Only place I've played in the area was Challenge Park, and that was for Shatnerball. But they did seem to have some interesting fields.

Are you actually going to be in Chicago, one of the neighboring suburbs, other?

There are quiet a few fields in the area, really depending on what you want to do.

CPX (http://www.cpxsports.com/index.asp) -- is pretty much one of a kind, and all kinds of people play out there.

The Badlandz (http://www.thebadlandz.com) -- Good people, use to be primarily aimed at speedball/tournies, but they also do brisk walk on business as well. I've only been out there for practices or special events, so I can't say too much about the walk on experience.

Chicagoland Paintball (http://www.chicagoland-paintball.com/) -- Indoor, one airball field that changes up fairly regularly.

Fox Paintball (http://www.foxpaintball.com/) -- I haven't been out there yet, but I have heard good things.

Those really are the big four within an hour or so of Chicago.

Im in Des Plaines but Im willing to drive a distance for a good field.

Id prefer a field that doesn't have teams practicing all the time, I want to have some fun not become target practice.

A place with mag rentals would be ideal but not required.

Somewhere that isn't full of kiddies that were dropped off for daycare.

Does anyone know if Fox still uses automag rentals? It's a cool field, but I haven't been there in a while. It will be a good hike from Des Plaines. CPX might be a better option. It's closer to a major expressway. CPX uses Tippman 98's.

I haven't been to Fox in years, but between the other 3, Badlandz will be the cheapest. They have been having entry+case for $50 pretty regularly. Sign up for their emails. They send about 600 per week, but you will generally get some coupons. Last I remember, they rent piranhas. Expect to get A LOT of games in there. I would say that you will find a higher caliber player that at CPX.

CPX has fantastic fields. As mentioned above, there is a pretty good range of skill levels there. You can get an OK number of games in if you like to play their 2 signature fields (which are great fields). Games out to their other fields don't occur remotely often enough.

I have played Chicagoland PB a few times; usually after work with a semi-private group. I can't speak to the walk on crowd there. It is nice, but indoor, which I do not prefer.

Unfortunately, I will be out of town the first week of August. Otherwise I would meet up with you somewhere.

was just at fox

they still got classic 68 mags, and they just got some A5s in as well.

Mags are well maintained and taken care of, just make sure you chrono them, ive had a few that were well under the 280fps speed limit. tHey'll adjust em too, so no worries.

I play primarily at fox, mainly because it's closer than Badlands and cheaper than CPX.

also they are BYOP or field paint is reasonable cost.

If you're willing to go as far south as CPX, you might want to go a little further and check out Realms of Ruin (this was the original Challenge Park/CPX). It's $10 to get in, another $10 if you need to rent...I think they use 98's as rentals. Paint is cheaper than CPX at $70/case instead of $90. I haven't been there since they changed ownership, but I have nothing but good memories of playing those fields. I was thinking of either going there or CPX this weekend myself.

If you are willing to drive a little further into wis, there is a field owned by a chicago paintball store (discountpaintball.com) the field is called break away paintball. It used to be paintball sams and was bought out, I'd suggest giving it a shot!
