View Full Version : Anyone ever see an Aurora Karta?

VeeWee
08-01-2008, 10:41 PM
I took the plunge last winter and sent my Karta Emag to ODDPB when they offered the Aurora finish and before anyone asks I didn't spend $2k. ODD did an amazing job, it looks like a multi-hued mirror, just awesome.

I'm not done yet, I have a Tuna Blade and a Logic Fireblade that need to get annodized. I also want to get a selector switch from Luke, change the LED to green and new grip panels, maybe some exotic wood grips from Kruger. I'm thinking about getting something laser engraved on the valve too.

On to the show, I hope you enjoy....

Incredible. Thank you for not wasting your money on a Karta with holes.

Was the 2K for just what is shown? Or did you get an aftermarket feedneck and rail/asa done too?

That's an absolutely stunning marker, thanks for sharing. :hail:

read the title, and the last thought i had was pictures of an Aurora Karta, and instead a question about where to get one, blah blah blah. saw the pictures and my jaw dropped. that gun is absolutely stunning! the black and aurora goes so well together oppose to the other guns done by ODD where i think the aurora is just over done. this is simply amazing  :hail:

You must have missed the aurora euro xmag that was floating around here when they first came out :)

I liked it, not many people did. This karta mag is beautiful though.

Just beautiful...

Any reason why you went with the stock feed? Def keep the theme of black offsets when you go with new grips... as previously they provide amazing contrast.

Classy and flashy in the same breath... well I never.

Wow, very tasteful, not overdone at all. The marker has just enough lines to make the Aurora finish show up nicely without making it look like complicated mess, and the black parts provide just the right amount of contrast. Very nice.

The stock feedneck has nice lines. Hoppers can be sanded to fit? It looks hot.

VeeWee
08-02-2008, 03:51 PM
Thank you for the compliments everyone!

Here is an explanation for how the Karta ended up the way it is....

ODD originally offered a special 1 of 5 for $2k, I guess they didn't fill that order because they later offered fixed price packages for different part counts. I was in the 6-8 part category which was much less than the special $2k complete gun package. My part count was eight and to go over that was a big jump in price.

My original plan with the feedneck was to get an aftermarket clamping feedneck and have the main part done in Aurora and leave the clamp black. Due to a very busy schedule last winter I dropped the ball and never got around to ordering one so I sent ODD the stock feedneck. I could've sent the barrel back instead but I like the break in the middle with the black.

I asked about the Xvalve, Lorne at ODD wasn't sure if it could be but was willing to take a look at it, I decided that eight parts was my limit and I wasn't about to sacrifice a $200 valve so I didn't send it. I think the plain black "X" valve looks pretty cool and leave plenty of room to get something laser engraved on it if I choose to later.

The one thing that I didn't like about the Aurora markers already out there was that the whole gun, everything, was Aurora finished. Too much of a good thing in my opinion so the black accents were definately intended.

My only regret is my own fault, the feedneck, but when I swap it out and put a plan black clamping feedneck on I don't think it'll look out of place, we'll see.

...and thats the rest of the story.

Thanks again!

That would more fair to call oil slick because it is not truly an Aurora. It is incredible looking there is no doubt. I too question the decision to stick with a stock feed, but it does look really nice aside from possible better function with a different type.

Dude, the stock feedneck looks Friggin Awesome!

The flames with the aurora kick butt and I think its a BETTER looking choice than an aftermarket feedneck!

I normally don't like shiny , but shiny LOOKS GOOD on Karta's ( mine are shiny black )
This Karta looks awsome & the black sets it off great , the black may even look better if it were Matte ( make the shiney, more shiny )

Not sure where you got your info from but I was told by Lorne at ODDpb that this is the same electro-plating process used by Eclipse just perfected by a guy named Cutstep on PbNation for ODDpb.

The finish is supposed to be more durable than annodizing so normal play should have no effect on the it. Diving into a bunker won't be an issue because I don't :p !

I understood that the process that was originally used by PE was not electro plating, but was actually almost a "burning" of the aluminum by running a high amount of voltage through it. I think there is a thread on here somewhere about it, but that one of the drawbacks of the original procedure was that it was commonly destructive and ended up ruining many of the bodies it was attempted on. One of, if not the reason that PE quit doing it.
There have been several attempts at a similar process. I remember one guy talking about his "figuring" it out, but that it turned out to flake quite a bit. Might even be the same guy who has found a better way. But simply by the nature of it being a plating, or anno process it is not the same. It looks great, the effect is just as stunning.

I'm looking forward to the day you enter MOTM.

This is what I picture happening...

You enter the gun as the FIRST open class entry.

The days go by until the last day.

And NO ONE else enters a marker.

You win uncontested!!!!!

You'd really piss some people off if you waited till the last day of entries.

Why the stock feedneck?

I think an RGP feednack would look a bit nicer if you just got the ring done.

The process Eclipse used on the old Aurora cockers was called "spectrum physical vapor disposition". It is a method of plating that requires between 20k and 40k volts to pass through the piece. The high voltage led to high failure rates.

And that is one beautiful mag, best one I've seen yet....I was planning on doing the aurora finish with my new mag project...but looks like you beat me to it....gggaaahhh :cuss: :D

cyrus-the-virus: I would message cutstep on pbnation. He was the main person in charge of the aurora service. I spoke with him for a while about a project of mine and if I remember correctly they are trying to finish up the latest batch of guns before they do anymore. Also, look for a high price I don't think they will do many small part batches anytime soon. Good luck.

VeeWee: Great looking marker. Hope you enjoy it!!!!

I have to agree with whoever said they were glad you didn't waste such a beautiful setup on a Karta Rail with holes. I love my holeless Karta Rail, I wouldn't trade it for anything else. I work really hard to see to it that I could get the holeless rail I wanted.

I can't wait till I have my Pneumag anodized. Though I'm days away from dropping 500 dollars on a virtually new '06 Cyborg, plus a few extra parts so I guess the Pneumag will be raw for a few more months!

Truly unique setup. It's perhaps the only aurora automag in existance. At least that I'm aware of.

Everything syncs up very well, and while i used to think that aurora finished looks dumb on the dye guns, it looks excellent on an e-mag, especially the karta!

I actually started with a three-hole rail Karta Emag but I came across this no-hole body and rail that was setup as a mechanical mag last fall.

Some posts mention an Xmag would look better, I tried to buy one last winter. I missed out on a few that went for less than a $1000 that would've been perfect candidates, there were more for sale but I didn't want pay more than $1000 considering I already had this Karta Emag setup ready to go.

the dw body kit shouts @ any one that walk by not to mention you really don't notice the battery box out front due to it being the same color

now on to the nit picking how are you suppose to fire the gun there ain't no trigger in here second imo there is not enough yellow in there for my preference but hall of an anno

as far as setting a price
tk (agd) said he'd add it to his collection thats enough to say it's not for sale you got his approval that is payment enough for me

???? what is it worth to tk (agd) thats your selling point huh????
