i got a barrel with my most recently bought automag and i wanna know what kind it is and how much its worth.
its like regular aluminum on the outside but on the inside where the ball travels is brass.
so brass barrel, inside aluminum. its also rifled if that helps.

Wow.

Never seen anything like that for a Mag before...

It really resembles the barrels made for the Montneel Icons, but those weren't rifled.

How does it shoot?

Armson is the only one I know that made rifled mag barrels, but it doesnt look like an Armson
on the exterior, and the ones I've seen are all aluminum.

Back in the day, J&J used to do semi custom applications. That very well could be an armson with a sleeve over it possibly done by them.

I know BOA had Nickel plating over brass Barrels. best ask Doc or Palmer's. They might know more about it than anyone

the thing looks like its a 2 piece, See if it doesnt screw apart. Maybe the internal piece has some sort of labeling.

Definitely NOT an Armson - the Armson tubes were polygon rifled, rather than groove rifled. I seem to recall, back in the day, there was some company doing something similar to Armson, but they never gained popularity. Forget their name... I think PTP had some legal words with them about their product, how similar it was to the Armson, and how their ads were essentially a carbon copy.

The other thing that comes to mind is, as mentioned above, some of the early J&J barrels.

only thing i saw in jnj's was the straight rifling, did they do something different?

werent the stock 68 barrels from mags like that back in the day/ Without the brass insert tho? I have one somewhere that I got with my first 68 I think...it was either that or the crown point and I got that one...

Maybe the guys over at M Carter Brown could help you out on this one...most of then suffer from Brass poisoning :D

Made of Brass and has those little rail/rifle type things in it. It is most likely J&J. A very old one too. Good luck.

The J&J's don't have the aluminum outer and the twist is too much, coarse for J&J too.

Could it have been a creation from Glenn over at Palmer's. I thought he used to or was doing some mag barrels? Looks like something that might have come out of there but I thought his were all brass with black powedrcoat. Hmm, interesting.

Could this not be an old hammerhead mag barrel?

That's the one I'm thinking of, but they don't have the brass insert. I've got two right here that don't have it from my first mags.

Right next to my crown points lol

To me I would say that the rifling is a custom job. The barrel itself is likely a Palmer or J&J. Good luck on getting it identified exactly.
