View Full Version : What glue should I use for the Foamy?

So I have a lvl 10 bolt and the foamy needed replacement a few days ago. I removed the old foamy, used a screw driver and some goo-gone and alcohol to remove the old glue, and then tried to use loctite brand super glue to attach a new foamy. However, after I let it dry for a few hours, the foamy just flew out of the barrel after a couple shots. I tried this same procedure 3 times and I cannot get the foamy to stick, and I have wasted 2 foamys doing this.

So my question; what glue do you guys use?

I've been lucky so far with Krazy Glue.

I have tried krazy glue, but I think it's just too brittle.

Right now, I am using a foamie that had some sort of adhesive already on the back, and so far that seems to be working the best.

I think your best bet might be to use some sort of strong rubber cement that will give a little but without breaking the way Krazy glue tends to. First, use acetone to remove the old glue from the bolt (soak the tip of the bolt in it for a while), then rinse and dry the bolt before using the cement.

I have heard good things about gorilla glue

Only problem with that is it takes forever to dry.

I'd use JBWeld :tard:

Only if you want to make the foamy permanent though

Perhaps some kind of spray adhesive? I seem to have good luck with that kind of stuff.

last time I replaced a foamy I used 5min epoxy worked great and it's still there to this day as far as I know. I prepped the tip by just cleaning it with isopropal first.

Ok thanks guys for the replies. I'm gonna try some rubber cement following an acetone prep next... we'll see how that goes.

5 minute epoxy works good, but you must let it dry overnight

IC2000, it's a rubberized CA glue.

EASY! do use KRAZY glue, but make sure you buy the ANTI shock glue, its thicker and holds much better! iv put a few on with it for others and they are all still intact after thousands of rounds.

You could leave it off too. Mine went bye bye shortly after installing it, and I left it off. Over 15 cases of paint went through that set-up without a problem. No foamie for the win....lol.

Well the rubber cement was a failure. The foamy came out of the barrel on the first shot...

next up is crazy glue. Believe me too guys, I'm making sure my bolt is sparkling clean with NO glue residue on it before I apply glue to it. I'm just getting frustrated...

don't bother with the super glue it won't hold for more then a dozen shots at best. epoxy is what you need... although shoe goo may work as well ;)

I tried Gorilla Glue and it didn't hold up too well. After about two dozen shots it flew off.

I use Loctite SuperGlue Gel. As long as you clean the surface of the bolt it holds fine.

I use this stuff.

Got it at Walmart. The foamie on my classic has lasted three years.

My superglue has lasted for years, but it isn't recommended because it eats the neoprene. Any good quality epoxy will work as long as its rated for bonding with metal and with rubber. It must also have some durability because of the shock it will endure over its lifetime.

as long as you get the "anti-shock" super glue it will work just fine

I've been running without a foamy for about a year no breaks yet

Loctite instant-mix 1-minute epoxy. I use a metal o-ring pick to pull & chip away the old glue. I put just a little of the epoxy on a piece of cardboard (I don't use the applicator tips), mix up with a toothpick and apply to bolt & foamy. It dries within a hundred seconds. Same stuff just dries a lot faster & more expensive than the 5 minute epoxys. Lowes, Home Depot & Target all sell it. Only comes in .47oz for about $3-4usd.
