I can even remember how many there were. We lost a couple because of lost breaches etc. I have a couple purple ones here, one is new in the box. I would bet the number is more like 25. Bad Boys couldn't pay us for all of them so thats what killed production.

You guys would faint if you saw my NIB collection of guns. The SFL is in my personal collection and never to be sold, sorry. For the past decade I have been buying up guns and just putting them away in the box.

Some people have been to the shop and seen a few of my pieces but no one has been to (decided not to say) where the bulk of the stuff is.

11/10/01 Amy "AIM" Schreier - yep, she's a badass. She's on the novice team Femmes Fatales, and as good as they look, they play even better! Jan shot this picture of Amy on Manchebo beach in Aruba - that lucky dog. Amy is holding the new Airgun Designs/Shocktech "MaximMag" SFL, aka the E-Mag Xtreme. Amy and the "MaximMag" will be in the February 2002 issue of Maxim Magazine due to hit news stands and mailboxes in the middle of January. There'll be more on both of them on MaximOnline.com at the beginning of February.

Excerpt from the Maxim Magazine Interview:

Amy: Yeah

TM: What are you wearing...uh...How's it feel to be in Maxim?
Amy: Um, I don't know, I haven't seen it yet (refering to the fact that we promised to send her a bunch of copies and then didn't), but from the slews of emails that Im getting I think it's pretty °°°°in' cool.

Amy: I would be swiss cheese cause it tastes good and there's no mistaking swiss cheese.

TM: When did you start playing?
Amy: With myself?
TM: Paintball
Amy: About a year ago

TM: What position do you play?
Amy: Mid back. Mid, but I can play every position really well.

TM: Beer or liquor?
Amy: Beer

TM: Is it true that hot chics don't pass gas?
Amy: No that's not true at all, we're the worst

TM: I heard that nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning, is that true?
Amy: no

TM: What's the worst pickup line you've every heard?
Amy: I must have a mirror in my pocket, cause I can see you in my pants.

TM: How often do you floss?
Amy: Everyday
TM: Really?
Amy: Of course

TM: Happy Birthday by the way
Amy: It's my birthday?
TM: Guess not...

TM: Have you every been "Happy Birthday'ed" by Team Strange?
Amy: No

TM: What's the best cinematic cat fight ever?
Amy: It was in some °°°° film, Chics in Jail or something

TM: What's your favorite cuss word?
Amy: Um, °°°°er

TM: Spell "subcutaneous"
Amy: Yeah right! Really? Ok. S-U-B (we hear typing)
TM: Don't cheat (She cheated)

TM: Would you ever consider marrying a ... Canadian?
Amy: Oh sure

TM: What color roses should a guy send you after a great second date?
Amy: Yellow

TM: What color paintballs should a guy buy you after you've bunkered his ***?
Amy: Pink

TM: Can you pee your name in the snow?
Amy: Yep (We didn't ask...)

TM: If we had had one good question to ask you, what should it have been?
Amy: When can you see me next...

I just went through his posts and nothing is said about an SFL. He did have an e-mag anodized by Tunaman with is a Black to Red Dust Finish :D No SFL tho :(

Hawpunch owned the Polished Black SFL then reanodized it by Precisionpb to a Black to Red Fade then (my guess) sold it to killertip212 which Jay12324 bought who then sold it to A-Tach-One.

Basically all SFLs lead to A-tach-one :p

I have not been here for some time guys, in fact have not played paintball in some time, too many other hobbies competing for my time and money but I do still have my SFL.

It is not set up right now to play, I stripped everything off of it to set up a C&C Angel that I was given to get it working. Also been goofing around with a Hybrid AutoCocker I am trying to get working. The SFL is so bullet proof that I know I could put everything back on and go play right away if it came to that.

For those that have inquired, no it is not for sale. I do not sell paintball guns, much to my wife's dismay.

Updated: Just finished an update to the thread. I reached out to a bunch of SFL owners who haven't posted in 3-4 years. I added some pictures back to the OP's and I also added imageplace holders for the SFLs we didn't have pictures for. Btw, we just hit over 30 sfls to be known. I would think that about 40 are to exist all together. 3 or 4 privately owned and 3 or 4 Ruined SFLs from the factory.

Btw, if you do have any info you want to share feel free to post of send me a PM!!

Guys I did not think anyone was spamming me, it is all good. I know how desirable they are, I have had more than one person inquire about selling it.

