Since we don't see many splashed classic RT's, i thought I would share this one with you guys.

After my protein exam this morning, i went home to to discover the mailman knocking on my door with a nice big box in his hands. A red splashed barrel was poking through the box. I thought to myself "that's can't be a good start". So i go inside and can't wait to open it to have a look at it's condition. With the barrel sticking out, i thought to myself that it would be in crappy shape. And wouldn't you know it, it was the dirtiest marker I ever laid eyes on. It did look in good physical shape though, and the barrel wasn't damaged from the shipping. There are some marks on the barrel, but are hidden by the shroud.

I had planned on cleaning it anyways, used markers usually need a good clean when it gets a new home. But never to that extent. So i start a movie and start cleaning the darn thing....then another one because i wasn't finished. It took a total of 4 hours of scrubbing, dipping, greasing, lubing and a lot of paper towels to build it back up to it's original glory.

I noticed the the previous owner had never even took it apart. The inside of the rail is completely mint. Believe it or not, the outside is almost mint as well! The thing that isn't in good shape is the bolt and sear. Those have been worn pretty badly.

Now for the unveiling of this little gem!

That isn't the flash. It's paint breaking down in hot water.

After 4 hours and still have some work left:

I have to admit that it is a fine, uncommon specimen. The barrel has dual wire nubbins. Is that normal on classics? I heard only 100 were made of each color, is that true? I hope you enjoyed!!!

Those pics of the bolt and the barrel made me cringe... :nono:

Overall, nice find though... when do you plan on testing it out?

I am getting air this week. I aired it with CO2 (I know!) to check where it would leak from. The banjo bolt needed to be tightenned harder than what i thought. After fooling arround with the banjo, i was able to manage a shot without a leak. I have no doubt that it will come alive with HPA and a few drops of oil.

I might change bolts. But for the sear, i'm hoping that it'll hold. We will see what it needs after being aired...correctly.

You did a great job cleaning that thing up. Also, I haven't seen many pics around of a red splash kit and black body. Looks good! :)

whats funny is my splashed z grip looked almost as bad when I received it.

It took me a lot of hot water and an old toothbrush to clean her up.

I don't understand how people treat their gear that way.

On a plus note. Once I was done cleaning her up I aired her up. No leaks!!

Nice find!!!

I don't understand that either. Out of about 20 markers, 2 have been like that. Luckily, this one was just dirty and not damaged. I wasn't as lucky with the other one. I'm very miticulas about the condition and quality of my equipement. Even though 4 hours of cleaning was a long time, i still enjoyed every minute of it. The feeling of tinkering with something new is half the fun.

Very nice.

Is that a new or old style power feed plug? It looks short and round (old), but its hard to tell with the 'antique patina'.

That is fantastic! Reminds me of when I was fixing up my RT. It wasn't as filthy as that one, but it had some major mechanical problems aside from some stripped screws and dried-on-turning-into-tarnish paint on the rail. I took the paint off but could rescue the twist-lock pin 100%. It is clean, but still discolored.

Now she shoots like a champ :shooting:

Yours... I wouldn't want to touch it with my bare hands :wow:

Came out great though, looks like a diamond in the rough :headbang:

BTW, mine has dual wire nubbins as well. As far as I know all of the "new" crown point barrels have the dual nubbins.

That reminds me of how dirty my trracer was when I got it. It didnt have quite as much paint on it as your rt, but when I took of the gripframe there was a dead wasp inside it! I have no idea how it even got in there. Nice find, always good to see a mag put into the hands of someone that will respect it.

It's an old style.
That explains a lot of the paint in the marker.

Looks pretty now!

great cleaning job on this one, it always makes me sad to see a marker dirty like that, even more when it's a mag, they deserve better than that, at least now he's in good hands.
