Do you mean the Aero? It's a british made car, but it's open top, and it's basically an old open wheeled roadster.

Ariel Atom.

However, given how distinctive it is, it's hard not to remember.

You know, you do need to be a little more specific. If all we have to go on is "Small British car that goes fast," the list is pretty endless. ;)

The first car that came to mind for me was the McLaren F1, the fastest mass-produced car in history. It's pretty tiny, and it's a center-seater. If only a had a million dollars to buy one.

I think you misspelled "Bugatti Veyron"

Edit- Yes, I know about the SSC, but it's recent and doesn't really roll off the tongue.

Thats it thanks. Given that the last time I saw it was like 1.5 years ago, I'm not surprised that I dont remember it.

And yes I should have been more descriptive than "small british car"

Aha... so the McLaren isn't the fastest production car anymore. I stand corrected.

You know, in my mind, I still think the McLaren is the better car.

I think you are thinking of the Caterham.

Depending on the model 0-60 is from 6.5 to 2.88 seconds. there is a big difference in price from 13k GBP to 38k GBP.

I used to have a 1971 MGB with a 1.8l v4 that (when it was in good working order) did 0-60 in 7.5 seconds... Factory specs said it shoulda been more like 12 or 13 but I clocked it up in Laconia at just that. It weighed well under a ton, too... 1900 factory, I was running it at 1650. So theres a tiny British car that can really "do stuff" at the track; a bit dated though :) Anything under 8 is pretty snazzy in my book; I currently drive a 'vette that makes it in 7.2, but that's with a throttlebody inject 350 V8 pushing 240 horsies (it weighs in at over 3,500 lb; it's stuffed with power windows and seats and other unnecessary junk).

Anyway, were you thinking of the Mosler Photon (mt series)? It's technically British, though some are produced in the US, and it does 0-60 in 3.1 seconds, which outdoes the Mclaren F1 and the newer Lambo Murcielago by like 0.4 and 0.6 respectively (I have a rough memory of this from Road & Track). It's small, but not that small.

The only other small British supercar car I can think of is the Cartham 7 , which I know for a fact clocks in at an impressive (but not recordbreaking) 4.0, but it's not a production vehicle yet and is basically just a Lotus 7 with a suped-up engine/drivetrain and some fancy bodywork.

Anyway, hope that helps. Feel free to fact-check; I don't have a great memory but it's pretty damned good (IMHO) and I think the times are close to, if not perfectly, accurate.

P.S.

I think you misspelled "Bugatti Veyron"
That beasty does 0-60 in something like 2 seconds flat, but she ain't pretty and she ain't small.

I don't have to wear a helmet. Which means my epiglottis is full of bees.

This car has replaced the Super 7 as my daily driver dreamcar. Thanks AO and bentothejam1n for bringing this to my attention!
