a powered subwoofer home unit. I blew the old 12" JBL speaker and I need a good replacement. Its a 300W amp (500 max) / 60 ohms. I always forget how the ohmage works. We watch a lot of movies and play our music fairly loud so we want something that wont crap out on us again.

Thanks in advance.

There is actually a place in Florida that rebuilds and makes replacement speakers for JBL that is factory authorized. I will try to find their card. I have info for them to re-foam the subs in my L-80-T's.
Considering the quality of their higher end speakers, and the fact that distortion is generally what blows speakers anyway, my thoughts would be that either you find a higher wattage sub, or purchase another one to work with what you have.

If you decide that replacing the speaker is what you want to do, measure the box to find its area, measure the port size and go to any better audio shop and you should be able to find a suitable replacement. I know that several years ago JL Audio made a spectacular sub, but they are generally for auto applications and I am unsure whether you would find one in the proper impedence. Cerwin Vega has also been legendary for superb woofers.

are you sure on the 60 ohms? That sounds kinda high for a sub impedance. I would be more inclined to believe 6 ohms

Oops, youre right I was looking at the Hz for the amp. :tard: The speaker hasnt been in the box for a long time so I dont have it for reference. I looked around but couldnt find what the specs for the actual speaker were.

I would imagine that this (http://www.buy.com/prod/venue-sub-12-powered-subwoofer-with-amplifier-woofer-300w-rms-500w/q/loc/111/202738511.html) is your sub. It has all the tech specs on that page. You should be able to find a substitute speaker fairly readily.

Thats similar. Mine is downward firing but the cabinet looks about the same size. I dont want a stock replacement speaker though. I blew the last one so I want something a little tougher.