I did have to add one caveat to my previous post, I have actually sold one paintball gun years ago, it was my first semi, it was a Brass Eagle. I thought it was a Scorpion but I am probably wrong, it was the all metal version of the Stingray from what I was told. It was a neat gun but it broke more paint than it shot so I dumped it for a VM-68, yes I still have it and it still works.

Since I recently retired and I seem to have time on my hands I will have to make a point to come in here more often and exchange some thoughts with everyone. I will see about getting pics of the SFL and the MicroMag while I am at it.

This decision has been on my mind for a long time, but it's finally time to say adieu. I said I'd never sell her, but times have changed... I have changed. Expressing the below won't be short and simple, as it isn't by any means :( .

I've never had a lot of extra $, no more than 4-5 Markers at any one time, not a "marker-whore", and like to keep my collection efficient. If a marker was/is not getting used on a regular basis, it's purged. Surely, if life wasn't as difficult as it is right now, and I had unlimited $, the SFL would never leave my side. There's unfortunately no room for me to keep a paintball marker purely based on sentimental value alone these days. Thus, my SFL E-Mag has been SOLD. A phenomenal shooter, she will be missed dearly.

Got my first Mag in 96', a Classic, then upgraded to a RT Original in 98'. Had a bunch of other markers too, but sold/traded off those two by 02', when I somehow, and luckily, got a hold of the Red SFL E-Mag. She's been my main marker ever since, through the years on 2 all-Mag Tournament Teams, Collegiate level play, to the current Scenario scene.

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/data/811/Ballers_SFL_E-Mag.jpg
SFL E-Mag Gallery (http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/11985)

I'm one of if not the last original SFL owner's, or at the least, owned an SFL longer than just about any AO'er to date. Being an X-Mag proto-type however, the SFL was plagued with problems at the start of our relationship, unbeknownst to many. When she went down yrs ago at the AO MegaMeet, even Tom Kaye himself didn't know what was wrong with her. Should have worked after replacing everything internally, she just didn't. Good news is that we did eventually diagnose/fix all issues, and since 05', she's been running smoothly at 100%.

Regardless of the initial hiccups, how much I've enjoyed her looks, feel, rarity, and the prestige she's brought... there were always a couple things I secretly disliked, and was jealous of other markers for. Things such as air efficiency, weight, batteries/life/weight, recoil, "chuffing", some other stuff, weighed on my thoughts.

The SFL took a backseat this year, even getting dusty at times after months of non-use. At the start of 08', I picked up what now is my main marker, and ridiculously new favorite, an 04' AKA Viking - AKA DC Viking #1 (http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/13935). I'm both happy & sad to say, Vikings are just superior markers in just about all areas (imo), so much so that I spent the last 6months having a 2nd one fully done up - AKA DC Viking #2 (http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/16420). Having tried and owned many other electros, I do find it slightly odd that another rare-ish marker replaced the SFL; not as rare, but where the company ceased production yrs ago. Glad it was an AKA though.

Don't bother pm'ing me regarding selling the SFL to you. There will be be NO sale thread / NO ebay auction, as the SFL is already spoken for and will be changing hands this weekend. If he who is acquiring her would like to speak up, he will do so. Many know of him, and I consider him to be one of the most upstanding members in the Paintball Community today, at least that I know of.

Though I was roughly the 200th member to join AO, even before AGD bought this forum, I don't post here as much as I used to... and while it has definitely changed quite a bit from the old days, I will still stop by to see & say what's up.

So that's it... see ya'll when I see ya.

This is the first time I have posted in a very long time; paintball took a backseat to the wife, daughter, and job for the last few years. I sent my purple SFL Emag to Tunaman about 2 years ago for repair work and then forgot about it until last night. I emailed him this morning so that I can get him paid for the work/storage and get my SFL back home. Hopefully, I hear back soon.

The other day I went to the shop by me to get some tanks filled and pick up some macro stuff.
I knew they had an e-mag but I didn't know too much about 'mags at the time and hadn't been in there in a while.
When I saw this I grabbed my cell phone. Pic is kind of sub-par because I had to zoom in a lot, hopefully you can see it.

http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/927/1111081615po6.jpg

It's between the Nova and the Spyder.

They have a lot of cool stuff on their wall: A bunch of Piranha long/short barrels, a pgp or 2, Nelspot 007, a typhoon, some old sterlings, a couple old phantoms, tippmann sl-68 II, tippmann 68 special, Bushmasters, classic 'cockers, etc, etc, and even a 6-pak. I should have snapped that as well.

