we have one of those exact machines at school. Its uses *.stl solid model files, then builds it up.
If you want anything built it runs $30 per cubic inch.
two semesters ago we used it to make the cores for some 'mud flap girl' belt buckles we cast out of bronze.

That smaller scanner that Mark picks up called the "3D Scanner" is $3,000!
Thats pretty damn cheap concidering its a plug-n-play scanner that is 100% integrated with Solid Works 2004 and up.
I got to see this thing work in my college,... its amazing. I think it was 10 minutes and it had done a AGD frame I had in my bag.
By far the fastest way to clone something!

Rapid prototyping machines are the bomb....
Nice to see more companies getting into the RP business and developing new technology....didnt even know a desktop scanner like that existed. Me wants...along with the FDM prototyper, well the powder and laser/resin based prototype machine are very enticing as well.

I actually had my "Viper Frame" done with this RP machine, but in a company in state here.
Turn around time was 2 days. I had it on the third.
It helps you really see where you need to improve your design!
