I recently found these pics on an old website of mine that broght back alot of memories. I got into paintball back in '96 and most of us got the "Top of the Line" Kmart Stingrays.. hey I upgraded mine with a VL200 and 9oz tank! Within a few months I ordered VM-68 and before long, I had my first mag. I think there was 8 of us in the begining and we needed to find a close place to play (none of us was 16 and couldn't drive to a field). So we found a nice spot in the woods and built our own little field. It was a small little speedball course but the biggest game we had there was 4 on 4 so it served us well. They used to all make fun of me cause I would always take pictures of everything.. and now I am so glad that I did that. Photos sure do enhance the memory lol. This field is long gone now. We stoped playing there in '97 or '98 when we started playing at a bigger rental field and other people ended up destorying most of those bunkers. These pictures are the memory of my first paintball games with my closest friends growing up, those memories are priceless to me. I am sure all you other guys on here have the same memories of the first place you ever played this game. If you got pictures, share them with us.

That looks like it was a fun place to play, I remember the outlaw field I use to play on a few years ago, I wish we took some pictures because those were some good times.

I think that I might have to go back to my first homegrown field. Hell it's only about 5 miles from where I live right now. Crazy to look back on it isn't it? I remember my brother and I hanging out in my step-fathers music shop listening to he and his buddy talk about playing paintball at Adventure Games. Soon we were practically begging to go play somewhere... so instead of bringing us to a field he went out and bought 20 stingray 2's and 5 tigershark pumps (all probably worse then the kmart specials). He organized our family and some other very close friends/families together Man, we played every weekend for about 2 years when school was out! He'd rent the guns and masks for like $5 and sell paint at cost. just to make back the money that he spent on the equipment. We'd generally net around 8-14 people... sometimes more and sometimes less. We'd meet on Sunday's and play from 10am until you couldn't see any more. I remember the field quite well though I don't have any pictures at hand, but I do have them somewhere.

How about your rules? My step-father never allowed headshots. I always disagreed but there was a fun side to it. If you shot someone in the head 3 times during the day then you would have to "run the gauntlet" Running the gauntlet was a pretty simple task. A small dirt road bordered our field. He would line up all the players that day across the road, top off their hoppers and then walk you down the road 10 paces. You had to then run across the road twice while everyone pumped you full of paint. There were also catches to this. The other players couldn't start shooting until you hit the dirt. I used to always get at least one DQ'ed because I would run to the edge and stop short. Why did I run the gauntlet so often you might ask? I always volunteered to demonstrate for the players that were in trouble! Funny thing is, that after doing this a few times you learned that you could make it almost every time without getting shot! I have a picture of this somewhere too.

Hell... my wife and my brother in law were amongst the first people to play with us.... this was in the summer of 1996. Boy... 12 years sure seems like a lot huh!

We're looking to start a small home grown (family) field here pretty soon. We love our local field so much that my wife and I both have season passes... but there's still something missing. Maybe it was the home grown games... the crazy rules... or no worries of cheating. I remember that we would designate a ref, but it was pretty much only for paint checks on the back and such... gennerally the designated "ref" only helped to fix gun jams on field. Maybe... maybe it's because in those 2 years of playing EVERY weekend I probably played more paintball then I have in the 10 years that followed. Hell, I think I only played 7 or 8 days this year... but three of those were scenarios.

Here's to paintball

Those definately were the days. I used to play with a bunch of family friends in Barrington growing up (after you went to Brewster (Chafnerjr). Those outlaw games where anything goes were amongst the best days of my life. Hey Chris, BTW I am taking the plunge... I bought a ring last night and am asking her to marry me. :wow: But those few days playing paintball turned into many many days and weekends ongoing for the last 12 or so years. Such good times. I made every scenario at OSG this year and love the atmosphere of being there. But like you said, there is something missing, perhaps the charm of renegade ball... All in all, it is always a good time.

 Here's to looking forward to playing again soon Chafnerjr. Next time I see you, I will get your address for the wedding/reception invitation.

 to memories past, present and future ones being made.