Hopefully, I hear back soon.

gloss purple sfl? yeah, tuna had to beat a few od us back from it with a baseball bat..then he put a bear trap around it...those things hurt...its still there buddy, just alot of drool on it

I am happy (and sad at the same time) to report that Tunaman is the proud new owner of my SFL Emag. With me not getting to play much any more, I thought that my SFL should go to someone who will truly appreciate it. I know he will.

I know its old news but a few months ago I was given the opportunity to own one of these beauties. I can't say thank you enough Bennett. :hail:

She needs some work here and there but the anno is in great condition. Most of the marks are from some kind of glue/adhesive that just needs to be cleaned off.

BigE: I remember reading from Tom Kaye that he had multiple purple SFLs... here is the quote..

AGD
I can even remember how many there were. We lost a couple because of lost breaches etc. I have a couple purple ones here, one is new in the box. I would bet the number is more like 25. Bad Boys couldn't pay us for all of them so thats what killed production.

I guess I'll spill the beans.... I was searching for SFL Emags and stumbled upon this picture. It is dated 09/01 around the time SFLs started to come out. I'm not sure if this would be a prototype or someone really bored. Either way it blew my mind to find this because I haven't heard anyone mention a milled SFL other than the Chimera. I messaged AGD and he didn't have any info on it.

Kutter: I really like the matching barrel. Is that a Clear to Pewter Fade or are the pics playing tricks on me?

Here is a preview of my SFL I recently got anodized. I would post more pictures but my camera broke :-(

It is the barrel that came with it when I bought it, I always assumed it was the barrel that came with the gun when it was originally cut and annoed but maybe not. It is a 14" Dye Boomstick clear to pewter fade, it is very slight though, the camera flash makes it more pronounced than it looks in natural light. I have never played a game with that barrel since it is so long and 'Mags tend to not be terribly efficient guns anyhow, not to mention getting into a bunker with it could be a trick, but I do have to say that it is very quiet.

I like the anno on yours, I thought about getting mine done, but since I think of it more as a collectible than an actual gun I play with regularly I decided to keep it as original as possible.

I remember the very reason GRimm and I ruled out the possibiity stealing it was the fact that it is so rare. You would never be able to play with it, sell it, part it out, or even show it off without SOMEONE recognising it. That being said, it'd sit in a closet for like 50 years.

The thief may know it's rare and valuable, but surprisingly few people know that there are only 25-30 of them out there. This jerk will get caught, even if the marker isn't recovered... Either that or it'll end up in a shop somewhere, traded in for a 2010 electro-whatever and somebody who recognizes it will inform the owner or something.

That said, I know a person who owns a silver SFL and isn't on this list... He's not even an AO member. I wish I'd encountered this thread before. Should I get pictures? Is this like an ongoing project? I must admit the milling was never my style (though I do respect the awesomeness of the marker) and I readily give the guy crap about it.

All we can do is look and ask around. It'll turn up, I can't see it being in the woodwork for too long, even with the given common knowledge of SFL existance.

I just confused myself. They are saying the shocktech factory was robbed and Manny's SFL went missing, but Manny's SFL isn't at the factory. Last I checked it was at BBT Orland... Unless they moved it back when they moved the store to next-door.

Now my party pooping question.... we all know that E's, X's and SFL's can be out gunned by many other markers out there.... that's not the point.

My question is... Isn't the SFL supposed to be Super F'in Light? Is that now what SFL stood for back in the day? I understand that there are E's, X's, and SFL's and that there are ULE'd versions as well. That said.

What are the weights of the different ones? I know the E's originally have SS bodies. I'm not counting that. I'm thinking of the E's that have had ULE bodies put on em. But what is the weight of the SFL body compared to the X body, compared to the ULE body? What about the frames? There are the CNC frames, the ULE'd frames, etc. Who has the weights for those? I mean are the SFL mags (I'm thinking made from SLUG type bodies) lighter than the X mags?

Just wondering. I mean I am not trying to play down the rarity or the fact that they were at the time marvels in their own right, but were the SFL's made before the X's came out and did the X's cut weight more than the SFL's?

Well you have to remember the order these came out in. The SS Emag came out in 2000, so when the SFL Emag debuted at the end of 2001 it was definetly "So Freakin Light". CnC Xmag circa 2002 came out after the SFL and then the ULE body in 2003. So at the time the name fit the SFL just right.

I will bust out my scale and weigh the 2001 SFL body to the 2002 CnC XMag body later.

