Spider-TW

So I bought this on ebay, with only this picture and a thin description of "X-mag", "easy on paint", "pewter" and "works fine". From the pick you can see the velocity adjuster of an RT or X type valve, so I figured the parts were worth it. I was actually looking for a ULT at the time. I'm always asking to see what kind of "goodies" people end up with, so I figured I would share.

The barrel turned out to be a J&J edge .691 back with some torn chrome spots and a few bore pits (after I cleaned the paint out).
What I thought was Dow 55 caked on the bolt was just gray fill from some paint. It was between the body and rail and between the rail and frame. It had been chopping pretty badly.

But I did get lucky, it has an X-valve with Level 10 (not always a given) and a ULT...
<a href="http://s237.photobucket.com/albums/ff138/Spider-TW/?action=view¤t=S5000364.jpg" ><img src="http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff138/Spider-TW/S5000364.jpg" border="0" width="600" height="450"></a>
That is not all paint on the bolt spring. It's paint and corrosion. It was pretty beat down anyway; it went into the trash. Most of the orings are fair looking, but the power tube oring was hard and the carrier was way too tight. When I pulled it out, there were two shims on top of the carrier and one shim under the carrier, on top of the backing washer. :tard: The reg piston was major sticky too.
As I cleaned it up looking at the various tool marks on the air fittings, the body, rail and frame were all pretty smooth. Then I noticed the rail was unusually light colored, but that happens some time. Then I noticed the "pewter" body is not the funny blue color at all...
<a href="http://s237.photobucket.com/albums/ff138/Spider-TW/?action=view¤t=S5000362.jpg" ><img src="http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff138/Spider-TW/S5000362.jpg" border="0" width="600" height="450"></a>
Then I notice the home drill and zinc plated screws holding the grip on...
<a href="http://s237.photobucket.com/albums/ff138/Spider-TW/?action=view¤t=S5000368.jpg" ><img src="http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff138/Spider-TW/S5000368.jpg" border="0" width="600" height="450"></a>
So, I'm thinking the body and rail have been baked by some PBNer up the road. Here's my pewter pneu mag against it...

You can see the body is kind of brown, which is what blue anno usually turns to when baked. The rail may be factory light, but black usually turns blue gray when baked from the pictures I've seen.
Anyway, zinc screws are gone (they had started corroding), Level 10 is back in order, and I have a whole marker to try my ULT out on. I might just swap the real pewter body on there to match the rail, now that I see them together. :p
