Bike grip, in more ways than one...

Quite literally, a bike grip.

I was doing some spring cleaning on my K2 today because it was the first nice day since... all winter, and I noticed that the grips had a bit of a tear in the end.

So I picked up some new, Specialized bike grips and plan to put them on.

But with the old ones off I tried something.

The one on top is the old grip, the black and grey one is the Specialized grip.

I got my trusty pocketknife and bench-grinder, both of which I don't leave the house without :D , and got to work.

Here's the result:

It actually is quite nice, it feels like the same rubber that is used to make the Dye Sticky 3 grips, which are also on my RT.

It also has a very subtle diamond patter so in addition to being soft and "sticky", they also make good friction contact.

I've often thought of doing this kind of thing. There are some cool bike grips out there that would really go good on guns.

Yeah, I'm happy with it.

It's a very light black, almost grey, which doesn't exactly match the restof the gun...
But given that the gun is about 5 shades of black as it is I don't care :rolleyes:

i put a "Schwinn" bike grip on my mag, and it looks just fine.....i dont have the gas-thru, so i just forced it up and it works.......thegrayghost......

i've been thinking of doing something similar. is there a trick to getting the original grip surface off of there in one piece, or am i going to have to slice the thing up? i want to avoid doing that if i can.

There is a lip at the top of the shaft that the finger-grooves grip bites into.

If you do it carefully as not to screw up the anno, you can pry the grip out of the lip and then it should slide straight down off of the shaft.

The "bike-grip" or any other grip should just slide on/off.