21.) Rdb123 (Ex) Pewter SFL
http://www.pbpixels.com/images/sflemags/jonesie.jpg
Infamous SFL dropped accidentally dropped it in a lake.
Original Owner: Johnny Bravo> Rdb123> Sold to Unknown

Was feeling nostalgic so I decided to visit AO today. Surprised to see this thread!

Anyway, here's some added details about this marker:

***Sometime in early February 2004, I sold this marker to AO username "Jonesie." (link (http://automags.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1279025&postcount=16)). Through my research (reading his posts here on AO and my use of Google), I found out he is this player on APPA (http://www.paintball-players.org/cgi-bin/playerprofile.cgi?PID=6916). Since he apparently no longer visits AO, I have no idea what he has done with the marker since then.

When I purchased this marker from Mike Cintek (username Johnny Bravo) sometime in November 2002, it had Shocktech Emag valve EM01569. Yes "Shocktech" was laser engraved into the valve. It also came with the standard Emag board which read "Shocktech X.X" when booted up. It came with a matching 1-piece glued Dye Boomstick which was also pewter. It also only had the single ball detent and did NOT have Level X installed.

A month after receiving the marker, I sent it to AGD to have the ACE installed (first consumer Emag/Xmag/SFL to receive the ACE upgrade) and have Level X installed.

A few weeks after receiving the marker back from AGD, some newbie at the local field accidentally knocked my SFL off the table without the barrel attached. It landed on concrete and barrel area became slightly warped which did not allow a barrel to be screwed in. I then sent the marker for body repair to Doc's Machine (http://www.docsmachine.com) to see what he could do. The threads were undamaged so all Doc had to do was shaved off a millimeter of material in front of the threads to allow enough clearance for a barrel to be inserted again. This is obviously a way for this specific SFL to be identified even if the board and valve have been replaced. While the marker was with Doc, I also had him mill out the left side of the breach so I could install dual ball detents.

When the marker came back from Doc, all was well for about 8 months until the infamous "lake incident." Long story short, I was out on the dock with the SFL, got careless, and dropped it into the lake (murky water, maybe twenty feet down). Yes, I know all of you would have searched until it was found, but it was getting dark out and my lake had alligators in it. Before I found the SFL again, a total of around 50hrs had passed with it submerged (there's a thread somewhere on AO about it). Attesting to the durability of an Automag, the only irreparable damage was to the battery pack. The dried out board, solenoid, and valve were all completely fine.

Later that week, I shipped the marker to AGD for a checkup and to have my board flashed to the new software which contained shot buffering. When I received the marker back, the board no longer displayed "Shocktech X.X" it instead displayed "AGD X.X."

Shortly after, I became highly involved in the national tournament scene. I picked up a pewter 2003 Shocktech Intimidator and took the SFL's barrel and used it on the Intimidator since it matched perfectly.

In Febrary 2004, the marker was sold to AO member "Jonesie." It was sold with the original "Shocktech" valve, new shot buffering board, and a generic boomstick (NOT the matching barrel). I then traded the barrel away with the Shocktech Intimidator and have no way of locating it.

I'd be interested in reacquiring my SFL Emag if anyone knows where it is today. ;)

EDIT: I have some high-res pics of my old SFL which I will post if I find them.

rdb123: Great write up!! I remember the thread when the lake incident just happened. I actually was able to contact Jonesie and he had sold the SFL the same year he bought it (2004?) so as of now there are no leads to track this sfl down. If you have any more pictures feel free to post em up!!

Does the barrel area look like it has been shaved down? If so, please post some pictures as I would love to see how she is doing 7 years later. :)

I have the SFL emag bug again so I figured I can write down my discoveries over the past few years..... This thread isn't pretty, but it will do :D

I created the Archive for SFLs with the serial #'s and pictures that I have so far. Check it out if this kind of stuff interests you. It is alot better looking that the original thread.

http://www.automags.org/forums/content.php?61-shocktech-sfl-e-mag

1.) Finally found my unicorn!! EM01217 After years of searching, I was finally able to track down my favorite SFL. I stopped my journey looking for other SFLs in the wild after this one popped up.

http://www.automags.org/forums/content.php?585-Prototype-SFL-Emag-Story

95960

2.) Behind Door Sales: A handful of SFLs have traded hands over the years. Freedom sold his Germany "F" Stamp SFL through the Tunaball black market. Added EM01566 to the list. New serial number add to "the list"

http://www.automags.org/forums/content.php?703-Dust-Grey

95961

3.) Maxim E-mag: The team captain of Team Maxim posted this on Facebook a little while ago. I was able to talk with him, but he never sent me over the valve number... :(

http://www.automags.org/forums/content.php?718-Legendary-SFL-MaximMag

BigEvil, could you send me over that screenshot again?

