While someone who can answer that is at it, can you tell me how old RT01647 is?

How does one discern the age of the valve? Mine is vv04298 just out of curiosity... it's also a pewter.

Well for those valves we just went from the fact that it's one of the first thousand in the series, and so it was most likely made in the first year that the gun came out.

Cool... so does any one know what the two letters designate?

Well CF seems to be AIR valves and classics i'm pretty sure, and then there's RT which is what is on classic RTs, and then the rest are on different valves, and i don't know what each one stands for. I know VV or whatever is for an x-valve, though i don't know enough about them to tell you when yours was made.

That valve is about 1991. We only made about 1000 the first year.

Thats awesome. We (Groovy and I) had a guy show up this weekend with two guns he needed teched. I guess he hadnt played in a long time and wanted to pick it back up. One was an autococker, the second was a mag with that serial number. I went about trying to tech teh mag, but couldnt get it fully working. Still, after pulling apart the gun, and scraping off teh decade old paint and rust, it still held air just fine, and cycled, but was leaking down the barrel. As it always is, neither Groovy or myself had and spare classic parts with us. So Groovy now has it and will be fixing her up. Still, i was awed by the serial number, and pinned it in early 90s, both by the low number and teh fact that it just looked REALLY old. :p Glad to see we were right.

What year did emags come out again? I'm guessing yours if probably from that year. Was it 2000 that they came out? Agh, i can't remember.

Awesome! Thanks Tom!

Oh and it still works. All I've done to it was replace the ASA and turn down the velocity so it didn't vent out the back. All I need is a chronograph to make sure it can shoot at 285.

I think we need an age / serial thread, maybe a sticky. This question keeps getting asked over and over. If we get enough people to post their serials and the year they bought the gun we can get a pretty decent list going. For example, I'm the original owner of a 'Mag that I bought in 1995 and my serial is CF 323**.

i can post serials, but both of my mags are used. I bet a lot of other people on here are in the same boat, pretty much only the older guys will be able to give out that info.

Shouldn't AGD have this information somewhere? At least from when people register their guns for the warranty.

Does anyone have a real good idea of the rate at which classic RT's were made? I need to know I'm right when I tell them my gun is more than 10 years old. :D

That would put my 68Automag A.I.R. valve # CF00390 being made in 1990 then.

I think I'll keep it !

What about a classic valve that has NO NUMBER OR STARS at all on it??? Does that make it really really old??? Or just a rental??? I thought even rentals were numbered... just not star'd.

Rentals did have serial numbers on them, I just looked at on the other day in the 15,xxx range that had "FIELD RENTAL" engraved on it. I didn't notice any stars though...

If it has the Automag logo burned into it then its stolen and the numbers were polished off. If it has no engraving then its a prototype valve or all the engraving was polished off.

or JusticeGuy you could say your valve is CFM0014, either way, I think the CFM sounds cooler, but its still not real old, probably 8 years just going by when it was bought origionally.

UH OH!!!! I've got hot goods... It does have the Automag Classic burned into it on the left side. Just nothing on the right side where the numbers should be. I'll look at it real close tonight to see if I can tell if it's been polished off or not.

So by stolen you mean from AGD??? Or just stolen from someone and then polished off so there is no way that it can be proven who's it was. Like a private party stolen one. I'm thinking the latter, but I don't know if AGD actually has a database of where the numbers actually got shipped to or not.

That would be another incredible task to take up. Find out where each valve was sent originally to see where it is now.

Thanx TK!!!
