I picked up my first phantom a few weeks ago. I know nothing about these guns, and nobody around my local field would know anymore. Just shooting it around my house, i can tell there is a huge difference in consistency in the velocity. I asked the guy i bought it from and he said it was probably the main spring. What do y'all think?

Might be the spring, bur more probably a marker full of dirt. Take it apart, clean and lube. Take care not to loose anything and check the exploded diagram here:

Another thing that i just thought of is that the cup seal can unscrew itself or even worse the power tube can snap off just where it screws into the cup seal. Open the valve assy and check.
(Cup seal is no10 on the exploded diagram)

Good luck.

More likely than anything else: inconsistent paint.

No, its 3 week old paint. Sometimes the paint will go about as far as it should. Other times it will go 25 feet. I can tell a differance when i dry fire the gun.

Co2 doesn't suck that bad, and shootdown with a pump? Probably not.

If you want help from the best, check The Phantom Owners Group (The PhOG) here:

Check the little nylon screw in the bolt, u might have to adjust it, but that helps w/ velocity and efficiency... Be careful though, they love to strip.

Ok, if it's that bad, there's more involved. Make sure the tpc (center part of the bolt) is in place and not screwed in past the threads.