4.) Found (2) SFL's at Living Legend 2017. I finally grabbed the serial numbers from these SFLs. Unfortunately, this is what happens with e-mag collecting. :(

Red: EM01599 "Brian Terry": http://www.automags.org/forums/content.php?713-Gloss-Red-3

Blue: EM01564 http://www.automags.org/forums/content.php?725-Gloss-Blue-3

95962

95963

I was able to get Caustic Customs match the battery pack for the Brian Terry SFL :D BigEvil did my breach mod :)

95964

5.) Original Colors: I found the original listing for SFL emags from www.buyshocktech.com (Archive.org link) (https://web.archive.org/web/20020829214511/http://www.buyshocktech.com:80/pages/shocktech/markers/sfl_emag.html) The SFL Emag came in (7) colors. Both in Polished and Bead finish. I believe silver was the best selling, while the gloss green was the lowest selling (not sure if we even found one yet).

95965

6.) I'm probably selling the Black/Silver Sponge with Red Splash sometime this year.

I will probably send this over to AGD and Ben Johnson Photography before I sell it. The triggernomics trigger will not be included. Luckily the new owner will have a few choices. I always went really nuts getting everything anodized to match.. lol

95966

7.) By the way, I have the original Shocktech Emag firmware if anyone wants to get rid of Xmod.

8.) Unknown SFLs on Facebook. The Silver SFLs are really hard to track. They sold the most, and it is really hard to idenitfy them in pictures. Here was a new image I stumbled upon

95970

Here is a nice pewter SFL. I always wanted to track down the legendary SFL that was dropped into a lake for 2 days. I'm not for certain since the breach has the original detent cover.

http://www.automags.org/forums/content.php?729-Water-Damage

95971

If you are on the chase for an SFL, I believe the owner is pretty active on Facebook.

9.) By the way, that ugly green one in the post above is a photoshop picture of a Gloss Purple SFL emag. The original gun has a gloss black battery top that they photoshopped.

95972

I think I messed up the gloss and dust purple on my Archive page. I will need to update sometime.

10.) Put your tin foil hats everyone!! SFL Theory time!!! I spoke with Tom at Living Legends 2017 about the SFL emags. Because of poor sales, Shocktech stopped buying the bodies so AGD stopped sending them over :D I didn't really think of it too much until I stumbled upon a few posts from the Shocktech Facebook page.

After purchasing the prototype SFL, I have the starting valve number for SFL emags. From EM01217 to EM01465 we have a couple SFL sprinkled with Euro Body (STD), and CNC bodies. After collecting data for years, I have 18 SFLs that fall in a sequential order. (Fun fact, every time I see an emag valve for sale, I hand enter it into my database. I still haven't found any that fall between the serial numbers below..)

95967

I have 12 SFLs that I still need the valve number for. I feel like most of them will fall into that list in the future. I always thought about the fact that there could be a box of SFL sitting around some where. In 2014, Shocktech found 2 "SFL Emag" Frames in their storage. The frames are nothing special. They are the ULE emag frames that came out around that time. After reviewing the pictures, it is interesting to note that they look more polished than usually.

95968

Four years later in January 2018, Shocktech finds some more important parts...

95969

They found (3) more "SFL Emag" Frames and you can start to notice the bead vs. polish finish on them. More importantly, there is (5) SFL Breaches. I was really late to this party so I have no idea if they actually sold any. I really hope we can get these breaches to SFL owners that need them. I know of a few custom SFL breaches (and a warp breach!!) out there, but it would be nice to get this original stock back in circulation. I would really like to get one for the SFL prototype since I don't want to ruin the originality of it. :D I just send over a facebook message to see if they have any left.

The number of grip frames now match the number of breaches that they had. I'm wondering if/when they will either find (5) SFL bodies or (5) Valves. My money is on the valves being found.

The information is starting to match up with my theories about the rest of the guns out there. From the very beginning I have always wondered how many were made. I feel like i'm really close of finding every single one. Having these mysterious parts show up will help me get to the mythical 40 number.

Hope you enjoyed the history lesson.

Another SFL Emag has been added to "the list". Gloss Red SFL EM01625 was posted on AO a few weeks ago. The sale thread came and went with less than 24 hours online.

I added it the SFL Emag AO Archives area (http://www.automags.org/forums/content.php?61-shocktech-sfl-e-mag)

They are still out there. I'm thinking there may be 50 out there after all.... :ninja:
