodizer for those that do not know, and I do have nearly all colors imaginable...

my only parameters:::

-has to be a gloss (I am not and never will be a fan of dust)
-keep it to at most 3 colors, and preferably a wash
-it has to be something totally unique that will look nice, no ugly gun here
-whatever the top idea is, if I think its doable, it will be done

pics of the gun, well I don't have any at the moment, so my description, milled rail, inteli, ULE body, 15* foregrip, bike handle, and the rest is all pretty standard, I am wanting to do the valve also, idk if that changes anything but letting you know!

so help me out and give me some good ideas that you would love to see done on a mag :headbang: (attractive ideas that are not over done if done at all)

BTW, I would like to have an idea before wendsday, as thats when the gun is coming in, or around there, and I want to finish it before the weekend so I can show it off at one of my local super games :D

How bright and flash are we talking? You said you might prefer a wash... I've never asked but can anyone do a candy anno? (Various layers of color to make the candy illusion)?

In any event I am noticing quite a few variations on olive drab now-a-days so if your trying to stand out amongst the crowd that might not be a good choice. I love blue, but haven't really found any examples of a blue anno that I like completely. Red seems to be an easy one to get right and stands out even in low light... Champagne is used by a lot of ego owners I've seen in this neck of the woods.

Personally I'm polishing everything that I have, but if I were to anno mine I would probably run a deep electrtic blue starting at the tip of the marker and fading back into silver beyond the feedneck... then with a line of silver starting halfway down the barrel spreading slowly until it became an almost lighting like "splash" near the transition between the blue and silver...

Then again that's just me... do you have color pref's?

you should offer a discount to the person who helps you pick your finish! :D

That being said, My dream anno job would have to be:

Yellow base, blue and red splash.

or

Polish blue base, yellow and pink splash.

I'm going to do my pump gun one of those, prolly the yellow (when I get a pump gun, that is  )

I will do the discount thing, so whoever comes up with my idea gets 50% off :D, I have to move my anno stuff again, as my shop got "shut down" due to some issues with my employee's marital status (my shop was at his place)

anyway, I have no preferences of colors really, its just that black is so boring, and I HATE...yes thats right hate olive, too woodsbally, even though I play woodsball most of the time, I still like to stand out ;)

here are pics of my other guns, so you know what I do not want to do the same as:::

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/BAZOOKA_Boy/P5060036.jpg

some of my own ideas, but keep on weaving away from them:

-black, blue and green wash
-clear to black fade splash with a copper to yellow fade base (I know its 4 colors, but clear doesn't count really)
-pewter and clear wash
-gold effects done with my airbrush, to look like paisley with a light pewter background to look more metallic like silver or platinum (I just need to find some good cardboard stencils for that one)
-similar idea with a green and clear washed background (to look like marble), but something other than paisley, some sort of extremely wild design that you would see gold leafed onto something expensive :D

those are my ideas, so you can take those and run with them if you wish, the last 2 were the ones I was leaning most to, but still was at a block as what to do, so many choices that I can do, and only one I can pick! lol

What I was thinking of are on the lines of the style of #3 and 4. I paint miniatures (you might think this is obscure in relivance to paintball  ) and I personally like using 3 colours in unison on a model (with maybe a 4th on details)

My suggestions are:

-yellow/red/blue-violet or blue/violet/silver (closer to pastel shades)
fade comboed with the mix effect that your #3 and 4 guns have
(the violet can be hard to mix into the red but I have done it with success)

the red and violet do not actually mix that much dye wise, but fade very nicely together and are easy to keep separated enough to differentiate them, but yellows/bright greens and violet do not get along at all! there are certain colors that do not mix well, and others that just make awesome colors when mixed right...

and yes, guns 3 and 4 are my 2 washed guns currently, the Ecocker is light blue, dark blue, and clear and the pump is blue and violet...

I'd say do a black base with two different shades of grey over it, one being darker and one lighter. That way, it'll look as a "Urban Camo" Mag. That will be hot! :headbang:

Sunset Orange/Yellow fade into RED... To top it off, either tattoo, or get lazer engraved a COY fish... Like a really sweet Coy Tat.

Similar to how Gruntbull did this marker (the Tat portion)... but with the colors mentioned above and full length

remember the cocker you did for me? the black and pewter splash?

Mabey do a simlar style however with a twist,,

on the black splash swap that for that hawaiian blue you have, then where the blue pewter was, acidwash it so its alike the lighting cocker you built buty using sunset orange, clear, and mabey triple wash it with yellow

edit: your gallery on your site is toast, someone injected into it. I'd be willing to help your site send me a message.

Sunset Orange/Yellow fade into RED... To top it off, either tattoo, or get lazer engraved a Koi fish... Like a really sweet Koi Tat.

Go for a Purple base with a black and silver wash on top... mmm secks. Or maybe instead of silver go with an orange.

ok, of the posts so far, my top choices are at the moment:

-yellow to red to violet fade (Tao)
-the yellow to red fade with a nice tatoo on top in black, though not a koi fish...probably something more like a dragon, or some really cool looking vines (VTLO910)
-Black and orange gloss splash with silver flakes.(warbeak2099)
-gloss gold background with black splash, though I would make the splash into some sort of picture, but black and gold would look sweet together that way (maddboy32)
-blue splash with orange, clear, yellow washed background (Ruler_Mark)
-Burnt orange with light blue and clear acid wash, I just hope the orange and blue don't mix too much and make a nasty color! (cyrus-the-virus)
-clear background, heavy with the gold vines running the length (like those sweet old firearms that were all flashy and engraved and gold enlayed) (my idea :D)
like this:
http://ipecglobal.com/imimg/gun-001_1.jpg
http://www.autrynationalcenter.org/calendar_images/pistols_goldblack.jpg
http://www.coltcollectorsassoc.com/images/2004SG/Lady%202004%20Left.jpg (only gold in the engraving parts) it is doable, I just need a lot of time to cut out the stencils for it...lol

so its down to those 7, but don't stop making suggestions if you think yours would look better, but from now till tonight I would like people to look through that list and see what their favorite is, and what would look the best on a mag, because its a mag and it deserves to look its best! :D

That would look insane :wow:

I don't know if it would work (I don't know anything about anodizing :p) but maybe a light blue and pink "spounge" acid wash? (I belive that's what it's called)

Also on my burnt orange/light blue/clear, it might look better if it was a splash rather than an acid wash, make it look a bit more like waves if you did it right(if it would work in the first place)

How about a blood red with a bright lime green drizzle for an "infected" look.

I never thought about waves, that would be pretty cool to do a few white caps with a vertical faded gun for a sunset, that would be pretty sweet!

I think your stensal idea would look fantastic, though I would personaly like it better as a dust finish to look white rather than silver. White and gold just accent themselvs just wonderfuly on a marker.

You've got a bloody hard desision ahead of you  a lot of those idea's would look sick as hell.

Is it possable to test weather an effect would actually work before you did it? I woulden't want to jump into some of these idea's without knowing if they would work...

I know all of them would work, its just the engravingesk idea is the most difficult as it requires the most detailed work, maybe it would be best to have the background a satin finish, that way I could have the gloss engraving and satin background thats a little easier than trying to airbrush the engraving on with stencils, then I just have to mask everything before I bead blast it lightly, then polish again to make the surfaces a little un even, making them easy to mask by hand...

even still the other ideas would look sweet, and I really do like your idea of the waves...but still others need to pipe in with their favorites out of the top 7 list! :D

Wow you do some beautiful work. :wow:

That light blue /dark blue/ clear e cocker is amazing. :hail:

That may be my first choice for my own anno :ninja:

As I had mentioned in pm's some anno's look better on certain guns/milling.

Got a pic of the marker you will be anno'ing?
